Ash: (sheepishly) Why do we have to get up so early anyway? Gary: Why do you always have to complain? Sheesh, live with it already! Ash: Well, I’m not used to waking up before eight. Gary: Started getting used to it, then. Our first class is at eight every day. Pikachu pushes the door open, and comes running into the room. Ash: Pikachu! I told you never to go into the halls without me! Pikachu: Pika pi! [Sorry!] Ash reaches into his closet and pulls out a can of Poké-Chow. Ash: Now, you’ll eat a can now and then I’ll come back at lunch time to feed you again. Pikachu: Pika! [OK!] Gary: Well, if you’re planning to leave your Pokémon out, I might as well too. Ash: Huh? Gary fishes his Pokéball out of his closet and throws it on the floor. A small Eevee comes out of it. Eevee: Vee! [Hi!] Ash: Hey! Since when did you have an Eevee? Gary: Do I have to tell you all of my secrets, Ash? We still are rivals, you know. Ash: I know that! Gary: Anyway, Pikachu can share with Eevee for breakfast. Ash: Why doesn’t Eevee eat his own? Gary: Because I haven’t gotten time to go to the Poké-Mart and buy some, that’s why! Ash: Okay, okay, you don’t have to yell. Gary: (to Eevee) Now Eevee, you be nice to Ash’s Pikachu. Ash: (to Pikachu) Pikachu, I don’t want the room in shambles when I get back. Eevee: Vee vee! [Don’t worry!] Pikachu: Chu chu pika pika! [You can count on us!] Ash: Okay then, you two have a nice day! Ash and Gary walk out, locking the door behind them. Pikachu then pulls out a pack of playing cards and shows them to Eevee. Pikachu: Chu, pika pika pi pichu? [Hey, ever played go fish?] Eevee: Vee. [No.] Pikachu: Pika pika! Pi pikachu pika! [It’s easy! Let me show you!] ************************************************************************ 8:00 a.m., Main Classroom Building All of the freshmen are gathering in the multi-purpose room to receive their schedules and their locker combinations. Soon, they are all dismissed and sent to check if their lockers work. The halls turn out to be very hard to pass through, as soon the freshmen are surrounded by sophomores, juniors, and seniors, all attempting to check their lockers as well. Ash, of course, is having trouble opening his. Ash: (pulling on the handle) Crud! This stupid thing won’t open! Female Voice: Here, let me help you with that. Ash turns around to see the blonde-haired member of the Sensational Sisters, Daisy. She is wearing a yellow shirt and a small matching colored skirt. Daisy: It opens like this. She pulls the handle up gently, and the locker opens. Ash: Wow, thanks a lot. Daisy: Like, no problem. Well, see you later. Ash: (stopping Daisy) Wait, haven’t I seen you somewhere before? Daisy: I don’t think so. Ash dug deep into his mind. He remembers his battle in Cerulean City. Implanted in his mind are the figures of the Sensational Sisters... three beautiful girls and a runt. He also remembers how hard that battle was. Anyway, his memory finally found what it was looking for... Ash remembered what her name was. Ash: That’s right! You’re Daisy Waterflower! Daisy: That voice... you’re Ash Ketchum, aren’t you? Ash: Yep. And boy, am I glad to see you. I can’t believe we’re classmates! Ash begin to look over Daisy’s figure. It had been several summers since he had been in Cerulean, and he had forgotten just how beautiful she... or her other sisters, for that matter... were. Daisy: Actually, small fry, I’m a senior, and I’m graduating at the end of the year. Ash: A senior? Great, I’ll fit in fine walking around with someone as popular as you! Ash begins to hug Daisy at the waist. Daisy pushes him back immediately. Ash: Hey, what did you do that for? Daisy: You’re wrinkling my skirt! Besides, if any of my friends saw me with a freshmen like you, my reputation would be ruined! Ash: Then we can be friends in private, behind the scenes. Daisy: (walking away) I’m sorry, Ash, but that’s just the way it is in senior high. Just as Daisy disappears from sight, a guy comes running up to him. Guy: Tell me! Tell me how you managed to attract Daisy Waterflower like that! Ash: What do you mean? Guy: What do I mean? You spend two minutes talking to the most beautiful, popular, and available female in school, and you want to know what I mean? Ash: Wait a minute, you’re that guy who jumped on stage yesterday, aren’t you? Guy: (calming down) Oh, so you’re a freshman. (jumping on Ash) I can’t believe a freshman is flirting with the sexiest, smartest, most flexible cheerleader... Ash: (pushing him away) Okay, okay, I get the idea. What’s your name anyway? Guy: Me? I’m Brock Slate, of Pewter City. Ash: I thought you looked familiar! I defeated you for a Boulder Badge four summers ago! I was the one with the amazing Pikachu. Brock: Pikachu? Oh, you must be Ash Ketchum! Ash: Yep. Brock: Tell me, what’s your secret? How do you pick up chicks so quickly? Ash: Pick up? Look, I’m just friends, okay. Brock: Friends. That’s what they all say. Then all of a sudden, they’re looking at each other, dreaming about each other, kissing each other, sleeping together in bed... Ash: (sweatdrops) Boy, you’ve got one vivid imagination. Brock: Yeah. It’s just because I’m girl crazy. Say, you wanna hang out after school? I’m going to scope out the cheerleading tryouts. Ash: Sure, I guess. Brock: Great! Meet me at the gymnasium at three. Before Ash could reconsider the offer, Brock ran off, trying to find another girl to flirt with. Ash hurries off to his first class, hoping that he won’t be late. ************************************************************************ 8:30 a.m., Main Classroom Building, Room 141 About twenty-five students are chatting loudly in the classroom, all freshmen, all more interested in talking about anything but school. Suddenly, the teacher comes into the room, wheeling a cart of mathematics books. Everyone stops talking. He puts one on everybody’s desk, along with a copy of the class rules, then walks to the front of the classroom. He writes his name on the board, Mr. Seymour South, then turns towards the class. Seymour: Good morning, Algebra students. My name is Mr. South, but you can call me Seymour. Anyway, you have a copy of the class rules in your hands. Read them and know what they are, because I won’t go over them at all during this class. You are expected to know them and know what to expect if you break them. Ash: (puzzled) Is this the same Seymour I met up at Mt. Moon? Seymour: Now, open your books to page one, and we’ll start talking about numbers. Rational, irrational, real, imaginary, odd, even, integer, whole, mixed fractions, we’ll talk about them all. Ash and the rest of the class groans in disbelief as they open their books and Seymour begins to lecture. ************************************************************************ Main Classroom Building, Room 155 Misty rushes in the room just in time. Unfortunately, the only open seat in the room lies in the front row... next to Gary Oak. Misty: (sitting down) Hey, don’t I know you from somewhere? Gary: (recognizing her) That’s right, you’re that annoying redhead from the Cerulean City gym! The one I beat so easily! Misty: You don’t have to rub it in. Gary: Ha, if your Pokémon training is any indication of your abilities, then you’ll never succeed in high school. Misty: Oh yeah? We’ll just see about that, Gary! Gary: I’m surprised you even remember my name, Misty. I didn’t even stay long enough to get it implanted in that small skull of yours! Misty: Why you little... The teacher, a woman, walks over and breaks the two of them up. Teacher: (yelling) Break it up you two or I’ll send you to detention! Gary: Eep! Misty: You said a mouthful. She then walks to the board and begins to write. Teacher: Now, let’s get started on the principles of the national government. But first, let me introduce myself. I am Miss Mia Miyamoto. I’ve been teaching this class for thirty-eight years. Young Boy: Isn’t time to retire, old hag? Miss Miyamoto turns around and really bursts out in anger at the class. Miyamoto: Just for that, there will be a homework assignment tonight, and a pop quiz on today’s notes tomorrow! Everyone in the room started to complain. Miyamoto: And if I find out who made that remark, that kid will receive detention for a week! The students begin to talk amongst themselves, all wondering what they had gotten themselves into. Miss Miyamoto got tired of it, so... Miyamoto: Make that double homework tonight! As she turns back around to begin writing on the board... Gary: (putting his head on the desk) Crap! This is going to be one heck of a school year. Misty: (whispering to Gary) You can definitely bet on that. ************************************************************************ 3:05 p.m., Vileplume Arena (Viridian City Senior High School Main Gymnasium) Ash walks towards the gym, hoping to join Brock as he watches the cheerleaders practice. Ash: Who knows... (doing his victory pose) I might even find myself a girlfriend! He enters the gym, but then stops dead in his tracks when he sees Brock being chased by a majority of the girls in the room... all being lead by Melanie. Melanie: Come back here, you pervert! Brock: I didn’t mean to do it, Melanie, honest! Melanie: Coming from you, that’s an understatement... especially since you sneaked into the girls’ locker room! Brock: I didn’t mean to sneak in, I just stumbled in! Ash sweatdrops, knowing that helping out Brock right now would be a really bad decision. Suddenly, he feels a warm hand touch his shoulder. He turns around and sees May, who is strolling in late for practice. May: Hello, Ash. Ash: (in a squeaky voice) Hi! May: What are you doing here? Ash: Nothing, just wanted to check out the cheerleaders, that’s all. (thinking) Man, May just keeps getting more beautiful every time I see her. May: (smiling) Well, as you can see, now isn’t the best time to be here. Ash: I guess so, with Brock here and everything. May: Well, gotta go, Ash! If we don’t get Brock out of here, we’ll never start practice! Ash: Okay then, see you around! Ash leaves and somehow manages to find his way down to the track... ************************************************************************ 3:20 p.m., Van Graveler Stadium Van Graveler Stadium serves two purposes... as a field where the football team plays their games, and as a track for people to run on. Ash takes a seat in the stands, and watches as the track team suddenly runs in, one by one, all dead tired as they cross the finish line. Ash: That looks tough! How can these people stand to run for three miles? Boy: Wish I knew the answer to that one, Ash. He turns around and spots the short, black-haired kid known as Samurai sitting next to him... minus the armor. Ash: Samurai! Samurai: I’m surprised you remember. After all, we met four years ago. Ash: I never forget a face. Samurai: So, this is what it’s like to be in high school, huh? Ash: Yeah. It’s a drag. Samurai: I can’t believe how much homework I got! I’ll be busy all night! Ash: Same here. They couldn’t wait until at least tomorrow to give us some? Samurai: (wiping the sweat off his forehead) And I thought Pokémon training was tough. The two laugh at the thought, then continue to converse, as they try to catch up on their exploits since their first meeting. Suddenly, Misty, dressed in her running outfit, comes barreling down the track to the finish line. She crosses the finish line, as the coach reads off her time, then stops right by the fence. She bends over in exhaustion, breathing heavily... just like the other fifteen that crossed before her and the others that were coming in from behind. Misty: (gasping for air) I can’t... believe... how hard... that was. I’ve... never run... so much in my life. Track Coach: Okay, you guys, take a ten minute break, then we’ll finish up with a 400. Misty bends over the fence to rest. She finally gathers the strength to pick up her water bottle and take a few gulps. After putting it down, she glances up to the stands and spots Ash for the first time. Misty: Hey, that kid looks awfully familiar. Could it really be... him? Misty ponders where she’s seen Ash before... possibly the Viridian Forest? Or was it the Viridian City Pokémon Center? Or maybe the Cerulean City Pokémon gym? ************************************************************************ 3:45 p.m., Pokémon Tech Courtyard Two people stand face-to-face in the courtyard. One is a girl, a brunette, who is wearing a blue apron over a professional white short sleeve shirt and a short skirt that could make her pass for a Sailor Scout. A red bow lies just below her neck, and her beautiful brown eyes accented her irresistible body. The other is a boy, slightly younger, with brown hair. He is wearing a blue suit and matching pants, over a white shirt and a green tie. A tear leaks from the boy’s eyes, as the girl picks up her purse and a small backpack filled with all of her clothes and other assorted things. Boy: Please, don’t leave Giselle! Giselle: Joe, I can’t stay here forever! Besides, being a Pokémon trainer can only take you so far. Joe: But Giselle, I can’t live a day without laying my eyes on you! Giselle walks over, puts her bags down for a second, then looks deep into Joe’s eyes. Giselle: Joe, you just don’t understand! I have to follow the rules like everyone else. I have to go to high school just like I did last year. Joe: (about to break out in tears) Why can’t you take your normal classes here? Giselle: (smacks Joe upside the head) Because, Pokémon professors are only good for teaching about Pokémon! If I want to learn about what it takes to go to college, then I have to go to Viridian City! Joe: But, but... Giselle: No buts, Joe! I’m going and that’s final! She motions towards her bags, preparing to pick them up, as Joe breaks into tears. Giselle can’t stand to hear him whining, so she stops and grabs Joe. Her soft side comes out, luckily, and she decides to talk calmly rather than smack her best friend once again. Giselle: Joe, look, it’ll be the same as last time. I’ll be back in May to continue my training. I want to come back anyway... I only needed 10 credits to graduate and then head on to the Pokémon League. Joe: Giselle... I’m going to miss you. You’ve always been like a big sister to me! Giselle: (hugging Joe) And you’ve always been a little brother to me. She then picks up her bags, and this time walks off for real. Joe watches as Giselle disappears from sight. Joe: (yelling after her) Giselle, I love you! Joe didn’t know whether or not Giselle heard him, but somehow he knew that she felt the same way about him.
