"Roomies 3: Digital Frontier," written by Freedom Fighter It's time for Roomies yet again! I bet you all can't wait to see the cast of 16 anime characters this season! No more guessing! Coming from 12 different anime series, these characters will try to live with each other for six weeks, in hopes of winning a boatload of prizes. That includes the grand prize, which can be up to a million dollars! Male or female, young or old, veterans or rookies, happy-go-lucky or serious, this season's bunch is the most eclectic yet! Who has what it takes to go the distance? The time for talk is over! Let's head to the Digital World and begin, shall we? Disclaimer: I do not own any of the anime series, characters, or locations represented in this fanfic. I also do not own any of the reality show elements presented as well. ====== Day One Hino Shrine In front of the staircase leading up to the Hino Shrine, six girls and a guy were exchanging goodbyes. Two of the girls were about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime, but they weren't exactly sure where they were going. One thing's for sure... combined they had five suitcases to bring with them. Raye: We're going to miss you guys. Lita: Go and show them all what the Sailor Scouts are really made of! Mina: They'll do fine, Lita. They've got a great shot at this. Especially you, Amy. Amy: (blushes) I don't really think my chances are that great. Rini: No way, Amy! With you and me together, we'll be unstoppable. Serena: I can't believe they chose you over me! Rini: Well, they don't want somebody who's lazy like you. Serena: Lazy? I am not lazy! Lita: Give it up, Serena. I think it's great that Rini's going with Amy. At least they can take care of each other in Tokyo. Amy: (scratches her head) I don't know, Lita. I don't think we're going to be here in Tokyo. Amy reached into her left blouse pocket and pulled out a letter detailing the meeting place. Amy: (reading aloud) From Shibuya Station, take the westbound train. There will only be three trains that you may use. They depart at 11:45, 12:20, and 14:00. Only under extenuating circumstances will another train be provided if you miss these three times. Serena: So, what's the big rush? Why don't we have a big going away lunch? Raye: Serena! How can you be hungry already? Serena's stomach then grumbled, resulting in a tandem sweatdrop from the rest of the group. Amy: It's important that we're punctual. If we get there early enough, Rini and I might be able to share a room. It may be better than trying to room with a total stranger. Mina: Rooming with a total stranger isn't that bad. (dreamily) Especially if the guy's a hunk. Lita: (joining Mina in her reverie) I second that! Amy: I'm not doing this to get a boyfriend! I'm hoping to win so I can put it towards my tuition when I'm ready to go to college. Serena: (looking at Rini) Nice to know some of us have good intentions. Rini: You'd jump on the first guy you'd see, without a doubt! Serena: Why would I do that? Serena grabbed onto the right arm of the only guy in the group. The guy was actually Darien, her boyfriend and future husband. Serena: (sighs heavenly) Especially since I have Darien here. She leaned against him to rub her head against his arm... only to find that he was no longer standing there. Instead, he was kneeling down on the ground in front of Rini, rubbing his right hand through her hair gently. Darien: Now, you be good and stay out of trouble, okay? Rini: (happily) Don't worry! I will! Rini then wrapped her arms around Darien's neck and gave him a big hug. Of course, Serena was fuming at this. Serena: Get your hands off of him! He's mine! Rini: (letting go and turning towards Serena) I can put my hands around anyone I want! Mina: Come on you two! Is this the way you two want to remember each other the next six weeks? Suddenly, the sound of a horn beeping filled the air as a taxi cab pulled to a stop in front of the group. Amy: (giggles) I think it's time to go. We don't want to miss that first train. Amy and Rini received good luck hugs from the entire group before stuffing their bags in the trunk and piling into the back seat of the cab. Serena, Raye, Lita, and Mina: So long! Amy: Bye! Rini: I'll miss you all a lot! Darien: You two take care of yourselves, okay? The group waved their friends farewell as the taxi cab pulled away and headed towards the train station. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Amy Mizuno - Sailor Moon Super S] Amy: (CC) I'm Amy Mizuno, a high school freshman. I'm hoping to become a pediatrician once I graduate from college. I'm a little worried of what everyone's going to think of me. I wonder if I'm going to make any new friends. I hope so though. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Rini Tsukino - Sailor Moon Super S] Rini: (CC) It's going to be nice being away from Serena for awhile. I just hope we're going to have fun, wherever we're going. It's nice that Amy's with me, but I wouldn't mind seeing a few kids my age there to play with. ====== Meanwhile, on a train heading for Shibuya Station, a bounty hunter from nearly 70 years in the future is getting used to the packed trains of Tokyo on Monday mornings, despite the fact that rush hour has long past. His belongings... stuffed into two duffel bags lying on the tray above his seat. Jet: (sighs) At least I'm sitting down. (glancing around) How can people in this time period stand this? There was sure a lot that Faye didn't tell me about the early 21st Century. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Jet Black - Cowboy Bebop] Jet: (CC) The name's Jet Black. Personally, I don't even know why I agreed to do this. But after hearing how much Faye screwed up last season, and seeing as how Spike despises these kind of shows, I was the only logical choice. I'm very intrigued about the cash prize though. It would really help our budget if I could win it. The train pulls into a station, though not the one that Jet's looking for. He looks calmly out the window as a bunch of passengers get off, and then almost as many getting back on. He then noticed a woman get on board, tugging two large suitcases of her own. And no one was giving her any room to get into a comfortable position. Being a gentleman, Jet jumps up, grabs the woman's arm, and before she could object, pushed her into the seat he had been sitting in. Woman: Hey! What do you think you're doing? Jet: You looked like you needed a little help. I think it's shameful that people around here are so disrespectful. Jet then took the woman's suitcases and lifted them up onto the rack above them. Woman: (smiles) Thank you. You're not from around here, are you? Jet: Afraid not. Woman: (begins to stand up) Here... you can have your seat back. Jet: (shaking his head) That's okay. You need it more than I do. Especially after carrying those suitcases of yours. The doors finally close and the train begins to move towards the next station. Woman: (sits back down) I guess I could use the rest. Jet: Say... you wouldn't be happening to be heading for Shibuya Station, would you? Woman: Yes, I am. But why do you want to know? Jet: I know this is a long shot... but are you competing in that Roomies show? Woman: (blinks her eyes) How did you know? Jet: Because that's where I'm going too. (extends his hand out in a gesture of friendship) The name's Jet. Pleased to meet you! The woman smiles and extends her hand to shake with Jet's. Woman: I'm Tally Onodera. The pleasure's all mine, Jet. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Tally Onodera - Digimon Tamers] Tally: (CC) My name is Tally Onodera, and I work for the government. On what, I can't tell you. Still, I'm surprised I got chosen to be a part of this. Riley's usually the one who gets all the attention in our office. But if this is my opportunity to break out, then by all means, I'll take it! ====== Tokyo International Airport In one of the waiting lounges in the 'International Arrivals and Departures' portion of the airport, a man dressed like a punk is sitting down. At his feet is a suitcase and a large duffel bag of his own. With an American flag bandanna tied to his head, he sure was getting a lot of attention from the locals. Not that he cared about it anyway. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: 'Bandit' Keith Howard - Yu-Gi-Oh!] Keith: (CC) It may not be a game of Duel Monsters, but I bet this game is filled with wusses. That grand prize should be easy pickings for me. After all, no one messes with Bandit Keith and gets away with it. They'll all wish they stayed home once they meet me! Keith glanced at a clock on the wall and noted that it was 11:11. He tapped his foot impatiently as he waited... waited for someone to arrive and accompany him to Shibuya Station. Keith: (to the camera) I'm supposed to be waiting for some woman who's also coming from the U.S. It'll be good to have a fellow American here. (twiddling his fingers) Maybe I can get her to work for me. ====== Shibuya Station Jet and Tally got off of the train with what seemed like a hundred people. Making their way through the turnstiles while carrying their luggage, they spot a sign taped to the wall next to one of the nearby elevators. It read 'R3 Cast.' Tally: Think that's it? Jet: (shrugs) Beats me. You're the one who knows more about this place than I do. Tally: I guess we can take a chance. After all, we still have time until the first train leaves. We just have to find where it's departing from. The two of them reach the elevator. The doors open before them, prompting the two to step in. Jet: (examining the control panel) Which floor? Tally: I don't know. Just pick one. Before Jet could do that, the elevator doors begin to close. Once they are closed, the elevator begins to move downward... even though Jet had yet to push a button. Tally: What's going on? Jet: The hell I know! They both looked up to the floor counter as it went from 2 to 1 to B1 to B2... and then continuing on to the left, even though there were no more floors being counted. Jet: This is getting really freaky! Tally: I thought I was going to get away from all the freaky stuff! ====== At the street entrance to Shibuya Station A young boy with an unusual large, spiky haircut emerges from the back of a taxi cab. He waits for the driver to open the trunk and pull out his lone suitcase. After paying the driver, the boy heads into the station, searching for the ticket desk. All the while, he pushes his suitcase, which has wheels built into the bottom of it. But probably the weirdest thing about him was the weird object that was attached to the necklace hanging around his neck. The Millennium Puzzle. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Yugi Mutou - Yu-Gi-Oh!] Yugi: (CC) This is a very new adventure for me. I'm so used to dueling and playing games, so this will be a challenge for me. I just hope I'm not outwitted or outpowered by the other contestants. If all else fails, I have the spirit of the Millennium Puzzle with me, as well as the well-wishes of my friends. Yugi reaches the ticket desk and asks for information on where to go next. ====== Jet: Something's not right here! Tally: We're going to die... I just know it! Tally's worries seemed to be profound, as the elevator car gained speed. But they had been dropping for a long time, and surprisingly there was no end in sight. Then, without warning, the car hit bottom, smashing to a halt as it had reached the bottom of the shaft. *************** The doors of the elevator car opened normally. The car seemed to be undamaged, and Jet and Tally were unharmed as well... though the sudden stop had taken a lot out of them. Jet: (helping Tally to her feet) That was a wild ride. Tally: I'll say. Where are we anyway? The two of them stepped out of the car. They were standing on a large circular platform surrounded by tracks that went in every direction. Tally: How can there be train tracks all the way down here? Jet: We don't even know how far down here we are. They noticed that there was only one train waiting. It was pointing straight ahead, and the doors were open. Tally turned around and noticed a clock just above the elevator doors. Tally: It's half past eleven. We've got fifteen minutes. Jet and Tally retrieve their bags from the elevator car and start walking towards the train itself. Tally: This must be a dream. Either that, or we're dead. Jet: I don't know about that. I still feel alive. Well, as alive as a person at my age can be. Entering one of the cars, they found a note taped to one of the seats. After lifting their bags/suitcases into the overhead compartments, Tally lifts the note up and reads it aloud. Tally: Welcome! If you are reading this message, then you must be a cast member for Roomies 3. You may sit anywhere on the train you wish, as you will be the only passengers. Trains depart at 11:45, 12:20, and 14:00, on the dot. Further instructions will be given once you arrive at your destination. Jet: Our destination? Where exactly is that? Tally: It doesn't say. Jet: First, a run away elevator car, and now this? Just where are we having this game anyway? Tally: I guess we'll have to stick around and find out. Unless you want to get back on the elevator. Jet: How do we know if it even works anymore? Unknown to them, the elevator car that had brought them down was already heading back up to the real world to fetch another passenger. ====== Upstairs by the elevator doors, Yugi is waiting for the car to return. Rini: (off-screen) There! That's the one! Yugi turned around, wondering if the girl he had just heard yelling was talking about him. Amy and Rini were moving toward them rather slowly, trying not to collapse under the weight of their suitcases. Yugi: Do you girls need help? Amy: (looking at Yugi) Certainly. Walking over, Yugi takes one suitcase from each of them. Together, the trio manages to get over to the elevator car before their arms gave way. Yugi: (putting the suitcases down) No offense, but what have you girls got in here? Amy: (rubbing the back of her head sheepishly) I guess we packed a little too much. Rini: (curtsying) My name's Rini. Yugi: I'm Yugi. Yugi Mutou. Amy: And I'm Amy Mizuno. (notices the wheels on Yugi's suitcase) I should've thought of buying one of those. It might have made carrying these things easier. Yugi: Yeah. It's just too bad you can't get anyone to carry them for you. Amy: I think we can manage, Yugi. After all, we made it this far without any help. Yugi: I guess you're right. Rini: (happily) The elevator's here! Sure enough, the doors to the elevator car were opening. The three of them pushed, carried, and dragged their bags inside. ====== Two minutes and forty seconds later... The elevator doors open in the underground terminal. Amy, Yugi, and Rini are picking themselves off the floor after surviving their seemingly fatal drop. Amy: (breathing heavily) That was a close one. Yugi: I can't believe we're still alive. Rini: (feeling a bit dizzy) Let's just not do that again. After gathering themselves, they made their way over to the awaiting train. And in one of the cars... Jet: (looking out the window) We've got company. Tally: About time? Who is it? Jet: (getting up) Looks like a bunch of kids to me. Jet and Tally get out of the car to greet the newcomers and help them with their luggage. Jet: (taking two of Amy's suitcases from her) Allow me. Amy: Why, thank you! Tally: (reaching for Rini's suitcases) Here, let me take those. Rini happily hands hers over. Rini: You're right, Amy. We shouldn't have brought so much. Amy: At least we'll get a break now. Yugi: I'll say. We'll need one after that last wild ride. ====== East Shinjuku Station A brown-haired male teenager is busy examining a route map, trying to figure out the best way to get to Shibuya Station. He had a military backpack strapped to his back, but he didn't seem to mind all the extra weight. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Trowa Barton - Gundam Wing] Trowa: (CC) Trowa Barton, pilot of Gundam Heavyarms. After Duo won this last season, I didn't think it would be worth it coming out here. But Duo told me about the wonderful things he experienced in this strange world. It would be nice to get away from the guys for awhile and meet some new people. I just hope no one will be there to spoil it. After finally figuring out his route, he tries to punch it into the automated ticket dispenser in front of him. But now he's confused about how to do that. Luckily, a teenage girl with brown hair as well walked up, carrying two bags of luggage as best as she could. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Nabiki Tendo - Ranma 1/2] Nabiki: (CC) I'm Nabiki, the middle Tendo sister. You know, I've been lucky enough to be involved in one of these reality shows before. But never as a contestant. I'm interested to see how this will turn out... and if I can make any money off of anyone in the process. Trowa: (turning towards Nabiki) Excuse me, but I'm not from around here. Could you tell me how to punch a ticket to get from here to Shibuya Station? Nabiki: You're going to Shibuya? Me too! Here, I'll show you... but it's gonna cost you. Trowa: Cost me? Nabiki: All you have to do is pay for my ticket. Trowa glances up at a nearby clock, which reads 11:40. He sighs and decides to give in to Nabiki's request. Trowa: Okay, fine. As long as I don't miss my 12:20 from Shibuya. Nabiki went to work and punched in the correct fare for their trip. Trowa watched her carefully, as he wanted to make sure he knew how to do it should he have to go out somewhere alone. ====== Amy, Jet, Rini, Tally, and Yugi were all sitting in the same car, waiting to see if anyone else was going to arrive. Suddenly, the doors close automatically as the train begins to move. Trailmon: Whoo whoo! All aboard! Whoo whoo! The train, which we now see is a Trailmon, begins to pull out of the station. Jet: About time. The others nodded in agreement. Amy: Do any of you find it strange that we have no idea where this train is going? Tally: It does spook me a little. I mean, after that elevator ride, who knows what to expect next? Amy: (nods) And I don't remember a station ever existing down here. Yugi: Let's just hope we got on the right train. Jet: It has to be. It was the only one down here. As the train picks up speed, the five passengers begin to feel the car shake ever so slightly. Rini: What's going on? Tally: The tracks must be rusty and loose down here. That's why we're shaking so much. Amy: This doesn't feel like any shaking I'm used to on a train. Yugi: Me neither! Jet: Why couldn't we have just flown there? This feels like a death trap! Soon, the train goes nearly vertical, as the five passengers tumble towards the back of the car. The Trailmon has come out of the tunnel and now the group can see clear blue skies out their window. Then, the Trailmon follows the tracks and gets itself back to a normal horizontal rail, allowing the passengers to finally get back to their feet. Yugi: Never thought a ride to the mansion would be this rough. Jet: (holding his head) They should really put seatbelts in this thing. ====== A few minutes later, the Trailmon pulls into Flame Terminal, a Trailmon station located in the heart of the Digital World. Though none of the passengers knew that they were no longer in their own world yet. Trailmon: Whoo whoo! End of the line! Everybody out! Gathering their belongings, the group slowly makes their way out of the Trailmon. Yugi is the first to step onto the platform with his things. Yugi: Just where are we? Trailmon: You're at Flame Terminal, kid. Rini: (jumping out) Who said that? Yugi: I don't know. Trailmon: I did. Yugi: (gasps) No way! The train is actually talking! Trailmon: You think my mouth is just here for design? Get outta here! Tally: (getting off the Trailmon) Just what are you anyway? Amy: (right behind her) And what is this place? Trailmon: The name's Worm. I'm a Trailmon. And you're at Flame Terminal, in the heart of the Digital World. Tally: (gasped) What? You mean we're in the Digital World? Jet: (exiting the car) The Digital World? Tally: (looking at Jet) It's a world full of creatures called Digital Monsters. They're all made up of computer data and are the result of a research experiment a number of years ago. Yugi: Digital Monsters? Jet: You expect us to believe that? Amy: If what you're saying is true, then how can we physically be here? If these monsters are made up completely of data, then that means we must be in a computer of some sort. But how is that possible? Tally: It's hard to explain. Jet: Perhaps you should start by telling us everything you know of this world, Tally. Worm: Look, I'd love to stay and chat with you guys, but I've got a schedule to keep! Whoo whoo! Worm begins to pull out of the station backwards. Rini: Wait! How do we get back home? Worm: (yelling back) How should I know? I'm not the one paying for your tickets... With that, Worm disappears from sight, heading back towards where he came from. Police Officer: (off-screen) Over here! The group of five look across the platform to the far end, where they see a teal-haired woman in a Galaxy Police uniform waving to them. [Roomies 2 Finalist: Kiyone Makibi - Tenchi Muyo!] Jet: Anybody know who that is? Amy: I think she's waving at us. Yugi: I think she wants us to follow her. Jet: I guess we have no choice. She might know this place better than we do. The group picks up their bags and makes their way from platform to platform... which took awhile because there were no walkways between them... until they were all standing in front of Kiyone. Kiyone: Greetings everyone. I'm Kiyone Makibi, and you may remember from last season's Roomies in Okayama. I finished in the Final Four. Tally: Really? Are you the host? Kiyone: Nope. But I'm here as your ambassador to the Digital World. Tally: (gasps) So we're really in the Digital World? Kiyone: Yep. Anyway, we have to wait for everyone else to get here, so if you'll follow me please. Kiyone heads out of the train station as the first five new Roomies follow, towing their belongings with them. ********** Kiyone leads them to a tent that had been propped up in a Digimon village. Inside the tent was a buffet of sorts, featuring rice, shrimp, sushi, ramen noodles, and whole lot of other assorted foods. Kiyone: You may put your bags on the side for now. Feel free to enjoy some free lunch from us, on the house. Jet: Quite the spread you've got here. Kiyone: Thank you. But I advise you get started. We don't know if we'll have enough food for everyone... and this is the only handout we're giving you in this competition. The five of them put their stuff aside and start gathering around the buffet table. ====== Tokyo International Airport Keith was still waiting for his traveling partner to arrive so that they could head to Shibuya Station. At a quarter to twelve, she finally arrived, pulling a large bag of luggage behind her. The curvaceous black-haired woman smiled as she headed towards him. Keith: (standing up) You the dame from Chicago? Rally? Rally: Yes. And you must be Keith, right? Keith: That's 'Bandit' Keith to you. Rally: You wouldn't happen to have a bounty on your head, would you? Keith: Bounty? Look, I'm not some rogue running from the law. I'm 'Bandit' Keith, the American Duel Monsters champion! Rally: (thinking for a second) 'Bandit' Keith... I knew I heard that name before somewhere. So you're America's champion, huh? Keith: And I intend to keep it that way! Now, let's go! Rally: Hey, don't explode on me! I'm not hear to play Duel Monsters. I'm here to win Roomies. Nothing else. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Rally Vincent - Gunsmith Cats] Rally: (CC) Never been to Japan before. Anyway, I'm Rally Vincent. Bounty hunter from Chicago, Illinois. I'm always looking for ways to improve the gun shop, and although I'm not after a bounty here, I think things will work out just the same. I'm not going to let anyone mess with me. ====== On the other side of the airport, in the 'Japan Arrivals and Departures' section, two individuals were searching for each other through the busy crowd, carrying their luggage bags with them... and visibly struggling with them. Little did they know that when they meet, things weren't going to exactly be kosher. On one end, a red-haired woman with a gym badge pinned to her shirt. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Whitney Emerson - Pokémon: Johto League Champions] Whitney: (CC) Hello all! I'm Whitney, the Goldenrod City gym leader! You may remember me as the one who helped Tai out all the way back in the first season. Now, I'm here as a contestant. Being the first non-lead gym leader in this game will be tough on me. I don't know really what to expect. On the other, a blue-haired man who was easily identified by the big red R on his shirt. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: James Morgan - Pokémon: Master Quest] James: (CC) I'm James of Team Rocket! And the other Roomies better prepare for trouble! After how unfairly Jessie was treated last time, I'm here for revenge! No one makes a fool of Team Rocket and gets away with it! Both Whitney and James push their way through the crowd, making their way to the predetermined meeting place. They end up arriving there simultaneously, only then noticing each other as they broke through the crowd. Whitney: It's you again! James: (taken aback) What are you doing here? Whitney: What do you want from me now? If you're up to no good... James: I have a perfectly good reason to be here! I'm going to be on Roomies! Whitney: You? How did you get on the show? James: I got on like everyone else! Whitney: You'd better watch your step, 'cause I'm not going to let you bamboozle anyone in the mansion! James: What? You mean you're in it too? Whitney: I need the money to help fund my gym's expansion. A much better reason to be here than yours, I bet. James: So what? I'm here for my own personal gain and for some revenge! I'll show how great Team Rocket is! Whitney: (rolls her eyes) Yeah, whatever. Let's just get to Shibuya Station so we can meet up with the others. ====== Shibuya Station, Deep Basement Level Worm was already waiting for a new bunch of passengers, and two were already aboard. One was a young purple-haired boy, while the other was a black- haired teenage male. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Trunks Briefs - Dragonball Z] Trunks: (CC) The name's Trunks. You know, I've been watching everyone who's tried these kinds of shows before. I'm sure I can do a whole lot better than they did. I'm a Super Saiyan, after all. I bet I'll be the strongest person there. This ought to be a cinch! [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Yusuke Urameshi - Yu-Yu Hakusho] Yusuke: (CC) I'm Yusuke Urameshi, Spirit Detective. This is so stupid! The only reason I agreed to this is because Botan thinks there's some type of evil spirit that will ruin the games. I really don't care much about any of the other contestants. But then again, maybe I would prefer that they mess with me. It'll give me an excuse to punch someone's lights out. Trunks: Oh boy! I can't wait to get there! Yusuke: Save your breath. For you this might be a vacation, but for me this is just work. Suddenly, they spot two individuals heading towards them. It happens to be Trowa and Nabiki. Trowa: This is the correct train, right? Yusuke: (looking away) If you're heading to Dullsville, then yes. Nabiki: Someone's not pleased to be here. Yusuke: (yelling at her) Mind your own business! Trowa: Hey! There's no need for that. Yusuke: Says who? Nabiki: I was just making a comment of the obvious! You need to lighten up! Trowa: She's right. Yusuke: So? Why are you guys bothering me anyway? I don't need to talk to you! Trowa: And you shouldn't have yelled at Nabiki here! As Yusuke, Trowa, and Nabiki got into a small argument, Trunks shook his head in disgrace. Trunks: Why do teenagers always have to be so moody? ====== Not too soon after that, Worm made his second trip to the Digiworld. Along with Trunks, Yusuke, Trowa, and Nabiki, Keith and Rally had also managed to make the train just in time. Worm pulls into Flame Terminal for the second time. As the six passengers disembark, Kiyone greets them as she did before. Soon enough, they were with the five aforementioned arrivees, getting to know them as best as they could. ====== Shibuya Station A train pulls into the station at 12:20 exactly. Out of it comes a brown- haired woman with a suitcase in hand. She immediately spotted the sign by the elevator and headed off in that direction. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Haruka Urashima - Love Hina] Haruka: (CC) Haruka Urashima, owner of the Hinata Tea House. After my nephew Keitaro had so much fun in Okayama, I decided to give it a try. After all, the Hinata Apartments need all the money it can get to stay open so the girls have a place to live. The elevator doors open as Haruka steps in with her luggage, unaware of what's going to happen next. ====== Tokyo International Airport Pushing a cart with a large bag on it, a pink hedgehog wearing a red dress caught almost everyone's eyes as she made her way outside, where she could catch a cab to Shibuya Station. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Amy Rose - Sonic Adventure] Amy: (CC) I'm Amy Rose! I can't believe I'm actually in another universe, competing on a big-name reality series. I hope you're watching Sonic! I'm doing this all for you! Amy is now standing outside as she flags down a taxi. Amy: I hope the city of Tokyo is as wonderful as I've heard. After the driver loads Amy's bags into the trunk, she gets into the back seat. Amy: Shibuya Train Station, please! And step on it! ====== Jiyuugoaka Station Whitney and James didn't seem to be too happy with each other as they once again got off at the wrong station. They have been lucky so far to remember to take their luggage with them... but all of the traveling has worn them down. James: I can't believe how lousy you are with directions! Whitney: Maybe, but I don't see you helping any! Heading over to the subway train map, they tried to figure out how much further away they were. Whitney: Okay, we're here at, uh, Jiyugoku or whatever. And we have to get to Shibuya, right? James: It's right there. Two stops away on that line. Young Boy: Excuse me, I'm in a rush here! A brown-haired boy wearing his goggles strapped over his hat pushes past Whitney and James and to the ticket dispenser. Whitney: People are so pushy around here. James: Like you? Whitney: (giving James the evil eye) You're really asking for it, aren't you? The boy gets his ticket, pushes right back through Whitney and James, and gets back to his lone suitcase as he runs off to catch the next train. [Roomies 3 Cast Member: Takuya Kanbara - Digimon Frontier] Takuya: (CC) The name's Takuya, and it's great we've finally got someone from Frontier in a reality show. Well, it's not the first time. I thought that if Zoe could do well in a detective show, maybe then I can get my claim to fame through a top-notch show like Roomies. But I find it very strange that I don't know where from Shibuya I'm going. Making his way up the stairs to the train platform, he manages to get on board the train that had just pulled in just as it was leaving. And as it left, Whitney and James come running up the stairs. Whitney: Wait! James: Don't forget about us! One of the station's timekeepers walks by the duo, as Whitney decides to stop him. Whitney: Pardon me, but when's the next train for Shibuya Station? Timekeeper: 25 minutes from now, miss. James: (whining) 25 minutes? Whitney: (to James) Don't panic! We can make it there before two. James: And if we don't, it's all your fault! ====== Shibuya Station Down in the underground terminal, at around 1:20 p.m., Takuya and Amy Rose, having met by the elevator, emerge from the central car. Takuya: (rubbing his head) Gee, I'll never get used to that. Amy: (rubbing her backside) How can you ever get used to landing on your butt? The two bring their belongings out and towards the Trailmon waiting for them. Takuya: (excitedly) I knew it! We're going to the Digiworld! Amy: The Digiworld? What's that? Takuya: I'll explain later. Come on! (yelling as he runs) Worm, it's me! Worm: You again? Choo choo... what brings you here? Takuya: Going to the Digiworld, I take it? Haruka: (from inside) Who's there? Takuya and Amy turned to see Haruka looking out the window of the central car. Haruka: You two with the Roomies cast? Takuya: Yep, that's us! And we're going to the Digiworld! Haruka: Digiworld, huh? Never heard of it. Amy: What's in this Digiworld anyway? Takuya: You'll see. Haruka came out and helped Takuya and Amy get their stuff aboard. Haruka: You know, I was getting worried. I thought that I was the last person and that everyone was already waiting for us. Amy: I guess we're the last ones now. Takuya: (wiping the sweat off of his forehead) I didn't think I was going to make it, to tell you the truth. ====== Amy: So that's what the place is like? Haruka: Sounds like a fairy tale to me. Takuya: It really exists! You'll see! Just wait 'til we get there! Haruka: (looking at her watch) Speaking of which, we should be leaving any minute now. Takuya: I guess we're the last three. I just hope they haven't become too impatient waiting for us. Suddenly, they hear the elevator car crash down onto their level once more. Amy: What was that? Takuya: It's the elevator... I think someone's here. Haruka steps off the train and sees James and Whitney crawl out of the elevator car, desperately trying to gather themselves. Amy: (yelling out the window) If you two are coming, you'd better hurry! The train leaves in less than two minutes! Takuya: (doing the same) Yeah... wha? It's the same guys I ran into at the station! Haruka, Takuya, and Amy hop out and help the two Pokémon trainers get their stuff onboard in time, as Worm begins to pull out. Worm: Whoo whoo! All aboard! Next stop... the Digital World! Inside, as the train begins to pull around. Whitney: Thanks for the help. We were going all around the city, trying to find the right station... James: (interrupting her as he pointed at Takuya) You! The boy that bumped into us at Girogook Station! Whitney: Actually, it was Jiyugoku Station. Takuya: (sweatdrops) It's Jiyuugoaka. Ji-yuu-goaka. James and Whitney: Oh. Haruka: You two were cutting it quite close. You should've asked someone for directions. Whitney: We probably should have. I didn't know the city as well as I thought. James: That's an understatement. Whitney: If you had gotten us to the right station in the first place, then I would have allowed that comment of yours. But as things stand, you didn't help me one bit! James: (ignoring Whitney and jumping in fright at seeing Amy) What's that? Amy: I'm not a that, I'm a hedgehog! Amy Rose is the name! Whitney: You mean you can actually speak human? Amy: I guess. I'm not from this dimension. Takuya: You won't believe that I thought she was a Digimon at first. Whitney and James: A... Digimon? Takuya: (groans) Man, is everyone around here brain dead? How can you not have heard of Digimon? James: (pointing at Amy) I thought she was a new type of Pokémon. Whitney: (examining Amy) Very stylish though. I love the red dress. Amy: Thanks! Takuya: Well, I think we'd better take our seats. The ride's gonna get bumpy. Whitney: What do you mean by bumpy? ====== Flame Terminal Worm pulls into the terminal for the last time. Takuya gets out first, happy to be back in the Digiworld. After a seemingly carefree Amy and a serious looking Haruka get out with their belongings, Whitney and James exit, both trying their best to keep their stomachs in. Whitney: The next time someone asks me to ride a roller coaster with them, I'll decline. James: I've never been so loopy in my life. Kiyone: (walking up to them) Welcome to Flame Terminal! Please follow me! Picking up their stuff, Takuya, Amy, and Haruka follow. Whitney is about to do the same, but finds that she's unable to move because James has his arms wrapped around her waist. And he's shaking in fear. James: Why did she have to be a cop? Whitney: (prying James off) She's not the one you'll be worrying about if you don't get your arms off of me! ====== As the sixteen Roomies finally meet each other in person, they are unaware that after all of the wildness they've been through so far... It's only begun... = = = = = = = = = = Tenchi: (VO) 16 contestants from 12 anime shows. 42 days living by themselves in the wild Digital World. (A log cabin appears in the background.) Tenchi: (VO) These men and women are... Roomies! (End theme song, with a picture of all 16 contestants standing with Flame Terminal behind them in the background.) = = = = = = = = = = Episode 1 - Tests of Endurance (01.14.03) Day One After enjoying a hefty lunch, the newest group of Roomies are taking some time to get to know each other. Amy Rose seems to be gathering the most attention due to the fact that she was the only non-human there. Rini: You're really a hedgehog? Amy R.: Yes. And I love being one! Whitney: It must be amazing to live with other animals. Amy R.: Yeah. You get used to it. Meanwhile, the two bounty hunters were getting friendly... Rally: You mean you're a bounty hunter too? Jet: We call ourselves cowboys, but technically, yes. Rally: (looking at him weirdly) Aren't you a little old to be a bounty hunter? Jet: (giving Rally the once over) Aren't you a little young? Rally: (not wanting to talk about her age) Never mind. And the two Duel Monster players were talking things out as well... Keith: You'd better watch your step. I'm not going to let you get in my way! Yugi: I'll be keeping an eye on you too! You better not try to pull any tricks on anyone! Keith: (walking away) Wouldn't dream of it, squirt. As the conversations continue, they are interrupted by the show's host. [Roomies 3 Host: Tenchi Masaki - Tenchi Muyo] Tenchi: Hello! Can I have everyone's attention? The whole group stops their chatting and turns towards Tenchi. Tenchi: Good. Welcome everybody! My name is Tenchi Masaki, and I'm your host for Roomies this season. As you may have realized, we are no longer in the real world, but in a data-filled dimension known as the Digital World. As such, things will be somewhat different from past seasons. You'll find out all of these surprises in due time, but first we have some things to take care of. Please grab your belongings and follow me. The 16 Roomies do as they are told and head outside. They gather in front of Flame Terminal, where Worm is still waiting for them. As they form a straight line in front of Tenchi, Kiyone comes towards them. And her partner, Mihoshi Kuramitsu, is pulling a cart with 16 duffel bags in their direction. Each of the bags is black with their names on the side painted in sky blue. Mihoshi: I'm here Tenchi and Kiyone, just like you said. Tenchi: (to the Roomies) You've all already met Kiyone, and this is her partner Mihoshi. And as you see, Mihoshi has brought with her 16 duffel bags... one for each of you. Now, because of the living spaces you'll be in this time around, there won't be a whole lot of room for storage. A few of the Roomies, particularly most of the girls, are getting nervous. Tenchi: When I give the signal, find the bag with your name on it. You will have five minutes to move whatever you can from all of the luggage bags you brought into your own duffel bag. Whitney: I can't do that! I brought a whole lot of stuff! Tally: Me too! Tenchi: (ignoring their pleas) The rules are simple. Whatever is in your duffel bag after five minutes can stay with you here in the Digiworld. The bag must be able to close completely. Choose your belongings carefully, because whatever is not in the bags will go back to the real world with Kiyone and Mihoshi. They will put them in storage, and you will not see them until you return to the real world, six weeks from now. Jet: This shouldn't be a problem at all. Tenchi: The following is prohibited and you cannot bring with you. Any type of food or drink, weapons, and all electronic devices except for music players and cellular phones, one each per person. Also, I would recommend bringing several changes of clothes, because although there will be a place to wash them, you will not be allowed to return to the real world at any time during the game. So make sure you choose wisely. Keith: Yeah yeah, stop with the explainin' and get to it already! Nabiki: (in a panic) Wait a minute... I don't know what to keep yet! Tenchi: Your five minutes begin now. Immediately, everyone rushes over to the cart and finds the duffel bag with their name on it. Clothes, toys, and other things are thrown about as they try to decide what to keep. ====== Five minutes later... Tenchi: Three, two, one... time's up! Everyone stop where they are! Activity ceases amongst the Roomies. Tenchi: Please zip up your duffel bags if you haven't already. If you have anything in your hands right now, you can still put it in provided that there's still room in your bag for it. Otherwise, please gather the rest of your things and put them on the cart. After a few more minutes, all of the Roomies have complied with Tenchi's request. Mihoshi and Kiyone wheel the cart off towards Worm. Tenchi: Okay, while Mihoshi and Kiyone are taking care of that, it's time for your first challenge. We're not beating around the bush this time... it's straight to the competition. And we've got a prize challenge. Tenchi pulls out a map of Flame Village and shows it to the group. Tenchi: This is a map of the village. On it are three green X's and a red X's. The red X is marked here, at home base, and the three green X's denote items that you as a team must pick up. Your job, as teams of four, is to go to these green X's, pick up the bundle at each location and then return here. The first two teams do so will receive a special prize, which I'll reveal at the end of the competition. Tenchi took out three more maps, which are rolled up and held like that by rubber bands, and prepared to hand them out. Tenchi: For this challenge, it'll be a game of pride. This season, four shows have two representatives. Each pair from the same show will team up along with two of the other competitors at random to form a team. We have also chosen the team captains at random. The captains for this team are James, Tally, Amy, and Yugi. Amy M. and Amy R.: Which one? Tenchi: Um... Amy M. I forgot we had two people with the same first name this season. Anyway, captains, please come up and get your maps. The names of the members of your team are listed on the top of your map. ====== [Prize Challenge 1: Supply Hunt] [Team Assignments: - Poké: James, Whitney, Nabiki, Trowa - Digi: Tally, Takuya, Yusuke, Amy R. - Moon: Amy M., Rini, Trunks, Jet - Yu-Gi: Yugi, Keith, Rally, Haruka] The teams discuss their strategy as they decide what to do. After a few minutes, they gather at the starting line. Tenchi: A few things I'd like to note before we begin. We want this to be a fair competition, so anyone caught interfering with the progress of another team will be disqualified. Also, the team must stay together at all times. You cannot split up to cover all three points at once. James: (snaps his fingers) That's not fair! Whitney: Don't give away our strategy, you dolt! Keith: Too late for that, chumps! Tenchi: Anyway, a team member is only allowed to carry one bundle. There are three, so someone will come back without one in hand. And last but not least, you can go to the checkpoints in any order you want. I think that's all. Trunks: (rolls his eyes) Finally. Tenchi: (raises his hand) On your mark, get set, go! The four teams depart. The Poké and Moon teams head off in one direction, while the Yu-Gi and Digi teams head off in another. ====== Team Yu-Gi runs towards the closest checkpoint, where they find pairs of rolled-up sleeping bags waiting for them. One pair has a bandanna wrapped around it that has the Millennium Puzzle on it. Yugi: I guess this is ours. Keith: (smiles) I'll take this one. Rally: (stopping him) I don't think so! What if we find something heavier at one of the other checkpoints? You'll have to carry that. Haruka: She's right, you know. Yugi: Sounds fair enough. Keith: Hey! You can't tell me what to do! Yugi: We're on a team, Keith! Either we work together to win, or we all lose! Keith thinks for a minute, and then gives in. Keith: Fine. But this is the only time I'm doing this. Haruka: (looking back as Digi team arrives) I guess I'll take it. Haruka does her best to cradle them under her armpits as the group moves on, with Yugi looking at the map. The Digi team arrives on the scene just as the Yu-Gi Team leaves. Tally: Takuya, get the sleeping bags! Takuya follows Tally's order without question, picking up the bags with the face of Guilmon on it as the team quickly chases after Team Yu-Gi. ====== James seems to be looking around for something, but so far Team Poké is striking out. James: Where is it? Whitney: (snatches the map from him) Give me that! Let me see! James: Hey! I'm the team leader! You're supposed to do what I say! Whitney: (points to her right) There's one this way! Let's go! Whitney runs off, with Nabiki and Trowa right behind her. James: Wait for me! ====== At another checkpoint, Team Moon has sprinted all the way to the outskirts of the village. There, they find four large crates that are propped up on dollies. Amy M.: I guess we're supposed to take a crate. She finds the one with the symbol of the Moon on its bandanna and tries to push it. Unfortunately, she's much too weak to even get it to budge. Amy M.: It's way too heavy to move. Trunks: Let me try. Trunks floats up into the air so that he can see, and then he easily pushes the crate. Trunks: Piece of cake! But then Trunks found his three teammates staring at him, with their mouths hanging wide open. Trunks: Oops... forgot about the whole 'don't show your powers' thing. ====== [Challenge Fast Forward - Current Scores: Poké 0, Digi 1, Moon 1, Yu-Gi 1] Team Yu-Gi and Team Digi arrive neck-and-neck at the middle checkpoint, where a tent building kit awaits them. Yusuke quickly gathers it up for Team Digi as he leads his team to the third checkpoint. Team Yu-Gi is arguing, as Keith again wants to carry it, but Haruka thinks Rally should get it. As they continue to argue, Team Poké arrives on the scene. Without hesitation, Trowa picks it the tent kit. They then look at the map and try to figure out where to go next as Team Yu-Gi finally decides to have Rally get the kit. Both teams split the scene. Two minutes later, Team Moon arrives at the center checkpoint. Jet takes a hold of the tent kit and the team runs off. Over at the west checkpoint, Team Digi arrives at the crates. Tally decides to take the crates rather Amy Rose, but finds that she is having a hard time doing it. Yusuke puts down the tent kit and tries to push the dolly. He's managing slightly better, but it's still rather slow. They decide to switch and have Tally carry the tent kit while Yusuke pushes the crate. [Time Elapsed: 7:00 - Current Scores: Poké 1, Digi 3, Moon 2, Yu-Gi 2] [End Challenge Fast Forward] ====== Team Poké has gotten themselves lost in the village as they wander around and try to find another checkpoint. Whitney is leading them, but in circles. They finally come out at a checkpoint, but there's nothing there. And then they realize the obvious. Trowa: We've already been here. We've been going around in circles. Nabiki: Girl, you sure you know what you're doing? James: She's trying to sabotage us! She's the Mole! Whitney: That's the wrong show, nitwit. Trowa: I can't believe this. James kicks up dirt in disgust as Nabiki takes the map from Whitney and tries to figure out where they are. James: (CC) She's doing this to me on purpose! I know it! Trowa: (CC) One person bad at directions is one thing... but two? And from the same show? It's just unbelievable. ********** Team Poké is on the verge of a breakdown as James believes Whitney is sabotaging them, Whitney thinks vice versa, and Nabiki and Trowa are trying to keep their heads and get them back on track. James: You can't figure out a single, solitary map? Whitney: I don't see you trying. Oh yeah, you did... and got us nowhere! At least I got us to one of the checkpoints. James: Only with my help. Whitney: That's not true! Trowa: (interrupting) Hey you two... if we hurry, we might still be able to catch everyone. We're not too far away from one of the checkpoints. Nabiki: I know the way. Follow me. ====== [Challenge Fast Forward - Current Scores: Poké 1, Digi 3, Moon 2, Yu-Gi 2] Team Yu-Gi reaches the boxes of crates, finding only two remaining. Keith reluctantly takes it, as he uses all of his strength to push it back to the start/finish line, with the rest of his team in front of him. At the same time, Team Moon reaches the east checkpoint, where they find the sleeping bags. Amy M. hands the map to Rini, then takes a hold of the two bags before the team takes off. Team Poké is not far behind, arriving on the scene thanks to Nabiki's great map reading skills, and hands the bags to Whitney for carry. She then leads them through the village, trying to reach the west checkpoint. [Time Elapsed: 9:25 - Current Scores: Poké 2, Digi 3, Moon 3, Yu-Gi 3] [End Challenge Fast Forward] ====== Tenchi waits at the start/finish line as Team Digi comes into view. Yusuke though is lagging behind, but Tally is hanging with him to push him on. Amy R. and Takuya cross the line, with the latter carrying the sleeping bags. As they cheer their teammates on, Amy R. spots Team Moon coming from another direction, with the entire team running together. Amy R.: (yelling) Another team's coming! Takuya: Hurry up guys! Tally and Yusuke go along as fast as they can, but they're not fast enough to beat the brute strength of Trunks and Jet and the fleet feet of Amy M. and Rini, as Team Moon gets their whole team across the line first. Tenchi: Team Moon, the winners! As Team Moon celebrates, Tally gets across the line, with Yusuke pushing the crate over it a second later. Tenchi: Second place, Team Digi! Team Digi also celebrates a little, but wonders what could have been as they share handshakes and hugs with Team Moon. 30 seconds later, Team Yu-Gi comes into view. Already noticing that two teams already there, Yugi, Rally, and Haruka slow their pace to allow Keith to catch up. Eventually, Team Yu-Gi does cross the line, all breathing heavily from the challenge. Everyone catches their breath as they wait for Team Poké to appear. It takes a few minutes, but eventually they can be seen on the horizon. Respectfully, most of the other competitors applaud for Team Poké as they make their final push towards the finish line. Nabiki leads the group, followed by Trowa with the tent kit, Whitney with the sleeping bags, and James last, pushing the crate as hard as he can. ====== Tenchi: What great performances all of you put on today. The big winners of this challenge are Team Moon and Team Digi. Congratulations! Applause from everyone, especially the winning teams, can be heard. Tenchi: Now, I bet you're all wondering what the prize is. How about one thousand dollars in spending money for the MVPs of the two winning teams? There's a lot of talk among the two winning teams as they try to decide who to give it to. They then tell Tenchi their choices. Tenchi: Okay, so a thousand dollars each will go to Trunks of Team Moon and Tally of Team Digi. Congratulations to both of you... you'll receive your prize after the competition is over, regardless of your final standing. But every one of you deserve applause for the wonderful job you did today. The group begins to applaud each other. Takuya: (CC) Tally did a great job leading us the whole way. It was just our luck that the other team had stronger people than we did. Amy M.: (CC) It was a surprise to find someone as young as Trunks to be very strong. As well as be able to fly. Something tells me I'll have to watch him very carefully. Tenchi: Now, I'm done with you for the day, but now it's time to move on to your campsite. Takuya: Campsite? Rally: I thought we were going to live in a mansion! Tenchi: (smirks) Where did you hear that from? I never said that, and it's definitely not in the invitation letter you received. Everyone looks at each other in surprise. Tenchi takes out another map and hands it to Amy M. Tenchi: (to Amy M.) Since you were the captain of the winning team, I'll leave the map in your hands. Bring all of your belongings and the supplies with you... you'll need 'em. And I'll see you tomorrow. Tenchi walks off, leaving the stunned group... well, stunned. Yusuke: (CC) This bites! I came here thinking I was going to live for six weeks in a mansion! Whitney: (CC) I can't sleep out here in the wild! Imagine all of the wild creatures out here. I can just imagine getting attacked. Haruka: (CC) This sure puts a twist on every thing. Oh well... so much for living in the lap of luxury. ====== The group gathers all their things and starts heading off for the campsite. Most of the guys and some of the stronger girls are responsible for carrying and pushing all of the supplies up along with their bags. Luckily, the walk to the campsite is not long... only about ten minutes, even though they're now out of the village and by the edge of a forest. Amy M.: We're here! Rini: Finally! Takuya: We'd better set up camp then. At the campsite, they found eight more sleeping bags, a crate full of cutlery, a pile of some firewood, and some other camping supplies. The group started to look upon their supplies, both those waiting at camp and the ones they had brought up from the village. Trowa: Maybe this won't be so bad after all. Once everyone made it to camp, they went to work trying to open the crates that they had brought with them. Opening one up with a crowbar that was among the stuff already at camp, they find a stack of non-perishable food, along with a note inside. Amy M.: (reading it aloud) In the four crates you've received today is enough food to last a week. Every Monday, new food crates will be delivered to the campsite. Be wise and ration your food carefully, for you will not get anything extra if your supply runs dry early. Yusuke: Just what do we have in here anyway? Trowa: It doesn't matter. Right now, we've got to set up the tents before it gets dark. And who knows how long it'll be 'til that happens. The group splits up to start putting the site together. Most of them work on putting the tents together, while the rest try to figure out what they've been left to work with. Jet: Hey... I think I've found our water supply. Hidden in the bottom of the crate with the cutlery in it were three one-gallon jugs of spring water. Amy R.: (looking into the crate) That's it? That doesn't look like much. Yugi: (also looking in) I doubt that'll last us a week. We'd better ration it very carefully. Haruka: (reaching in and pulling out a jug) Even more so. We're going to need at least one to do the cooking. Maybe more. Jet: Two gallons of water to split among 16 people for a week? It's not going to work! Amy M.: Let's see... one gallon for 8 people, 4 quarts in a gallon, and 2 pints in a quart. That means each person gets one pint for the week. Amy R.: A pint? How much is that? Yugi: Ever drank out of a milkbox carton? You know, the ones you get with lunch in elementary school? James: Eeeeeee! That's nowhere near enough! Rini: That won't even last most of us day. Not even a few hours for some of us. Amy M.: You know, maybe this isn't supposed to be a week's supply. Maybe it's less. Jet: If that's true, then the question is how much less? Amy M.: I'm not sure. But until we know, we'll have to ration carefully. Takuya: Just how much rationing are we talking about here? ====== A couple hours later at dinner, as a pot is simmering over the campfire, made courtesy of Haruka and Jet, Tally begins passing tablespoons out to the group. Whitney follows right behind with one of the water jugs, filling Takuya's spoon with water, and then moving on. Takuya: This is insane! You expect us to live on this much water a meal? Trunks: (as his spoon is filled) I need more than this! I'm a growing boy, you know. Whitney: Everybody gets the same amount of water per meal... one tablespoon. Yusuke: We can't live off this! This is crazy! Nabiki: (thinking) If only there was a way to make money off of this. Haruka: (looking at everyone) Soup's on. Jet begins passing out ceramic bowls, each filled only halfway with beef and chicken ramen noodle soup. James: (sighs) This is just like always. It's like I'm always begging for scraps. Keith: If I wanted to starve to death, I would have gone on Survivor! Haruka: We would've served more, but our lack of cooking water has put us at a disadvantage. As the group moans and groans about their lack of food and water, Trowa comes to a decision. Trowa: I don't feel like eating. Someone can have my bowl. Haruka: You'll need your strength. Who knows what we'll do tomorrow? Trowa: It's okay. I can manage. Besides, some people need it more than I do. Trowa walks over to Nabiki and hands his bowl to her, to everyone's surprise. Nabiki: You're giving it to me? Trowa: For all the help you've given me today. Trowa then went back to finish putting up the tents. Nabiki put Trowa's bowl aside as she noticed most of her fellow Roomies, especially Amy R., James, and Trunks, looking at her. Nabiki: (raises the bowl) Whomever will pay me the most, I'll give Trowa's bowl of soup to. Okay? Amy R., James, and Trunks start fishing through their pockets for change. Finally, out of nowhere, Takuya pulls out a 50 yen bill and waves it in front of Nabiki's face. Nabiki: (grabbing the bill and handing the bowl to Takuya) Sold! James: Curses! Trunks: (hearing his stomach grumble) That should've been mine. Takuya smiles as he scarfs down Trowa's bowl of soup. ********** Night One With all the tents up and four sleeping bags squeezed into each one, the group goes about trying to decide who's sleeping with whom. Haruka: It's appropriate that we have two tents reserved for the girls and two reserved for the guys. I suggest we draw straws to see who goes where. Haruka pulled out six straws, breaks two of them in half, and then clenches them in her hand. Haruka: Girls first. Long straws are together, short ones are together. Jet: I guess the guys can do the same. As Jet follows Haruka's lead, the girls draw straws. Amy M., Amy R., Nabiki, and Whitney end up with the long ones, leaving the short ones with Haruka, Rally, Rini, and Tally. For the guys, the long straws were drawn by James, Jet, Takuya, and Yusuke, while the short ones were in the hands of Keith, Trowa, Trunks, and Yugi. With that, the groups gather their belongings and move them into their respective tents. ====== That night, with mostly everyone else asleep, one of the tents was up and bumping. Naturally, it's one of the girls' tents... the one with both Amys, Nabiki, and Whitney in it. And they seem to have caught something early on. Whitney: So Nabiki, what's up with you and Trowa? You two are hitting it off real quickly. Nabiki: There's nothing! Honest! Whitney: There's gotta be something! Nabiki: Well, what do you expect? He's so handsome! I'm surprised you aren't after him already. Whitney: What? What makes you think I'm after him? Amy M.: 'Cause Nabiki can see the look on your face, Whit. Amy R.: If you like him, tell him already! Don't beat around the bush! Whitney: (blushes) Yes, he's cute, but that doesn't mean I like him. Amy R.: But something tells me you do like somebody. Whitney: I do not! Nabiki: There's gotta be someone! Whitney: Even if there was, I'm not telling you anything! Amy M.: You can tell us! Just between us girls! Nabiki: Yeah! I don't even mind if it's Trowa... 'cause there's nothing between us at all. Whitney: That's what you say, Nabiki. But give it a few weeks... Nabiki: Shut up! Nabiki takes her pillow and starts hitting Whitney with it. The gym leader retalitates with a pillow of her own, as both Amys also get in on the action. ====== Day Two The following morning, Tally and Amy M. were the first ones up. They were about to prepare breakfast for the group when they found a small package sitting by the campfire. Tally: (picking it up) What's this? Tally opens it and finds a small note and five Digimon plush dolls... one of Agumon, Biyomon, Patamon, Gatomon, and Guilmon... inside. Tally: Hey everyone, we've got mail! The group slowly makes their way out of their tents, being greeted by the bright orange glow of the rising sun. Amy M.: (CC) We get up this morning and find five plush dolls along with a note. Tally: (CC) It looks like as we have to pick a Digimon to raise. Jet, Keith, Takuya, Trowa, and Yusuke are gathered around the now extinguished campfire as they try to find out the challenge exactly. Keith: So, what are we doing exactly? Tally: Well, we're supposed to split into two equal teams of eight. Each team selects a Digimon that they'll raise for a certain period of time. All it says after that is that I'm one of the captains... and Takuya's the other. Takuya: (pointing to himself) Me? Tally: (nods) I guess they're utilizing our knowledge of Digimon. Takuya: I don't know that much. Except for the ones I've met before. And I don't remember meeting any of these. Takuya was looking the dolls over, which Jet was examining. Yusuke: We're not babysitters. Why do we have to raise a Digimon? Trowa: We've got to do what we've got to do. After all, how hard can it be? Amy M.: I guess you two will decide on teams after breakfast then. Takuya: I guess so. ====== After a very light breakfast, emphasis on 'light,' Tally and Takuya pick their teams. [Team Assignments: Yellow - Tally, Haruka, Jet, Nabiki, James, Rally, Keith, Yusuke Red - Takuya, Whitney, Amy M., Trunks, Rini, Amy R., Yugi, Trowa] Splitting up into their teams, the groups go to work to decide which Digimon they will adopt. Let's start with the yellow team... Tally: So, anyone prefer any of the Digimon in particular? Keith: I heard that the red dinosaur one is very strong. Tally: Guilmon? I think he is too. James: I prefer the Agumon. He looks more dangerous to me. Rally: I'm also going with the yellow dinosaur... Agumon, right? Tally: Yes. Anyone else with a favorite? Yusuke: I don't like any of them... but I'll go with the Guilmon. Nabiki: I'm going for the Gatomon. I think she's cute. Tally: Haruka? Jet? Haruka: I think we need to go with the easiest one to raise that's still very strong. So, I'm going with Agumon. Jet: I'm going with Guilmon. He looks like the strongest to me. Tally: Let's see... I think Guilmon got the most votes, so we'll ask for that one. And with the red team... Takuya: I think Gatomon are at the champion-level, so it would save us a lot of training time if we pick her out of the gate. Amy M.: But that would mean that it might take longer to get her to listen to us. Especially if she's more experienced than the others. Trowa: I actually like the Guilmon the most. Trunks: Me too. Let's go with that one. Rini: I wanna go with Biyomon! Amy R.: I second that! Whitney: And third! Yugi: I'm going with the Guilmon as well. Takuya: So let's see... three for Guilmon, three for Biyomon, and one for Gatomon. I guess it's up to you Amy. Amy M.: Hmmmm... I think we need strength to win, so I'm going to go for Guilmon. Amy R., Rini, and Whitney: Amy! Amy M.: What? You mean you girls really wanted Biyomon? Trunks: No way! We're not taking Biyomon. Takuya: Well, Guilmon got the most votes, so we'll take Guilmon. Sorry girls... that's the way the votes crumble. ====== The two teams had made their decision, but they were unaware of what was going to happen next. That is, until they got a note at around 11 a.m. to inform them of a challenge. James: (reading the note) Make your way to the Challenge Field, one-half of a mile northwest of the campsite. Use the attached map to find it. Bring your choices for the Digimon each team will be raising to the challenge. Rally: So that's it? We just go there now? Trowa: I believe that's how it works. ====== The 16 Roomies get to the Challenge Field after walking for only a few minutes. Tenchi is smiling as he waits for them. There's a large platform behind him with twelve pairs of footholds in them and an equal number of pairs of rings hanging from a movable girder above them. Tenchi: Hello guys! So, how are things living out here in the wild? Keith: You're honestly trying to starve us out here, are you? Yusuke: We barely have enough food and water to go around! Haruka: I doubt that's fair. Tenchi: Don't worry. Things will work out in due time. Meanwhile, I need Tally and Takuya to come forward. The two Digimon representatives come up to Tenchi. Tenchi: Now, this morning you were given a crate with five Digimon plush dolls inside. The note asked you to pick one. Tomorrow morning, you'll get a live version of the Digimon you chose, and you'll have to raise and train it well. Tally: Wait... tomorrow? What about the challenge? Takuya: Yeah! Aren't we here for a challenge. Tenchi: (laughs) Seriously, you guys are assuming way too much. Yes, the Digimon you will be raising are involved in a challenge. But not today's. Rally: You think you're really slick, don't you? Tenchi: You guys just need to read the fine print. How can you safely assume something when I haven't told you it was going to happen? Takuya: I guess you're right. Tenchi: Now, Tally, as the oldest of the two captains, you get to pick which Digimon you'll raise first. Tally: Okay then... my team picks Guilmon. Everyone on Takuya's team gasps in surprise. Takuya: Hey! That was our pick! Tenchi: If so, then you'll have to change it. We're not allowing both teams to raise the same Digimon. Takuya looks at his team, who starts shouting choices at him. Shouts of Agumon, Patamon, and Biyomon fill the air. After a minute, Takuya makes his choice. Takuya: Tenchi, I think for our team, we'll take Gatomon. All of Takuya's team members weren't happy with their captain's decision. None of them had wanted Gatomon, and he chose her without hearing them out. Tenchi: Gatomon it is. The Digimon will be at your campsite in the morning. In the meantime, you two can go back with the others. Most of Takuya's members don't even look at him as he joins them. Takuya: Come on guys, don't be like this! Whitney: None of us wanted Gatomon! What is your problem? Trowa: Like it would have mattered. All the guys were thinking different Digimon, but all the girls had their hearts set on Biyomon. Trunks: There's no way we're raising a Biyomon! Rini: What's wrong with that? Amy R.: Yeah? There's nothing wrong with a pink Digimon! Whitney: That's why Takuya chose Gatomon. He didn't want to be stuck raising a Biyomon! Takuya: Hey, I'm the team leader! I make the decisions around here! Yusuke: Hey, leader! If you don't shut up right now, I'll do it myself! Rally: Yusuke, you know better! Don't be threatening people! Yusuke: Well, he's getting on my nerves! Takuya: Guess what? You're getting on mine! Haruka: (stepping in) Alright... do I have to give both of you a time-out? Takuya and Yusuke stop their arguing and turn away. Tenchi: Geese, you guys are all at each other's throats already? Haruka: That's what happens when you leave a group of strangers together with very little to eat or drink. Tenchi: Yeah... I'll make a note of that. Anyway... for today's challenge, we've got a doozy. This will test your strength and endurance. Six members of each team will have their feet strapped to the platform behind me. They'll reach up and place their hands in those rings above them. He shows them the platforms. Tenchi: Inch by inch, the girder above you will rise higher and higher, causing the attachees to stretch further and further in an attempt to hang on. The first team that has their six members let go of the rings above them loses, and the first $100,000 bonus goes into the other team's jackpot. Sound good? Nabiki: What about the other two team members? Tenchi: Glad you asked, Miss Tendo. The other two members will be trying their best to do anything possible to get the members of the opposite team to let go. By anything possible, we mean anything without harming them. Some of the Roomies begin imagining what it would be like being pulled. Tenchi: Now, for team captains... I've decided that Jet and Trunks, you two will be the first to experience it. Step forward please. Jet and Trunks do as they are told. They then turn around to face the others. Tenchi: Captains, it is now your turn to pick teams. Choose wisely. Think about it... who do you think would be most flexible? Have the most endurance? And on the other end, who would be able to do some to distract the other team's players? Jet and Trunks look over their choices as they contemplate who to pick. Jet: (CC) I've barely known these guys for a day and now I'm supposed to decide who'll do the best in this challenge? Trunks: (CC) This'll be tough, no doubt. But no matter who I pick, I think I can outlast anyone else here. This ought to be a cinch. ========================= End Episode One ========================== Tenchi: (VO) Coming this season on Roomies 3: Digital Frontier... Jet: It's better than any other show on TV. Tenchi: (VO) We've got action... Rally runs after somebody with her gun drawn. Rally: You're not getting away that easily! On top of a giant map, Keith, Amy R., James, and Trowa are standing by the Great Lakes. Tenchi: (reading from an index card) In what country would you find the largest known man-made structure of Jesus Christ? The four of them don't move for a second. But when Trowa jumps, the foursome makes a mad dash for South America, shoving and nearly knocking each other over in the process. Tenchi: (VO) Romance... Keith: She's got the hots for you. I can tell. Yugi: You've got to be kidding! Haruka: Just follow your heart. You'll know if it's right. Nabiki, Rini, and Whitney look around the corner and gasp in disbelief. Whitney: No way! Nabiki: Oh, that is so not right! Tenchi: (VO) Comedy... Tally: (with her face in the camera) One reason why I rarely drink. She moves away and we see Jet fall backwards on the ground... and laugh about it. Trowa: (trying to keep from snickering) You've gotta see this! Yusuke: (from behind a dressing room door) I'm not coming out in this get-up! Amy R.: (laughing) Who's she supposed to be anyway? One of the women is onstage, prancing around in a male plugsuit. And although her face is covered, we can hear her moans of uncomfortableness. Tenchi: (VO) And drama... Amy M.: I'm a kind person, honest! I would never do a thing like that! Yusuke: You expect me to believe that? In the darkness, we see two shadowy figures, with one running away from the other. Female Voice: Stay away from me! Male Voice: No! I won't! The sounds of different objects hitting the ground can be heard as a cameraman races to the scene. Rini: (holding back tears) Why is this happening? Why now? Trunks: I can't believe I wasn't there to see it! Tenchi: (VO) It's the most pulse-pounding season of Roomies ever! Takuya: I knew I should have stayed at home. Keith: It'll be worth the admission.
