This is the break-up: Second Summer: Vermillion City, Saffron City, and Celadon City Third Summer: Fuschia City and Safari Zone Fourth Summer: Seafoam Islands, Cinnabar Island, and Viridian City Only three major changes: * After passing through Fuschia City, Ash meets up with Duplica, and later Todd, who both join him in his journey. The two leave just after the breeding center incident. More on these two will be revealed later in the series, when they make their debuts. * After earning the Volcano Badge, Ash returns home to Pallet Town to work with Professor Oak for awhile, as well as spend some time with his mom. * The roles of Gary and Ash were reversed in Viridian City. Ash ends up the one catching sight of Mewtwo there, and later that summer, Gary and his cheerleaders made the trip to New Island to subdue Mewtwo, with the help of Corey, Fergus, and Neesha. The tournament has not taken place yet, so in terms of episode placement, Ash currently stands in his journey after the episode “Showdown at the Poké-Corral.” ( ) denotes either an action the character is doing or a note of mine to point out to you [ ] denotes what a particular Pokémon is saying, in English **** denotes a scene change Disclaimer: Only characters used as fillers in this chapter are mine. She walks down the hall through the crowds, and then turns a corner... and ends up running into Gary. Gary: Hey! Watch where you’re going! Misty: Me? Why don’t you watch where you’re going! Gary: Because I asked you first! Misty: Oh yeah? Gary: Yeah! Richie: (out of nowhere) Fight, fight, fight! The two drop their bookbags, and clench their fists. Their anger is getting the best of them, but both of them are too stubborn to realize it. Just as Gary is about to lead off with a jab to Misty’s midsection, Daisy, who was curious as to what was going on, pushes through the crowd and catches his fist. Gary: Hey! Daisy: (releasing Gary’s fist) Shame on you, picking on a girl! Misty: Daisy, I can take care of myself! Daisy: Misty, stay out of this. And as for you, young man, if I see you bothering my little sister again, I will personally escort you to the school swimming pool and drown you! Gary: Eep. I just remembered... I’ve got to get to class before Miss Miyamoto assigns me an extra homework assignment. Gary picks up his bookbag and runs down the hall. Daisy waves the crowd off, and then turns towards her younger sister. Misty: Daisy! Daisy: Don’t Daisy me, young lady! You know better than to get into a fight. Misty: But Daisy! Daisy: No buts, Misty! As your oldest sister, I’m responsible for your well-being. But I’m not going to bail you out every time some whippersnapper like him tries to bring out your bad side... Daisy then gets into a speech about keeping out of trouble. Misty tries her best to ignore her. She then notices that Daisy has stopped talking. She looks over in the same direction as her, noticing that everyone else in the hall is doing the same. A brunette dressed in a senshi-style type dress and white high heels is walking down the hall. Daisy: Who’s that girl? Misty: That’s what I’d like to know. Richie, who didn’t leave the scene after Daisy broke up the crowd, pushes his way past the two of them and steps right into the girl’s path. Richie: Okay brunette, what makes you think you can walk your pretty little butt into my school like you own the place? She steps towards him, and everyone gasps as she grabs him by the collar and pulls his face close to hers. Girl: First off, the name’s Giselle Gravelpot. And second, I can walk my pretty butt wherever I want, understand? With that, Giselle pushes Richie to the floor. Everyone is stunned by her actions. She ignores them, and continues down the hall towards a classroom. Things pretty much return to normal after that... somewhat. Daisy: What’s up with her? Misty: I think she’s spent too much time hanging around snobs, if you ask me. The warning bell rings, and everyone scatters to get to class on time. Misty: Oh no, I still have to go to my locker! (waves goodbye to Daisy) See you at lunch, Daisy! Daisy: Now wait a second... Misty Waterflower, you march back here right now! Misty: (over the chatter of the crowd) I can’t hear you over the crowd! Misty disappears in the crowd. Daisy just sighs as she too becomes lost among the other students. ************************************************************************ 8:10 a.m., Main Classroom Building, Room 155 Misty bolts through the door just before the late bell rings. Miss Miyamoto doesn’t seem to notice, since three or four other kids are running in behind her, also trying to beat the bell. She then spots someone sitting in her seat in the front row. She approaches the figure... it’s Giselle, and she’s already getting comfortable with her surroundings. Misty: Excuse me, but you’re in my seat. Giselle: And your point is? Misty: (yelling) Get out of my seat! Miss Miyamoto: Misty Waterflower! You’ve just earned yourself double homework tonight! Now, find a seat and get in it! Misty grumbles as she walks past Giselle and then past Gary. She barely hears him mumble something in her direction. Gary: Next time, your sister won’t be around to protect you. Giselle: (watching them both) There seems to be tension between those two. That’s something I ought to note for the gossip file. She then smiles wickedly as Miss Miyamoto begins the day’s lesson. ************************************************************************ 11:30 a.m., Viridian City Senior High School Cafeteria Brock is sitting at one of the tables by himself. With a fork in one hand slicing the partially cooked piece of lasagna in front of him, and the other holding a picture of someone, he seems very content with himself. Ash then suddenly plops his tray next to Brock, and sits down. Ash: Hey Brock-o... say, who’s that in the picture? Brock doesn’t respond... he’s swooning over the girl in the picture. Ash snatches it from Brock’s hand, bringing him back to reality. Ash: No wonder you’re in a trance. This girl’s cute! Brock: I know. I just can’t wait to meet her and ask her out! Ash: What’s her name? Brock: Giselle Gravelpot. She’s a sophomore who attends Pokémon Tech over the summer months. She comes here during the rest of the year to attend regular high school with the rest of us. Ash: You mean you know her personally? Brock: No, I’ve never seen her in person. I’m hoping that someday I’ll get my chance to change all that. Ash: I know what you mean. Brock: (pulls the picture away) No way, buddy. Giselle’s mine. You’ve already got May Oak! Ash: (snatches it back) But Giselle looks hotter in a swimsuit than May does! Brock: (tugging at the picture) How would you know? Ash: (tugging at his end) Because I’ve seen her before. Brock lets go of the picture, causing Ash to tumble to the floor. He helps get back into his seat before anyone can notice. Brock: What do you mean you’ve seen her before? Ash: I met her while passing by the school about four summers ago... ************************************************************************ Begin Flashback Sequence - “Caught by the Swimming Pool” It was an unusually hot day in August. Ash had left Cerulean City after defeating Misty for the Cascade Badge the day before. He then walks by a fence, and spots Giselle by the Pokémon Tech swimming pool. At that moment, she was stripping down to a two-piece orange swimsuit. Ash hides behind a bush to catch a glimpse of her as she springs off the diving board and into the water. Ash: She’s good. She’s very good. He begins clapping in applause for her. Unfortunately, he doesn’t see Giselle get out of the pool, grab a towel, and leave. He glances back, and thinking that she’s still underwater, he begins to worry. Ash: Something’s not right... she’s been down there too long! I’ve got to go in and save her! Ash runs towards the entrance, and begins to peel off one piece of clothing after another on his way to the pool. He enters the pool area stripped down completely to just his underwear, and then just as he is about to dive in, he’s hit in the back of the head with a shoe. He falls to the ground, unconscious. Giselle then appears and picks the shoe up from the ground. Giselle: Serves you right. The nerve of some people. (looks at her shoe) And look at my shoe! It’s got a scratch on it! Oh, you’re going to pay when you wake up, kid! Pikachu, who conveniently was walking a little behind Ash, had followed him in. It entered the area, carrying Ash’s belongings, when it spots Giselle waving her shoe at Ash. Seeing it as a threat, Pikachu thundershocks Giselle, knocking her out. She falls to the ground, right next to Ash. ************************************************************************ Back in the cafeteria, present time... Brock: So then what happened? Ash: Beats me. When I came to, me and Pikachu were lying right beside Route 24, and Pokémon Tech was nowhere in sight. Brock: That’s too bad. You probably could’ve gotten a date with her too. Ash: Maybe... but I have reason to believe she doesn’t like me. After all, Pikachu told me that she was the one who knocked me out. Brock: I bet she was just trying to protect herself. She thought you were a stalker, and so, she attacked you. Ash: (rubbing his head) Whatever she attacked me with must’ve been pretty big. It feels like it happened just yesterday. Brock: I know how you feel... love hurts... literally. And that’s from personal experience. Ash: That reminds me... how did you avoid getting beat up the cheerleading squad at the game last week? Brock: I didn’t... (holding his head) it was the football team that gave me the beating. ************************************************************************ 2:45 p.m., Vileplume Arena (Viridian City Senior High School Main Gymnasium) Melanie is helping a few of the cheerleaders prepare the gym for practice. Giselle then enters and walks up to her. Giselle: Excuse me, is this where the cheerleading squad practices? Melanie: Why yes it is. May I help you? Giselle: Yes. I’m Giselle, and I’m wondering if I can try out for the squad. Melanie: Well, Giselle, we’ve already had tryouts, but unfortunately, we have more than enough qualified people. You’ll have to wait until next year. Giselle: Okay, thanks. Melanie: You’re welcome... oh, and by the way, my name’s Melanie. Giselle: (waving goodbye) Thanks for your help, Melanie! Melanie returns to work, and Giselle exits the gym. She then takes a pocket organizer out from her purse, and begins to punch some buttons on it. Giselle: I’ll show her that no one denies Giselle Gravelpot what she wants. With that, she closes the organizer, and walks off. ************************************************************************ 7:00 p.m., Viridian City Senior High School Dormitory Village, 601 Starmie Hall After eating dinner with her sisters, which included two rants from Daisy... one to her about the incident from earlier, and the other to Lily, who had flunked another quiz... Misty returns to her room, and finds a note on the door. Misty: What’s this? She takes the note off the door and begins to read it. Misty: Misty, you know we’ve had our differences the past two weeks here. But I finally managed to find a temporary solution to our problem. I’ve moved out. Coincidentally, my best friend, Josephine, lost her roommate late last week because she had transferred to Celadon City Senior High School. So I’ve decided to move in with her. The housing department already has someone lined up to take my place, but she can’t move in until tomorrow. So tonight you have the whole room to yourself. I wish we could have come to terms on some sort of agreement, but I guess it didn’t work out between us. Sincerely yours, Sandy. Misty, sort of stunned, unlocks the door, and steps inside. Closing it behind her, she glances over at Sandy’s side of the room, now vacant, and begins to reflect on the past. Then, as quickly as she had gotten in trouble in Miss Miyamoto’s class earlier that day, she began to dance around the room. Misty: Yahoo! Sandy’s gone! That annoying little brat won’t be around to bother me any longer! She continues her celebration for several minutes, which ends with her crumpling the note and aiming for her wastebasket. It rattles around the rim, and goes in. ************************************************************************ September 16th, 4:30 p.m., 202 Flame Hall Ash is sitting at his desk, studying. Studying a picture of Giselle, to be exact... Ash: (sighs) If only I could get the chance to see her again... then I can tell her how I truly feel about her. Pikachu suddenly appears and hops on his shoulder. Pikachu: Pika pika? Pi kachu pika? [Who’s that? Your cousin?] Ash: Are you crazy? No way a girl this beautiful can be my cousin! Pikachu: Pi pika... pika pi chu pika pikachu pi chu pika pika pikachu pikachu pi pi pi pi chu pikachu, pika pika? [Wait a second... that’s the girl that knocked you out near Cerulean City four years ago, isn’t it?] Ash: You mean you actually remember that? Pikachu: Pi pikachu. Pi pika pika chu, pi kachu ka pi pichu pika pika chu. [Of course. I’m your best friend, I’m supposed to know all of this stuff.] Ash: I just can’t get my mind off of her for some reason. Pikachu thundershocks Ash back to reality. Ash: Pikachu! What did you do that for? Pikachu runs into Ash’s closet and picks out a picture of him and May together. Pikachu: (pointing to the picture) Pika pi, pika? [Remember her, Ash?] Ash: (taking the picture) May... my one childhood love. (then glances at Giselle’s picture) But Giselle... (keeps switching from one picture to the other) Man, why can’t I have them both? Pikachu: Pika pika pi pikachu chu! [Because that’s how life works!] Ash: (angry) How would you know? You’ve never even felt love before! He breaks out in tears, and then out of the room and into the hall. Pikachu is totally confused by Ash’s outburst. The electric mouse just stands there, wondering why humans can’t handle emotions as well as Pokémon can. ************************************************************************ 6:15 p.m., Viridian City Senior High School Dormitory Village, 601 Starmie Hall Misty is putting the finishing touches on a friendship bracelet. Her new roommate is expected to arrive any minute. Misty: (holding the bracelet in the air) I hope my new roommate appreciates this. I spent all night making it. She then hears the door unlocking. Misty: That must be her. I’ll bet she’ll be thrilled to receive this gift! The door opens, and her new roommate steps into the room. Misty: Hi! Welcome to your new home! I’m your roommate, Misty! The girl steps out of the shadows... it’s Giselle, with two suitcases in hand. Misty: You! Giselle: Well, well, look who it is... the “hey, that’s my seat” girl from government class. Misty: You’re my new roommate? Giselle: Seems that way. And I am not pleased. Misty: Likewise. Giselle: (noticing the bracelet) What’s that? Misty: This? It’s a friendship bracelet. Giselle: Things like that have no meaning. She slaps the bracelet out of Misty’s hand. It falls to the ground, dead. Misty looks on with cold eyes as Giselle throws her suitcases onto her bed. Giselle: What are you doing just standing there? If we hurry, we can make it to the cafeteria in time for dinner. Giselle opens the door and runs out of the room, heading for the elevator. Misty then falls to her knees, saddened by Giselle’s uncaring attitude. A tear leaks from her eye as she spots the glare of the sun as it begins to set over the horizon... To be continued...
