Since yesterday's monumentally large win over Crimson City in a very heated showdown, the Geodude are off to the National Championship game! But, their old rivals, the Celadon Oddish, are their opponents. Coach: Well, boys, this is it. I hope you're all packed. The players nod. Scott (As the coach talks): You nervous? Gary (Whispering): Hey, it's half a week off school. AJ (Jumping in): That's true... 3 days in Hop-Hop-Hop Town. Scott: Imagine the crowds at Fire Blast Stadium... Gary: Forget it... the stands will be cheering for the Oddish. AJ: Damn the home-field advantage! Scott: How are we gonna get there? AJ: Our car's full. Gary: My sister's driving Misty and her sisters, and me. Scott: Guess I'll be taking the train. AJ: Sorry, man. Scott: Like I'm not going to get lost or anything. ************************************************************************ December 12th, 3:20 PM, Viridian Railway Station Scott sighed. The 2:55 train to Celadon was delayed, and now, it will be at least 6:20 until there would be an another one... Scott: (Thinking) The coach will kill me if I don't get there by 8:30! Samurai: Stuck with the train, too? Scott: (Shocked) Samurai! What are you doing here? Samurai: Reporting the week for the school paper. Scott: Got a place to stay in Hop-Hop-Hop yet? Samurai: The same hotel you guys are in. Scott: Wanna go get something to eat? Samurai: Sure... we've still got 2 hours or so. ************************************************************************ 7:30 PM, Fire Blast Hotel, Hop-Hop-Hop Town Finally, our heroes arrive in Hop-Hop-Hop Town, and as dinner was being served for the players from Viridian, the coach anxiously awaits some of the late arrivals. Coach: (To his aide) Where is McGwire, Kamensky and Oak? Aide: I've called... they're on their way. Coach: At least I hope so... Then, Gary stumbles in, all worn out. Coach: There you are, Oak! Do you know where Kamensky and McGwire are? Gary: (Tired) AJ is on the way with a bunch of us, while Scott's on the train. Coach: Do you know when they'll get here? Gary: No clue. Coach: And the press conference is an hour away! Aide: Calm down, sir... everything will be all right. Coach: Oh, shut up, pointdexter. ************************************************************************ 8:35 PM, Indigo Island Broadcasting Corporation HQ, Broadcasting Center Reporter: When will your players get here? Coach: I don't know. Celadon Coach: So, Patterson, you've come alone. Coach: That's none of your business! Celadon Coach: Why don't you give up now and give us the trophy? Coach: Not on your life! Dario: You and your sissy-pants boys better do what he says. Scott: (From behind) you and what army, Dario? Coach: Scott! Where have you been, lad? Scott: Caught up in traffic... sorry if I'm late. ************************************************************************ December 13th, 12:30 PM, Bulbasaurs' Mysterious Hotel, Hop-Hop-Hop Town Meanwhile, at the hotel, Misty, the Sensational Sisters, May and Melanie were relaxing at the spa, trying to get ready to strut their stuff on the National Championship game. (Save Misty, of course. She's just here in Hop-Hop-Hop to watch.) The leader of the cheerleading squad had warned them that they may not get very much applause, as much of the stands will be covered with Oddish supporters. Daisy: I don't care if I don't get applause. Violet: As long as we're prettier than the Celadon cheerleaders are, it's okay with me. Misty: Sorry, ladies, but the boys' verdict is in. May: Is it bad, Mist? Misty: Hate to burst your bubble, Lily, but it's true: the guys like the Celadon girls. Melanie: (Sarcastically) Thanks a lot, Misty. Violet: (Embarrassed) Now what are we gonna do? Daisy: Chill out, guys! Like honestly, who cares! Melanie, Lily, Violet and May (In unison): We do! Daisy and Misty: Okay, I guess I see the point. May: I'm going to get my hair done. Lily: And the nails! As Melanie and Violet follow May and Lily's lead, Daisy and Misty could only facefault and sweatdrop. ************************************************************************ 3:30 PM, Hop-Hop-Hop Park Medical Center As the game nears, the players wounded are getting themselves ready. Everyone wants a piece of the action, even though they're injured. Coach: Gary, are you good to go on Sunday? Gary: (Shrugs) I dunno. Coach: (Monotone) Questionable. Aide: Got that, sir. Coach: Scotty, Kevin's out with the flu...can you do it? Scott: Sure, of course. Aide: I doubt that. Scott: Hey, pointdexter, I'd keep my mouth shut if I were you. Aide: Sticks and stones, McGwire. With that, Scott punched the student aide in the face, which KO's him instantly. Coach: (Sweatdrops) Oh-kay... you're good to go. Then, he turns over to AJ, who was in the middle of his examination by the doctor. AJ: I think it's okay. Doctor: Not quite. Just keep your playing time to a low. Coach: Got it. ************************************************************************ 3:35 PM, Orange Archipelago, Tangerine Island Meanwhile, on the island, the boy-band wannabes are getting ready for their next practice when Ash thought of something. Ash: Hey, Alpo, do you got a TV here? Alpo: Why? DJ: Um, the high school football national championship is on Sunday. Greg: Oh, yeah...who's playing? Sean: I think it was Crimson and Celadon. Alpo: I dunno know... Mikey: I guess your school lost Ashy. Ash: No way... Scott and Gary aren't that dumb. Alpo: Actually, I've got my cell-phone. DJ: What good does that do? Alpo: Hold on a sec. Alpo gets on the phone, and moments later, he's got everything under control. Alpo: Good news, Ash... the Geodude are in the final with Celadon. Sean: Well, there goes my $20. Mikey: It was nice doing business with you. DJ: And the TV so we can watch the game? Alpo: Oh, that. Yeah, I've got it... as well as a few cold ones and snacks! All: Sweet! Alpo: Now, let's get back to work... still a lot to go before the last cuts. ************************************************************************ December 15th, 6:00 AM, Fire Blast Hotel, Room 1132 It was the day of the game, and everyone was nervous. It was the day that many players won't see again for the rest of their lives. Back in Viridian, the school has converted the entire Seaking Center into the place in town to watch the game... others, including Tracie and Giselle, were at the dorms watching on TV, while a group of Viridian diehards have traveled all the way here to watch the game personally. AJ: Oh, man, I'm not feeling so good. Gary (Half-asleep): Go back to sleep, AJ. AJ: I can't. Gary: Well, let me sleep, okay? AJ: 17 million people will be watching us, Gary. That number made Gary sit up. Gary: Don't worry... we've beaten them once, we'll do it again. AJ: That's true. Gary: We're gonna win this thing! AJ: I dunno...remember the last time? Gary: AJ, stop thinking about the past! AJ: No, no... what if Chopper's in? That thought made Gary worry a little, as half of the team was injured by one man during the Homecoming game in October, and that was the fact. ************************************************************************ 11:30 AM, Fire Blast Stadium Gary looked at his watch, and kissed his lucky Poke Ball with Eevee inside (again). Scott and Gloom were having their pre-game chat, while everyone else did their thing, or paced around before the coach posted the lineups for the game. Coach: (Coming in) Reporters are outside, if anyone wishes to speak. Some voluntarily trickle out, but many were rejected. Coach: C'mon! We need the stars to shine here! Make Viridian proud. It was then AJ, Scott and Gary got up, and went outside to face the glare of the camera's flashes, as well as the shouting of reporters. Reporter #1: I'm from the Tribune... what are the stakes for this game? AJ: Well, pride for one. Reporter #2: Are you really walking wounded? As the trio continued to withstand the bombardment, the rest of the players worry about a possible trip to the infirmary courtesy of Chopper. ************************************************************************ 12:30 PM, Fire Blast Stadium The national anthem had been sung, the coin toss has been taken, as all that is needed now is for the game itself to begin. Misty and her freshmen friends sat in the seats, while her sisters and the Cheerleading squad were revving up the unexpectedly huge Geodude diehard fans. May: Who's gonna win? Crowd: The Geodude! Lily: How are we gonna win it? Crowd: Crush them! Violet: Give me a big Geodude cheer! The Geodude crowd roars in a cheer, as the following moment, players from both sides take their positions on the field. The referee's whistle was blown, and THE game of the season was now ON! ************************************************************************ Meanwhile, not far away... Cassidy: What's the plan? Jessie (Cautious): This better not involve dynamite. Butch: Oh, you'll see, Jessie. James (Whining): C'mon, I'm itching to find out here! Cassidy: If the Oddish loses, then Viridian will pay! James: Hey, this better not involve destroying our school! Butch: Quiet! You're Celadon fans! Jessie: Says you we are! James: We may be bad, but we're true to our school! Butch: Fine, whatever, be whatever you wanna be! ************************************************************************ 1:00 PM, Fire Blast Stadium The situation was grim for the Geodude, and there were still 3 quarters to play before one team is crowned national champion. Gary has just had a relapse of his concussion, and AJ blew his knee again... in fact, many first-stringers were already out. Coach: There they go again... those rats! Aide: Sir, might I propose you put in Studebaker? V Player 1: Hey, shut up, pointdexter! V Player 2: Like you can play QB like Scott does! Aide: Oh? Who says I can't. V Player 1: Shut up! Aide: Make me! Coach (Angry): SHUT UP, BOTH OF YOU! Meanwhile, Gary was recovering from all the stars, as he watches the 3rd and 7. It was a total disaster... Scott's passes were going nowhere, fast. ************************************************************************ Across the field, in the Oddish camp... Celadon coach: Well, we're going to win this! Dario: With Chopper, we're invincible! C Player 1: The crown is ours! C Player 2: Yeah, ours... heh, heh. ************************************************************************ Meanwhile, on Tangerine Island's North beach... The tribe of boy-band wannabes gathers in front of the TV, watching the game and eating all the snacks that Alpo had arranged. Commentator: That's the 6th Geodude incompletion this afternoon. Play-by-play: Well, it's a wonder the score is still 7-0 Celadon City. Ash: This can't be happening! DJ: What do you mean? Greg: This is the best day of my life! Sean: Hmph... there goes another $20... ************************************************************************ 2:00 PM, Fire Blast Stadium The coach was visibly a happier person. The Geodude had fought back from a 17-3 down point to be down by only 20-17 with only a 1/2 -quarter to play. The tides have turned... Gary: Coach? Coach: Yeah, Gary? Gary: Let me in. Coach: Why? Gary: Because I'll get the job done. Coach: What makes you so sure? Gary: It's just a gut feeling. Coach: Gary, get out there. Gary: Thanks. I won't let you down. In the stands, Misty watches as Gary takes his place. Scott steps into the shotgun, and as the ball flies into the air, Gary lunges to catch it. Commentator: Amazing! Gary Oak has sent the ball 37 yards, all the way to the Oddish's 11-yard line! The crowd of Geodude fans cheers, as the 2-minute warning was sounded. The crowd on the Geodude side was now coming alive! Scott: Gary? Gary: Yeah, Scott? Scott: Remember that long pass AJ went over with you? Gary: Sure, of course. Scott: I want you to do it again. Gary: But it only works with AJ. Scott: Trust me... please. Gary: All right. The players line up, and as now the clock was down to less than a minute and a half. It is now do-or-die for the Geodude. Commentator: McGwire in the shotgun again... Wallace coming up to him, fast! The ball is out! It's up... and Oak has it in the end zone! Touchdown, Viridian City! All across the city of Viridian, people are jumping out of their couches. ************************************************************************ 2:05 PM, Fire Blast Stadium The game was over. The Viridian City Geodude are the new national champions! As fans for Celadon exit, the Viridian fans celebrate as the trophy was given out as the two teams shake hands... Scott meets up with Dario midfield. Scott: (Genially) Nice game. Dario didn't reply, just walked on. V Player 1 (Stunned): Good god that's rude. Gary: Ah, forget about him. As the handshakes conclude, the trophy was passed from player to player so they could lift up the crowning glory of their achievements of the past season. Dario (As he exits): I'll be back, you just watch me. ************************************************************************ 2:35 PM, Fire Blast Stadium Already, the lineup has formed for reporters to get into the press conference to announce the two MVPs for the game, which was (duh) Scott and Gary. As they enter with a bunch of reps from sponsors, the cameras go off, as the questioner takes his place. Questioner: Well, Gary, would you like to say a few words? Gary: Well, it's been a great season, we've done well, and it's now time to celebrate a bit. Thanks to everybody at Viridian High for making all this possible. Questioner: And Scott? Scott: Um, I guess it's been great, like Gary said. I know my friends in both Vancouver and Viridian should be watching... thanks to them all. Questioners: Reporters, any questions? Then, the wave began. Gary and Scott sweatdrop, and sighs. ************************************************************************ December 16th, 9:30 AM, Viridian High Dorms, 202 Flame Hall Gary woke up, and jolted awake...was it all a dream? Then, he looks around, and sees the MVP trophy sitting beside him. Gary: Well, I guess it wasn't a dream. Then, he looks at the clock, and... Gary: AAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I'm late for class! ************************************************************************ 11:30 AM, Viridian High Dorms, 211 International Hall Scott and Gary looked at each other, each holding onto cold sodas from the mini-fridge in the room...they've had 11 each already, and were quite hyper in celebration. Scott: Pretty cool for the school to give us the day off! Gary: You can say that again. Scott: I know we're never going to experience that again. Gary: I don't know, Scott... Scott: By the way, did we really win the national championship? The two of them giggled, and then burst out in laughter as they clanged the cans again. To be continued...
