Giselle’s got her eye on Gary Oak But Gary’s got his on Misty, that’s no joke. Here comes Ash, though, with Giselle in his sights Can anyone clear up this mess on this night of nights? This series is now available at my website, The Poké-Post: Web address: http://www.acmecity.com/games/mythical/292 ************************************************************************ September 18th, 8:30 a.m., Viridian City Senior High School, Main Classroom Building, Room 155 On this fateful day, Miss Miyamoto is teaching the class about how a dictatorship is much better than a democracy, in her opinion, of course. But three familiar students aren’t paying attention at all... they’re all off daydreaming. Misty: (glancing out the window) Look at how nice it is outside! I can’t believe I’m spending my time listening to a crackpot who doesn’t even follow the course syllabus she gave us! In my opinion, I just think she wants all of us to fail this class. Gary: (looking towards the ceiling) Who cares about some stupid dictatorship principle. I’d rather be out training my Pokémon... after all, I am going to be a future Pokémon master someday. Giselle: (staring at Gary with endearment) Who would have thought that I’d have a crush on Gary Oak. He’s so arrogant, yet he’s cute, in a sort of twisted way. I wonder if he’d want to go out with a girl like me. Miss Miyamoto then brings everyone back to reality, as she takes a meterstick and slams it down on a student’s desk. Miss Miyamoto: Since everyone seems to sleep through my lectures, I’m giving you all an assignment! I want you all to write a one page essay on which do you think is better, a dictatorship or a democracy. It’s due at the end of class! Misty: (raising her hand) But Miss Miyamoto, there’s only fifteen minutes left! Miss Miyamoto: Then I suggest you and your classmates better getting writing, Miss Waterflower! And anyone who fails to turn in a paper will receive a double zero! Gary: A double zero? Miss Miyamoto: No... a triple zero, which thanks to you, Mr. Oak, will be what a student will receive if I don’t get a paper! Now get to work! The students all begin to write furiously on their pieces of paper... all except Giselle, who seems to be oblivious to the whole ordeal. Giselle: Oh, Gary... he’s so cute when he’s angry. The whole class giggles, as Giselle realizes that she had blurted that last phrase out loud. Miss Miyamoto assigns her and Gary two page essays for the interruption. ************************************************************************ 2:40 p.m., Main Classroom Building While walking through the halls on the way to her locker, Giselle spots Gary by his, getting together his homework assignments for the night. Giselle: (to herself) This is my chance to rope Gary in, while no one’s around! Quickly moving through the crowd, she makes it over and taps Gary on the shoulder. Gary turns towards her, as one of the books enclosed in his arms fall out and land on Giselle’s left foot. Giselle: Ouch! That hurt! Gary: Well, you shouldn’t have been standing there! Giselle: (silently) And I’ve got a fist here that says I should be! Gary: Wait a minute... aren’t you that girl that sits next to me in that “witch’s” class? Giselle: If you’re referring to Miss Miyamoto, then you’re absolutely correct. The name’s Giselle Gravelpot. Gary: I know who you are... every male in the school is impressed by your good looks. Giselle: (blushing) Really? Gary: Except me. You call those hips of yours sexy? I’ve seen better hips on cows! Giselle: (attempting to contain her anger) Now now, remember that you’ve got a crush on him! He’s just playing hard to get. Gary: And your hair... I’ve never seen anything that fake in my life! Giselle: My mom made me get it permed this way. She wouldn’t allow me to get it multicolored and ruffled. (sweatdrops, talking to herself) Now why in the world did I say that? Gary: But I bet nothing can be worse than that brain of yours. Giselle: What do you mean by that remark? Gary: What do I mean? Come on, Giselle, anyone can plainly see that the only thing you focus on in life is dressing like a slut in order to get a quickie-date! Giselle: (talking to her conscience) Can I please beat him up? He’s insulting me, for crying out loud! (to Gary) Could you excuse me for a second? Giselle runs off to the girls’ restroom. She then begins to powder her face as she ponders her next move. Giselle: What am I going to do? I can’t muster enough courage to tell him how I truly feel because he keeps insulting me! (begins to breathe in and out slowly) Okay, this time, tell him straight out. Don’t wait for him to speak. She steps back into the hallway as if nothing had happened. She then walks over to Gary once again. Gary: Back for more? I’m surprised that you’re still here, after all I’ve said. Giselle: (silently) Great, he’s starting already. Better hit him now. (to Gary) Um, Gary? Gary: What? Giselle: I was just wondering, well, if you would... um, if you would... Gary: If I would what? Speak up! Giselle: (gulps) If you would like to go out on a date with me. Yes, that’s right, I’d like to know if you’d like to go out on a date with me. Gary suddenly drops all of his books on the floor. Giselle looks at him strangely. Giselle: Is there something wrong? Gary: Wrong? No, nothing’s wrong. (to himself) Man, I don’t want to go out with her! She’s a complete brat. But I can’t just say no right in front of her... she’ll probably smack me upside the head if she hears that. I know, I’ll grab the next pretty thing that walks around that corner and claim that she’s my girlfriend. That’ll work. The next pretty thing that happens to the round the corner is... Ash! Ash: Hi Gary! What’s up? Gary: Oh nothing much. (to himself) Crap, that didn’t work out too good. Ash: If you say so. (waves goodbye) See you back in the room! Gary: Sure thing, Ash. Ash walks off, not even noticing that Giselle is standing next to Gary! Gary: (to himself) Maybe I’ll have more luck with the next person... Misty, carrying her backpack, rounds the corner and heads towards the duo. Gary: (to himself) Oh well, at least she’s better than Ash. Grabbing Misty by the waist, he pulls her over towards his locker. Gary: I can’t go on a date with you Giselle because... (pulling Misty closer) Misty here is my girlfriend! Misty and Giselle: (simultaneously) What? Gary: Don’t you remember, Misty? We’ve been dating for two years now. Gary winks at her, and Misty nods her head, understanding the gesture. Misty: Of course I remember, tweetie pie! I was being distracted by my school work and everything. Giselle: Misty, you’re my roommate and you didn’t even tell me that you and Gary were an item? Misty: You never asked! Besides, I didn’t even know you had a crush on him! Gary: To tell you the truth, sugar plum, I didn’t even know she liked me. Giselle: Well, sorry about trying to break you two up. I didn’t mean to. Gary: That’s okay, Giselle. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have to get going now. Gary, still holding on to Misty’s waist, closes his locker, picks up his books, and then the two walk towards the main entrance. Giselle looks on with a hint of jealousy. Giselle: (deep in thought) Something’s fishy here. I could swear that those two hated each other’s guts! I’d better keep an eye on them. Outside, on the main steps, Misty breaks free of Gary’s grip. Misty: What were you thinking, Gary? You know that there’s nothing special between us! Gary: I know, Misty, but I can’t stand Giselle! Her high-pitched voice makes my ears crack! I could never get used to hearing that, let alone go out with her. Misty: So to avoid dating her, you dragged me into this, right? Gary: Right. Misty: And it worked perfectly. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’ve got work to do. Gary: Misty, wait! You just can’t leave like that! If she sees the two of us apart, she’ll find out that we lied, and she’ll be after both of us. Misty: True. After all, she is my roommate. But what do you suppose we do? Gary: We go out on a date! Misty: A date? Are you crazy? Gary: No, it’s perfect! Giselle will probably follow us to the ends of the earth to discover if our relationship is true, right? There’s no better way to prove it than through a movie and a romantic dinner! Misty: Okay, I’ll do it. But afterwards, we go our separate ways, got it? Gary: Got it? I’ll pick you up tomorrow around six, okay? Misty: Fine by me. Gary: Okay... see you later, sugar plum! Misty: (sighs) That’s what I get for calling him tweetie pie. Just what kind of a nick name is sugar plum anyway? She walks off towards her dorm room, not knowing that Giselle is following her. ************************************************************************ September 19th, 6:00 p.m., Viridian City Senior High School Dormitory Village, 601 Starmie Hall Misty, dressed in an aqua blue colored evening gown, prepares to step out of the room to meet Gary downstairs, when Giselle blocks her way. Giselle: All right, Misty. I have this strange feeling that Gary’s just using you in order to stay away from me. Am I right? Misty: What makes you say that? Gary’s my one and only sweetheart. Giselle: Don’t play games with me, Misty! I know you don’t like him... you’re just playing along with Gary’s plan, aren’t you? Misty: Giselle, the only person around here playing games is you! I love Gary, and that’s all there is to it! With that, Misty pushes Giselle aside and walks out, towards the stairs. A minute later, she meets Gary, and the two head off towards the movie theater. Shortly thereafter, Giselle bounds after them, dressed in black completely from head to toe. ************************************************************************ 7:09 p.m., Cinema 24 Movie Theater The people in the half-filled room are busy watching a movie about Vulpix who leaves her would-be husbands at the altar. Sitting in the tenth row or so are Gary and Misty, both eating popcorn, while at the same time keeping an eye out for Giselle. Unknown to them, Giselle’s watching them from just three rows back. Misty: Do you think Giselle followed us? Gary: I’m sure she did. Quick, lie your head on my shoulder! She does so. Giselle looks on in disgust. Giselle: (fuming) That should be me lying on Gary’s shoulder, not Misty! She takes her popcorn box and throws it, hitting Misty in the back of the head. She ducks under the seat so that Misty doesn’t find her as she tries to find the culprit. Misty: (rubbing her head) I bet that was Giselle who threw that box. She’s so jealous. (to Gary) Gary, why don’t you just tell her how you feel? Gary: Do you know what she’d do to me if I told her the truth? Misty: I see what you mean... but still, it’s better than carrying on this charade. Gary: At least it’s better than this movie. Misty: Agreed. Let’s just go to the restaurant and get this silly date over with. They leave just as Vulpix, riding a Rapidash, gallops away from the scene, and from her third probable husband, a Growlithe. Giselle follows them out. ************************************************************************ 7:45 p.m., The “Firestorm” Restaurant, Downtown Viridian City After waiting fifteen minutes for a free table, Gary and Misty are sitting down and looking at the expensive menus. After placing their orders, the two begin to converse once again. Misty: Tell me, Gary, why did you decide to drag me into this in the first place? Gary: Because you happened to be the first girl to pass by at the moment. Misty: Okay, then let me ask you this... do you have a crush on me? Gary: You? We hate each other’s guts! We pester each other in class! Why would I have a crush on you? Misty: (shrugs her shoulders) I guess you’re right about that. Still, I have this nagging feeling that you care for me on the inside. Gary: You can believe whatever you want. Once this dinner’s over, I’m heading back to my room to play some video games. Misty: Me too. At least Giselle will get off our backs once this is over. Gary: I second that! (raising his empty glass) To getting rid of Giselle! Misty: (doing likewise) To getting rid of Giselle! The two toast to that. Speaking of which, Giselle is outside, trying to find a way inside. Giselle: How am I supposed to get in there to spy on them without a reservation? Suddenly she hears another voice from nearby. Ash: I know Gary’s up to something in there... what would he be doing at a fancy place like this? The two then look at each other, and nearly scream their heads off... until they muffle each others mouths with their hands. Giselle: Who are you, and what are you doing here? Ash: I’m Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town! And you’re Giselle Gravelpot, the girl from Pokémon Tech! Giselle: (pushing her hair back) Isn’t that obvious? Wait, don’t I know you from somewhere? Oh, that’s right... She walks over to Ash and slaps him across the face. Giselle: That’s for peeking at me four years ago by the pool! Ash: (rubbing his face) Ouch. Giselle: Let me guess... you’re here spying on your girlfriend Misty, right? Ash: Misty? You mean that’s the name of Gary’s date? Giselle: You mean you’re spying on Gary? Why? Ash: I was curious to see who his girlfriend was. But now I’m happy I came... I get to fall in love with the one I love. Giselle: Who’s that? Ash: You. Giselle: (rolling her eyes) Anyway, I know you want to get in there as bad as I do, so here’s the plan. She begins to whisper in Ash’s ear. After a minute, Ash nods in agreement, then Giselle leads the way towards the restaurant. As Ash begins to walk, Giselle stops and slaps him across the face again. Ash: What was that for? Giselle: You were staring at me! Ash: I was? (Giselle raises her hand) Oh, I guess I was. (to himself) Man, I’ll never wash these eyes again. ************************************************************************ 8:15 p.m. After being seated by the doorman, Ash and Giselle are keeping a close eye on Gary and Misty... well, one of them is, anyway. Giselle: (to herself) Okay, Gary, I’m following you until you either kiss Misty or admit your love for me. Ash: (to himself) I can’t believe I’m having dinner with Giselle! I can’t believe I’m having dinner with Giselle! I can’t believe... Ahem... over at Gary and Misty’s table... Misty: (yawns) I’m getting a little tired, Gary. Let’s head back. Gary: I agree. This place is giving me the creeps. After paying for their meal, the two leave, hand-in-hand. Giselle sees this and gets up to leave, when she notices that there’s food on the table. Giselle: What’s this? Ash: Well, you looked hungry, so I went ahead and ordered lobster for the both of us! Giselle: I can’t eat now, Gary and Misty are leaving! Three waiters come over to the table and block Giselle’s path. Giselle: On second thought, maybe I will eat now. Ash: (watching Giselle sit back down) Say, how about you and me go up to my room after this, Giselle? Giselle takes her glass of water and splashes it in Ash’s face in anger. She then leaves fifteen dollars on the table, and walks out, leaving him alone. ************************************************************************ 8:30 p.m., Viridian City Senior High School Dormitory Village, Starmie Hall Just outside Misty’s dormitory hall, she and Gary say their good-byes. Misty: There goes one Friday night I could’ve spent partying. Gary: What are you talking about? It’s only eight thirty! Misty: Really? If I hurry, maybe my sisters will let me go with them to a friend’s house. Misty runs off towards her sister’s place. Gary just stands there, watching her disappear from sight. Gary: She’s not that bad when you get to know her. (sighs) Maybe one day I’ll get the courage to express my love for her. Gary continues to ponder what could have been his first kiss just moments ago, as the moon begins to shine its brightest behind him. There may be hope for him yet, though, as a lone shooting star streaks through the night sky. To be continued... Do you like what’s happened so far?
