"Mystery Solvers" - written by Freedom Fighter I apologize for the long wait in this fourth episode. But apologies aside, here we go! Last time... The case got even more dangerous when Kim and Penny nearly lost their heads! But thanks to Kim's athleticism, they managed to survive. Meanwhile, Eliza Thornberry became team captain, as she tried her best to match up teams in a way that would be most advantageous to her. The detectives worked throughout the day, trying to dechiper the real clues from the heresay and blatant protective lying. But not just between their suspects, but amongst themselves as well. That made for a very interesting third quiz, where no one seemed to be safe. And through all of the confusion, Chang Wufei's promise to work alone has brought about his downfall. He is the third detective to be kicked off. 7 detectives and 18 suspects remain. Who will be next to go home? ====== Mystery Solvers Fanfic Reality Series written by Freedom Fighter Hosted by Christian Tangera 'Remaining' Detective Line-up: - Eliza Thornberry, The Wild Thornberrys - Gary Oak, Pokémon: Master Quest - Kim Possible, Kim Possible - Mokuba Kaiba, Yu-Gi-Oh! - Penny Proud, The Proud Family - Raye Hino, Sailor Moon - Terry McGinnis, Batman Beyond Fanfic Rating: Will be PG throughout most of the duration, but there may be a PG-13 element added later on. Now the rest of us can solve this case without having to worry about him. Penny: (CC) At least with Wufei gone, I can concentrate on what's important. And that's making sure I'm not the next one sent packin'. Terry: (CC) I expect the group to get along a whole lot better now. Hopefully everyone will be more open now and we can catch this thief before he or she knew what hit him! ====== [Location: Gullible Gulch - Team Headquarters - Terry's Room Date: Monday, October 28th, 2002 (Day 6) Time: 10:15 a.m. PT] After Raye's near-miss the night before, she was sharing notes with Terry again. They were attempting to figure off how far their theories were, and if they needed any tweaking or not. Raye: Argh! Why didn't I take that clue seriously last night? Terry: Well, there's no guarantee that whomever stole that Scooby-Doo plush doll has the ability to fly under his or her own power. Raye: It doesn't help that the whole hair issue is confusing me to no end. Black hair, then auburn. Is the thief dying his or her hair or what? Terry: Maybe the black one was planted to throw us off. Raye: But that red strand of hair could have been planted too. Terry: Hmmm... there lies our dilemma. Do one of the strands point to our thief, or are they just decoys? Raye: (thinking out loud) We need to figure out who doesn't have an alibi. Maybe then we can finger the thief! Terry: Easier said than done! I really haven't eliminated that many suspects yet. Raye: You know, maybe we should pool our findings with everyone else. Then we'd all be on a level playing field. Terry: It would help us fill in a few of the blanks we have. But if we do that, that means making a mistake on the next quiz could be even more costly. Raye: I think we have to do it, Terry. It may be the only way we'll catch something that we may have missed. Terry: Or something someone's neglected to tell anyone. Okay, let's do it. ====== [Location: Team Headquarters - First Floor Lobby] Eliza was pacing back and forth, contemplating something Mokuba had told her last night, just before they were scheduled to take the quiz... ====== [Date: Sunday, October 27th, 2002 Time: 6:38 p.m.] Eliza was in her room, which she shared with Penny. She was in the process of helping her roommate pack, in case she was sent home that night. Eliza: You're pretty calm for someone who might be going home. Penny: I'm just focused, that's all. I'm NOT going home tonight. Eliza: That confident, huh? Penny: Not really... but I heard thinking positive always helps. Suddenly, the two are interrupted when their door opens and Mokuba looks in. Mokuba: Eliza... can I talk to you in private? Eliza: Sure. (looking at Penny) Be right back. ====== [Location: Outside of Team Headquarters] Eliza: Dynamite? Mokuba: (nods) It was in the basement of Naru's apartment. Eliza: Couldn't someone have planted it there? Mokuba: Eliza, the box was filled with the stuff. Unless the thief had help, there's no way he or she could get all of that in there and try to hide it amongst all of those boxes. Eliza: So you think Naru did it? Mokuba: Either her, or someone close to her. I think we'd better keep an eye on her. Eliza: But what about our hunch? Haven't we stuck to Botan for the past few days? Mokuba: Yes, but I feel really good about this! Eliza: Maybe we should sit on it. Make sure we're not going down the wrong road. Especially since it's you taking that quiz tonight. Mokuba: (sighs in defeat) I guess. I'll stick with the plan. Eliza: Don't worry, Mokuba. We'll check your lead out in the morning. ====== [Date: Wednesday, October 28th, 2002 Time: 10:20 a.m.] Eliza: I wonder what he did last night. Is it worth sacrificing all we've done so far just to check out a new lead? At that moment, Chris walked into the room with another videotape in hand. Chris: (as he walked by) Time for our daily briefing, Miss Thornberry. Eliza: I'm coming! As the other detectives began to gather, Eliza took a few more seconds to think. Eliza: (CC) I trust Mokuba and all, but that can only take you so far. I mean, he may have picked up on a false clue and not know it at all. That's what makes this game so hard. Even if someone's telling the truth, it may not be the truth you need. Eliza joined the others as they took their seats and Chris slid the tape into the VCR. Chris: Well, at least our thief's consistent. Let's see what he or she has to say today. The detectives were greeted with the same backdrop as before on the video, as the thief appears on screen. Mystery Figure: Getting tired, detectives? I'm running you all over town, and you don't even know it! He/she produces a picture of Chang Wufei and promptly tears it into pieces. Mystery Figure: By now, you should have realized that you'll need teamwork to even stand a change against me! This guy learned that going solo is never the best option! And the nerve of him... having a distaste for women! He/she then showed off another picture, this time with the portrait side facing the thief. Mystery Figure: I definitely am not an expert at martial arts. And I'm sure a sword couldn't have made that hole in the bank window. (turns the picture over) That's why I am NOT Samurai Jack. But, I am one of your remaining 16 suspects! Which one... well, that's for me to know and you to find out! The tape ends without allowing any time for the thief to laugh. The detectives turn their attention to the suspect board, as Chris crosses off Jack's picture. But upon looking on the board, almost everyone noticed that something was wrong. Gary: Didn't the thief say there were 16 left? Chris: I believe the thief did. Terry: How can that be? We've only crossed off 3 suspects. That leaves 17. Raye: Is there something we're missing? Chris: There might be. The problem is, we have to find out what. But before we do... Eliza... Eliza removed the Team Leader pin from her shirt and handed it to Chris. Chris: Thank you. This morning, I'm assigning a new team leader. And once again, we have a tie for cumulative leader. So, the new team leader is the person among those tied that finished the quiz in the fastest time. Chris walked over to Terry and handed him the pin. Chris: Mr. McGinnis, you are the new team leader. The other six detectives applaud happily as Terry takes the pin and puts it on his shirt. Chris: Terry, today you will be responsible for splitting up your fellow six remaining detectives between two sites. Chris points to the pictures of Botan and Kizuna. Chris: As you know, production of 'The Princess and the Pirate' hasn't resumed since Sally is still missing. Botan and Kizuna are spending today at the shooting range, trying to find some type of gun to protect themselves. Three of you will need to go there to see if anything new has come up on the set, as well as convince them that they don't need personal protection. He then directs the detectives' attention towards Spike's picture. Chris: For the other three, you'll be searching for Spike, who found something warranting our attention inside the bank. Those three will have to find out what it is. Chris motions for Terry to get up out of his seat. Chris: Terry, the floor is yours. Who are you sending where? Terry thought for a moment, milling the options in his brain, before finally coming to a decision. Terry: Penny, Kim, and Mokuba will go to shooting range, and Raye, Gary, and Eliza will go to the bank. Chris: Fine then. You are all to leave as soon as possible. Good luck to you all, and I will see you later. Chris departed as the groups began to form. Terry: (CC) That was actually a tough decision to make, as I remember Kim and Penny talking a lot to Kizuna. It's good that they're getting friendly with her, but I'm a little worried about inside information. That Kizuna's only telling them stuff. On the other hand, sending them to see Spike would give them the opportunity to catch something new. I was afraid that if I had sent them to help Spike, they'd have an advantage over the rest of us. Gary: (CC) It's obvious that Terry's thinking strategically. The question is, who is he trying to get rid of and who is he trying to keep around? Does he think Kim's a bigger threat to him than I am? ====== [Location: Shooting Range Time: 10:40 a.m.] Arriving at their destination, the three detectives enter, with Kim leading the way and Penny and Mokuba right behind her. There, they see Kizuna brandishing a small black handgun. Kim: Hold it right there, Kizuna! Spooked by Kim's voice, Kizuna accidentally pulls the trigger, firing a single round into the wall in front of her. Kizuna: (slowly putting the gun down on the counter) I love the smell of gun powder, honest! I wasn't trying to kill anyone! Kim: (cautiously stepping towards Kizuna) Look, we're not here to hurt you. Kizuna turns around to face Kim, finally breathing a sigh of relief. Kizuna: Whew... you scared me there, Kim. I thought the sheriff was in here. Penny: Kizuna, just what are you doing in here anyway? Didn't anyone teach you how dangerous guns can be? Mokuba: You could hurt somebody! Kizuna: (leaning over the counter) I'm doing it for my own protection! Sally's been gone for a week now, and who knows if she's still alive? Who knows if the kidnapper comes after me next? I don't know about you, but I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet. Kim: Isn't getting a gun a little... well, you know... Kizuna hops over the counter and takes a standing position in front of Kim. Kizuna: Much? Kim: (nods) Totally. Kizuna: Kim, this is my life we're talking about here! Penny: Nobody's gonna die, Kizuna. We'll find Sally and everything will be alright. Kizuna: Forget about Sally! It's too late for her! But it's not for me. I can still save myself! No way am I letting some creep get the drop on me! Kim: I know you're nervous, but you need to chill! Nothing is going to happen to you! Kizuna: (shaking a little now) Are you sure? Kim: (pointing to herself) Just leave it to me. I'll catch this guy. Penny: (looking at Mokuba) What are we? Chopped liver? Mokuba: (to Penny) I knew this would happen. Terry set us up on purpose. Penny: Wha? Mokuba: Think about it... he knows Kim is one of the better players in this game. Maybe even the best. Penny: So? I could've told ya that! Mokuba: I think Terry believes that we're the two weakest detectives left, and he's hoping that we slow Kim down enough so that she eventually gets kicked off before he does. Penny: Terry thinks I'm weak? He doesn't think I can solve this mystery? Mokuba: I don't think it's that... Penny: Well, he'd better watch out, 'cause Penny Proud's in the house! And I'm gonna catch this thief! Kim: (interrupting) You say something, Penny? Penny: (angrily blowing a lock of hair out of her face) Nothing. Kim: (smiles) Good. Kim then resumes her conversation with Kizuna as Penny huffs. She looks for Mokuba so she can take our her frustration on him, but he's nowhere to be found. Penny: Mokuba? Dang! Where'd he run off to? ====== [Location: Gullible Gulch Bank] Across the street from the bank, Eliza, Gary, and Raye spot Spike waving at them. The trio heads over to him. Raye: What's up? Spike: Get down before somebody sees you! Eliza and Raye do so immediately, but Gary takes his time before squatting. Raye: Um... why are we doing this? Spike: We don't want anyone to tipoff anybody inside the bank. Gary looked through the glass doors and saw Judy standing in front of Naru's teller window. Mario and Peter are behind Judy in line. But Kou is missing. Gary: Weren't we going to go in the bank to check out something? Raye: Yeah. Why are we out here? Spike: We don't want to disrupt business. They're still trying to make up for lost time. We'll go in after they leave for lunch. Eliza: That's more than an hour away! Gary: Can you at least tell us what we're looking for? Spike: I'm not quite sure myself. But the sheriff thinks we need to check the place out again. There's something we're missing that's preventing us from solving this case. Gary: And you think you might find it in there? Spike: Positive. Just stay out of sight so no one becomes suspicious. Suddenly, the door leading into the general store behind them opens, and Sheriff Buzz Lightyear steps out with two completely filled bags cradled in his arms. Buzz: Deputy... what's going on here? Spike: Sheriff Lightyear? Allow me to explain. Buzz: You know that obstructing entrance into any town building without prior authority from the mayor and from me is against the law, right? Spike: With all due respect, sir, I'm in the middle of a stakeout here! Buzz: Oh. (looking at the detectives) And what are the three of you doing here? Raye: Us? Oh, we're helping Spike out. Buzz: Hmmmm... you know Spike, if you need this much help, then maybe you'll need me too. Spike: Oh, sir, no... I'm sure we can handle it. Gary: You've got nothing to fear, sheriff! We'll watch his back! Buzz: (after a moment to think about it) Okay then, carry on. But don't impede anyone's path, okay? Buzz then walked off towards the sheriff's station. Spike breathed a sigh of relief. Spike: I didn't think he was going to leave. Raye: You mean you never told him what you're doing? Gary: You lied to us! Spike: I lied because I didn't think you'd be willing to help. I am right in saying that we still need that one piece that will blow this case wide open. I'm confident in thinking that we'll find it inside the bank. Eliza: But won't Buzz want to know what happened later? Spike: Let me worry about that, okay? Raye: (looking at Eliza and Gary) You know what, guys? I don't think we should go through with this. Gary: You may be right. It's too risky, and we might not find anything. Spike: But what if I do? Wouldn't you guys want to be the first to see my findings? Eliza: I say we go for it. What have we got to lose? Raye and Gary thought about it for a minute, and then agreed. Raye: Okay. I'm in. Gary: Me too. But you'd better let us do our thing. Spike: Just let me do mine, and that's fine. Gary and Spike shook their hands in agreement before they all took their crouching positions and waited for high noon. ====== [Location: Outside the Shooting Range] Penny: (shouting in the streets) Mokuba! Mokuba! Mokuba, where are you? A few of the townspeople were shooting odd glances at Penny as she tried to find where Mokuba had run off to. But she didn't seem to be having any luck at all. Penny: (putting her hands on her hips) Who does he think I am? His babysitter? I'm not gonna spend all day lookin' for him! Kim walks out of the shooting range and calls for Penny. Kim: Forget about him right now, Penny! We've got work to do! I'm sure he'll turn up sooner or later! Penny turned around and stomped into the building, where both Kim and Kizuna are waiting for her. Kim: You didn't say anything to upset him, did you? Penny: Of course not! Kizuna: Maybe I scared him off with my whole rant about protecting myself. Kim: Nonsense! Look, when he wants to see us again, he'll come back. We'll fill him in on everything anyway. Penny: Why should we? It's like he's skipping out on his job, and we're supposed to make up the difference? Kim: That's how it works, Penny. Penny: That's whack! I say if he doesn't want to help us solve this case anymore, then we should stop giving him information! Kim and Penny stare at each other, trying to figure out a resolution to their discussion about Mokuba. Kim: (CC) I agree with Penny. It's just that I think it's too early to start cutting people out of the picture. We might still need Mokuba. Penny: (CC) I've had to work for everything just to stay in this game! And then Mokuba walks off, and I'm supposed to help him? No one's done that for me! It's totally unfair, and I won't stand for it! ****** Kim and Penny continued their staring contest, with neither one willing to give in. Luckily, their concentration was broken when they heard several shots being fired back in the actual 'range' that was located out back. Kizuna: Thank goodness... that must be Botan. Kim: We'd better get to her too before she does something she'll regret. Penny: Yeah. Come on. The three teenagers walked to the back, as each slid on a pair of giant ear mufflers. And just in time too, as Botan began firing off another round of shots into a target 30 feet away. Penny: (yelling) Botan, are you nuts? Unfortunately, Botan couldn't hear Penny over the sound of her gunshots. So, Penny tried again, stepping closer this time. Penny: (yelling again, at the top of her lungs) Are you nuts? Botan: (yelling over the gunshots) Did you say something? Botan puts the gun down on the counter in front of her and takes off her ear mufflers. But Penny hadn't noticed yet, and she was still yelling. Penny: ARE YOU NUTS? Botan: It's nice to see you again too, Penny, but you don't have to yell! Kim: (stepping forward) Is there anyway to convince you to NOT get a gun? Botan: You guys find that thief yet? Kim: No. Not yet. Botan: I'm buying this gun, Kim. Once you find the thief and put him in jail, then I'll come back here and return it. Kim: I can't let you do that. What if you do something crazy? Kizuna: Kim's right, Botan. Maybe we are making too much of this. Botan: Yeah... we probably are. Penny: (noticing something on the ground beneath Botan) Shooting a gun must take a lot of energy. You're sweating like a hog! Kim: (stepping back) Eeewww! Gross! Botan: I guess it does, doesn't it? Kizuna: Maybe we'd better get back to the set and wash up. Who knows? Maybe we'll get an update on where Sally is. Botan: Good idea. Let's go. (to Kim and Penny) Thanks for all your help, girls. Kim: Just promise us you two won't come back here, okay? Penny: We wouldn't want to see you two sitting in prison. With that, Botan and Kizuna left. Kim was about to walk out too, but then she saw Penny reaching for the handgun Botan had left. Kim: Penny! Penny: What? Kim: Don't tell me you're thinking of getting a gun now! Penny picked up the gun, rubbed her hand along the handle, and then gave it to Kim... who instantly panicked. Kim: Why are you giving it to me? Penny: (tapping her foot) Don't you notice something? Calming down, Kim repeated Penny's actions on the gun... and quickly came to the same conclusion. Kim: It's dry! Penny: (nods) Don't you think if Botan sweat that much, it would have gotten on the handle of the gun as well? Kim: Okay, so she was lying to us. The question is, what is... or what was she trying to cover up? ====== [Location: Somewhere in town] For some unknown reason, Mokuba had left behind Kim and Penny and was walking around the town. Mokuba: (sighs) Why am I still even here? No one believes in me. And no one could care less! Maybe I should save everyone the trouble and just go home. Looking up, Mokuba saw someone standing in front of him. It was Sakura, and she was smiling. Sakura: Good morning! Mokuba, right? Mokuba: (blinks) You know my name? Sakura: Who doesn't these days? Mokuba: I guess you're right, with all of the news coverage this is getting. Sakura: (examining Mokuba) Were you saying something about going home? Mokuba: I don't know how much more of this I can take. Barely anyone's helping me, and I have no idea if I'm on the right track or not. Sakura: Well, you must be doing something right. You've been here a week. Mokuba: Maybe... but I think my days here are numbered. Sakura: (patting Mokuba on the shoulder) Nonsense! I think you're doing a great job! I just wish I could be as smart as you! Mokuba: You're just saying that to cheer me up. Sakura: (nearly biting her tongue) It's true! The whole thing! I'm glad you're here trying to solve this case, because it seems no one else is willing to help. Mokuba: I guess. Sakura: I bet you're just down in the dumps because things aren't working out. Just hang in there! I promise things will become clear real soon! Mokuba: The way things are going, I'll be gone before then. (sighs) Thanks for trying to cheer me up. I gotta go. Mokuba turned around and walked back to the shooting range, leaving Sakura to watch as he departed. Then, out of nowhere, Syaoran Li appears, landing right next to Sakura. Syaoran: You shouldn't lead him on like that, you know. Sakura: Syaoran! I'm just trying to help! Syaoran: (shakes his head, then turns around) Come on... Meilin needs us. ====== [Location: Shooting Range] Kim and Penny had just left and were on the way back to headquarters when they saw Mokuba walking towards them, his head lowered. Penny: Mokuba! You had me worried sick! Where did you go? Mokuba: (not looking up) I just needed to think, that's all. Kim: We're heading back. I think Terry would want to know about what we found. But I guess we'd better tell you first. Penny: (stopping Kim) No way! We're not telling him a thing! Kim: Penny! Penny: I'm serious! He didn't help us at all! How can you just toss him a bone like that? Mokuba: (walking past them) Forget it. I don't care anyway. As Mokuba continued on, Kim and Penny started to argue. Kim: Look what you've done now! You've gone and hurt the poor guy's feelings! Penny: Me? He walks out on us and I'm to blame for that? Kim: What do you think? Penny: Well, I wasn't the one who start asking Kizuna questions and completely ignoring him and me in the process! Kim: Hey, I did all the work! Penny: You wouldn't have thought to pick up the gun if I hadn't done it! Kim: Would so. Penny: Would not. Kim: I don't even know why I'm arguing with you! We shouldn't even be having this discussion! Penny: Then why did you start it in the first place? Kim and Penny glared at each other for a few seconds before turning the other way and crossing their arms over their chests angrily. ====== [Location: Gullible Gulch Bank Time: 12:10 p.m.] Spike, Raye, Gary, and Eliza are still waiting in their hiding place as they watch Kou lock up the bank. They then wait until he and Naru, who is with him, are out of sight. Spike: Okay you three. Time to go. Spike made a break for the door, with the detectives behind him. Once they reach the front door, Spike pulls out a ring filled with keys. Eliza: (genuinely amazed) Whoa! Gary: You've got keys to every building in town? Spike: Just the businesses and such. Both Buzz and I have a set. For obvious reasons, we don't have one for houses and apartments. Raye: Thank goodness for that. Spike: (sifting through the keys) Okay, let's see. Sheriff's office, the school, mayor's office... ah, here we go! The bank key. Spike unlocked the door and motioned for the detectives to quickly step in. Closing the door behind him, Spike warns the group not to go any further. Spike: Wait... I have to disable the security system first. Walking over to a keypad that's attached to the inside of the front left door, Spike quickly punched in the number code to disable it. Spike: Okay, I say we've got about half an hour. Start searching, but remember that you must leave everything as it is now when we leave. Raye, Gary, and Eliza nodded before going their own separate ways. ====== After nearly half an hour of searching, the four of them had succeeded in finding absolutely nothing. Raye: (flipping through a stack of papers) I knew this would be a waste of time. Eliza: (looking under the teller's desk) What would have happened if we decided not to look, and there really was something worth getting here? Then where would we be? Raye: I guess you're right. I didn't think of it that way. Towards the back, Gary was opening folders and reading through bank documents of all sorts. But then, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted something. Taking a brief glance around the corner, he saw Spike pull a piece of paper out of his pocket and then slide it into a pile on top of Kou's desk. Gary: (VO) He's planting evidence to throw us off! Why I oughta... Gary stopped himself short, as a great idea made its way into his brain. Gary: (VO) This might not be so bad after all. Gary resumed his work before Spike had noticed that he had spied on him. Gary waited for a few seconds before hearing an expected shout from Spike. Spike: Hey, I think I found something! Not even trying to hide a smirk, Gary got up and walked over to Spike. Raye and Eliza were not far behind. Spike: (showing them the piece of paper) Look what I found. Gary took it from Spike. As he examined it, Raye and Eliza positioned themselves on either side so that they could see it too. Gary: It's a confession letter! Raye: (pointing to the signature) And it's signed by Kou Uraki, the bank manager! Eliza then realized that she was a disadvantage because the letter had been written in Japanese! Eliza: Could you two tell me what it says exactly? I can't read Japanese. Raye: It just says that Kou knew that the bank was going to be robbed eight days ago! Eliza: Really? Raye: (nods) Although the letter isn't addressed to someone, it states that he learned about the robbery from someone close to thief. Gary: (playing along) Or maybe the thief himself. Raye: But if this is true, when did he learn about the robbery? And why didn't he report it to the sheriff's office? Spike: He may have been nervous. Maybe he knew the thief would come after him if he told someone about it. Raye: How come no one noticed it 'til now? Didn't you and Buzz search this place from top to bottom? Spike: We're only human. Besides, it was mixed in with all of these bank reports. Only Mr. Uraki would know where exactly. Eliza: So what do we do now? Spike: (taking the paper from Gary) Here. I'll make sure Buzz gets a good look at this. Then, we'll have to bring Mr. Uraki in for questioning. Raye: (looking at Gary) We may have to talk to him too. Gary: (nods) It's a good hunch we probably will. Spike: We'd better get out of here before they get back. With that, the foursome headed towards the front door. Gary brought up the rear, as he carefully noted Raye's and Eliza's reactions. Gary: (CC) I hate to do this to the girls, but I needed to find some way to get ahead. Maybe this will throw them off long enough so that they'll be the next to go. As for Spike... well, I don't know why he's doing this, but now I'm more suspicious of him than ever. ====== [Location: Team Headquarters - Second Floor Hallway Time: 3:15 p.m.] Eliza was making her way down the hall, with her notebook in hand. Reaching her destination, she knocked on the door. As expected, Mokuba was the one who answered it. Mokuba: Eliza? Eliza: Mokuba, I think we need to talk about what you told me last night. Mokuba peered out into the hall to make sure no one was listening. He then signaled Eliza to come in. Mokuba: (looking for his notebook) So, where do you want me to start? Eliza: Can I ask you something else first? Mokuba: (stops and turns to look at Eliza) What? Eliza takes a seat on the empty bed across from Mokuba's. Eliza: At lunch, Penny told me you walked out on her and Kim this morning. Mokuba: (turning away) I don't want to talk about it. Eliza: Why? Did they do something to offend you? Mokuba: (angrily) I said I don't want to talk about it! Eliza: Okay, fine. If you want to be that way. Mokuba: (sighs) I didn't mean to blow up at you like that, Eliza. It's just... I feel so confused. Eliza: Confused? Confused about what? Mokuba picked his notebook off of his desk and turned it to the notes he had taken yesterday afternoon. He then handed the notebook to Eliza. Mokuba: Here. Everything I noticed yesterday while at Naru's apartment. Eliza hesitates, not wanting to take the notebook. Eliza: Why can't you just tell me? After all, isn't that your notebook? Mokuba: So? Eliza: So? Mokuba, even though we're working together, there are probably some notes in there that you're keeping to yourself. Mokuba: I trust you. Eliza: Are you sure? How do you know I won't run out of this room right now and try to copy everything from it? Mokuba: Because I know you'd never do a thing like that. If I think you would, you would have already done it days ago! Eliza: Good point. Mokuba: (as Eliza takes his notebook) You know, I do think Naru is involved somehow. I don't think she's the thief... after all, we did see her on the videotape from the bank robbery. But she's definitely part of it. I just know it. Eliza: (not looking up as she writes in her notebook) That only helps us so much. Although we could question her about it, there's no guarantee we'll find a link between her and the actual robber. Mokuba: I guess you're right. Maybe we should forget about Naru. Eliza: We don't have to completely eliminate her just yet. Mokuba: I think we should. I mean, we never thought of her being a lead suspect until now. Eliza: That's true. Okay, we'll forget about Naru. Mokuba: Good. Eliza finishes copying the page and hands Mokuba his notebook back to him. Eliza: (getting up to leave) I'll see if anyone else is willing to share information. I'll be back later, okay? Mokuba: Yeah... sure. Eliza leaves, closing the door behind her. Eliza: (CC) Mokuba's acting really weird today, and I can't figure out why. I'm sure Kim and Penny wouldn't purposely keep him out of the investigation. So what could be bothering him? Mokuba: (CC) I don't know what to do. He holds up a picture of his older brother, Seto Kaiba, up to the camera. Mokuba: (CC, shaking his head) Big brother, I don't know what to do! ****** [Location: Team Headquarters - First Floor Lobby Time: 7:15 p.m.] Terry and Raye are wandering around headquarters in different directions, looking for two of their fellow detectives. Raye: (CC) During dinner, Terry told me that he wanted to expand our alliance to four. He wanted a majority with him. Terry: (CC) The idea is that hopefully the four of us will be able to get rid of the better competition. That will leave us to decide amongst ourselves who will solve the case and get that half-million dollar reward. In one corner of the room, Terry confronts Gary, who is staring out at the clear night sky. Terry: Gary, we need to talk. Gary: What about? Terry: Raye and I are adding to our alliance because we think having a majority say in the team will give us a better chance to solve the case. Gary: Really? Terry: (nods) It'll be you, me, Raye, and Penny. Speaking of which, Raye has gone upstairs and is talking to Penny, who now has her own room as well. Raye: Look Penny, it's simple. We're trying to take Kim out because Terry and I believe she already knows who the robber is. Penny: You really think she does? Raye: If she doesn't, she ought to be close. We think it's the same with Eliza and Mokuba. Penny: Maybe that's why he walked away from Kim and I this morning. He may already know if either Kizuna or Botan is our thief or not, and he doesn't want to risk blurting it out. Raye: I hope not. In any case, before the next quiz, we're going to meet to compare notes. Hopefully, we can all agree on one main suspect. Split-screen mode, with Gary and Terry on the left and Penny and Raye on the right. Gary: I don't think we can trust Penny though. She's been hanging around Kim too long. Penny: I'm not so sure about having Gary with us. He might backstab us and we wouldn't even know it! Terry: The alliance only lasts until we get rid of the other three. Raye: After that, it's every detective for himself... or herself. Gary: (shaking hands with Terry) Okay, I'm in! Penny: (rubbing her hands together) Let's do this thang! ====== [Location: Near the Watering Hole Time: 1:00 a.m.] The sounds of a female gasping for air can be heard as a shadowy figure continually dunks his/her captive's head in and out of the well. Eventually, the figure completes his/her work, as he/she drags his/her victim out of view. A minute later, the figure reappears in the camera's view, heads for the nearest building, and unlocks the door. He/she then goes inside, closing the door behind him/her. And leaving only a trail of wet footprints behind. ====== [Location: Team Headquarters - First Floor Lobby Date: Tuesday, October 29th, 2002 Time: 9:25 a.m.] The following morning, the seven remaining detectives were in the process of getting up, unaware of what had happened overnight. Things were eerily quiet as Gary sat down by the suspect board, mentally trying to figure out who to eliminate from his suspect list. Gary: (CC) I've gone for three different suspects on the first three quizzes. After the first, I would have been team leader had I finished faster than Kim. In Gary's notebook, we see he has a list of the 17 suspects still left on one side of the page. Some of the names do have small notes next to them. Gary: (CC) But after the last two, I nearly got sent home both times. So, I'm going back to my initial hunch. He writes the words 'don't know' beside Sally's name. Gary: (CC) We haven't seen hide or hair of this girl Sally since we've been here. I have no reason to believe she is the thief. But I also have no reason to believe she isn't. Raye: (as she walks down the stairs) Good morning! A scan around the room shows that Gary is not alone in the lobby, as Eliza and Penny are sitting on the stools by the bar... both of whom wave hello to Raye. Gary: (CC) My best chance is to hopefully feed off of what the others in my new alliance know. I hate to admit it, but I'm still stumped! ====== [Location: Buffalo Buffet Restaurant] At that exact same time, Terry was eating breakfast while sitting alone at a nearby restaurant. He was lazy picking at a half-eaten eggroll that was still on his plate. All of a sudden, someone plopped their tray down in front of him. Terry looked up and saw Ken, the explosives expert from the movie set, taking a seat at the table. Ken: You mind? Terry: No. Not at all. Ken begins to eat the plate of fried rice and vegetables before him, stopping occasionally to talk to Terry. Ken: So, how's the case going? Terry: Not bad. Say, aren't you... Ken: Oh... I don't think we've met personally. Ken Taki, explosives expert. Terry: Terry McGinnis. The two of them shake hands, then resume their eating. Terry: You said you were an explosives expert? Ken: Yep. Work down on the movie set... though there hasn't been much work to speak of since... Terry: Since Sally Acorn disappeared. Ken: Right. Terry: How long have you known her? Ken: About a month. None of us in this production had worked together in the past. Except for Judy and I. Terry: Judy? Ken: Judith Funnie, the director. Terry: (remember Judy's picture) Oh, yeah. I remember her now. Ken: You haven't been on the movie set at all since you've been here, right? Terry: Not really. Ken takes out his business card from his pocket and hands it to Terry. Ken: Whenever you get some free time, come drop by the set and I'll show you a few personal tricks of mine. Terry pockets the card and then stands up to go drop his tray. Terry: Sure. As he starts to walk away... Ken: Oh, one more thing. Bring that dark-skinned girl with you. Terry: You mean Penny? Ken: Yeah, Penny. I'd like to see her again too. Terry: (rolling his eyes) Okay, sure. Terry walks off, leaving Ken to eat the rest of his breakfast. ====== [Location: Team Headquarters - First Floor Lobby Time: 9:40 a.m.] Penny: He said that? Terry: Obviously, the guy wants to see you for some reason. Penny: You don't think... Terry: (shook his head) Naaaa. He doesn't seem like that type of person. Penny: (thinks for a minute) Do you think we should take him up on his offer? Terry: This may be the break we're looking for. Just make sure not to tell anyone about it. Penny: Not even Raye or Gary? Terry: No. We don't want to get their hopes up. Or get them suspicious of us. Penny: Okay... when? Terry: Tomorrow... if you're still here. Penny: (sarcastically) Thanks for the vote of confidence! Terry: (winks at her) Don't worry! We'll make sure we all make it through tonight. ====== [Time: 10:30 a.m.] Chris had arrived at HQ just minutes ago, and now all the detectives were gathered for the morning briefing. Chris: Good morning. I trust you all had a good sleep last night, because it's back to work today. He starts off by pointing to Buzz and Spike's pictures. Chris: Sheriff Lightyear and Deputy Spiegel found something very interesting this morning by the watering hole. He needs two of you to go there and check it out. He then directs the group's attention to Naru's picture. Chris: Meanwhile, Naru Narusegawa, who lives right by the aforementioned well, couldn't be found this morning. She's not at home or at work. But someone claimed to see her near the south end of town about 15 minutes ago. I need four of you to search that half of town for her. Chris glances at Terry, the current team leader. Chris: Terry, the decision is now yours. Who will you be sending where? Terry responded almost immediately. Terry: I want Gary and Kim to go to the watering hole, and everyone else to go look for Naru. Gary and Kim gasped in shock, obviously surprised and unhappy about being paired together. Gary: (CC) Of all the people Terry had to pair me up with, why Kim? Kim: (CC) I can't believe this! I have to work with Gary? Raye: Terry, do you know what you're doing? Terry: Of course. I don't think there's anyone better here than those two. Raye: But they don't exactly like each other. And what if they spend all their time fighting instead of searching for clues? Terry: We just have to hope that's not the case. Gary: (to Kim) Just stay out of my way! Kim: (to Gary) Fine! As long as you stay out of mine! ====== [Location: Watering Hole Time: 10:50 a.m.] As Gary and Kim arrived on the scene, they saw that there were already several townspeople gathered there. The twosome pushed their way through the crowds until they reached the yellow tape that kept the spectators from getting any closer. Gary and Kim sneak under the tape and walk up to the watering hole. Besides them, the only ones on the scene were Buzz, Spike, Lois, and Peter. Spike was talking to Lois while Peter was over by Buzz, taking pictures of something or someone. Spike: We definitely suspect foul play at work here. Lois: (taking notes) Right. Any suspects? Spike: We have a few, but until we complete our investigation, we will not release the list to the public. Kim: Deputy Spiegel! Spike: Pardon me a minute, Miss Lane. Spike turned to talk to Gary and Kim. Gary: (looking around) Gee, what happened here? Kim: Yeah. What's the sitch? Spike: See for yourselves. Spike headed over to where Buzz and Peter were. Gary and Kim followed closely behind. They saw Buzz kneeling beside someone who was covered up by a white sheet. Kim: (stops and gasps) No. It can't be! Gary: You mean someone got... Buzz: (looking at them) Sent to the shining star in the sky? Yeah. Buzz stood up and shook hands with both detectives. Buzz: Glad you could make it Gary, Kim. I just wish it were under better circumstances. Kim: So... who's under the sheet? Buzz: Are you sure you kids can handle it? Gary: Of course! (looking at Kim) I don't think she can though. Kim: I can take anything you can and more. (to Buzz) Let's see it. Buzz knelt back down beside the covered body. He took a deep breath, then slowly pulled the sheet off to reveal the body of... ****** Gary and Kim let a slight gasp escape their mouths as they saw that the murder victim was the only suspect none of the detectives had ever gotten to interrogate. The formerly missing... and now deceased... Sally Acorn. Kim: Sally, the star actress? Buzz: I'm afraid so. Rather tragic. Gary: I'll say. Still, she looks rather peaceful, as if she were just sleeping. Spike: We wish that were the case. But she's no longer with us. Kim: (already looking Sally's body over) Doesn't look like there are any blood stains. Unless... well... you know. Gary: Just say it already! Buzz: I'll say it. You think her species doesn't bleed the same way humans do, right? Kim: Well, sorta... Buzz: We checked that out already. She's like any other human. Only she's a humanoid squirrel, that is. Spike: There were signs of a struggle, but we don't think she was strangled to death either. Gary: Then what? Kim: (snaps her fingers) Of course! Buzz: Someone drowned her in the well. Kim: So at least we know how she was killed. But who and why? Spike: It's that thief that's been terrorizing our town for the past week and a half. Who else do we have to suspect? Buzz: No one, really. Gary walked over to the watering hole itself and carefully searched for any minute clue that might help him solve the case... a strand of hair, an ID tag, a piece of clothing... anything. Kim: When did you find her body? Buzz: Someone knocked on my door this morning. Probably three hours ago or so. Mira informed of it. Kim: Mira? Who's Mira? Buzz: Oh, you don't know? She's my other deputy. Gary: (walking back over) And where has she been this whole time? Buzz: On vacation. She wasn't supposed to come back until this afternoon, so I was quite surprised when she woke me up this morning. Suddenly, someone stuck her head out of the second floor wall... yes, her head... of Naru's apartment. Kim: (stepping back) Okay... that is not normal. Gary: What's up with her? Princess Mira Nova, one of Buzz's deputies (and rookie partners on their show) yelled down to her superior. Mira: You're right Buzz! She didn't leave any lead as to where she ran off to. You know, where she went to avoid the media, or maybe hide from us. I don't know. Buzz: Good work, Ranger... eh, Deputy Nova. Continue searching for clues. Mira: (saluting Buzz) Aye aye, Buzz! Mira's head then ghosted back through the wall and into the apartment. Buzz: As you can see, she's a Tangean. They have the ability to ghost through walls. Kim: (a bit stunned) That's... nice to know. Gary: I wonder what it would be like to have that kind of power. ====== [Location: South end of Gullible Gulch] As for the missing Naru, Eliza, Mokuba, Penny, and Raye were searching high and low for her. Eliza and Mokuba were searching one side of the street, while Penny and Raye checked the other. Eliza: Naru! Naru, where are you? Mokuba: Are you around here? Penny: Hello! Naru! (sighs, then yells to Eliza and Mokuba) It's no use! We're not gonna find her! Raye: (shouting) Hey guys! Over here! The trio runs down the street to where Raye is kneeling in front of a window. She points inside as the others reach her. Upon following to where Raye's finger was pointing, they saw the back of somebody's brown head of hair. Raye: (lowering her voice) Keep your voices down. We don't want her to run away. The four of them inched their way to the door. Raye slowly pulled it open, but almost freaked out as the door creaked its way out. Somehow, Eliza, Mokuba, Penny, and Raye make it inside. They hide behind some empty crates so that Naru didn't see them. And indeed, although Naru couldn't see who had just come in, she was aware that they were there. Naru: (shouting) I know you're in here! You'd better hope I don't find you! Raye quietly pointed to Eliza and Mokuba and told them to go one way. Once they snuck off, she signaled for Penny to follow her. For about an entire minute, the five souls quietly creeped around the building, not knowing who might be waiting around the next corner. And then, Naru appears, bringing down a flashlight that she had been holding above her head. Luckily, no one was there. But there was someone behind her. Raye: (taking the flashlight from Naru) I'll take that. Penny: (appearing in front of them) Okay, the jig is up! You're surrounded! Naru realizes she has nowhere to go, as Eliza and Mokuba appear behind Penny. Raye: Okay, what's with the disappearing act? Is there something you're hiding from us? Naru: (turning around and yelling) How can you NOT KNOW ALREADY? Raye: (rubbing her ears) Ow! You don't have to yell! Penny: What are you talking about? Naru: You mean you haven't heard? Sheriff Lightyear found somebody dead by the watering hole this morning. Eliza, Mokuba, and Penny: (gasping together) Someone died? Raye: Who? Naru: I don't know who... I'm not sure. ====== [Location: Watering Hole Time: 7:59 a.m.] Naru: I had arisen that morning at 7:45, realizing that I was late for work! Naru had just gotten out of the shower, with one pink towel wrapped around her body and a second around her hair. Naru: It was then that I heard a lot of noise from outside. Naru glances out the window and sees Mira pointing Buzz towards a small formation of rocks near the watering hole. Naru: I saw one of the sheriff's deputies leading him to something that was hidden. And when I saw them pull it out, I was shocked! She runs out of the bathroom... Naru: I immediately put my clothes on and got out of there. I didn't want the sheriff asking me any questions about it. And reappears fully dressed as she takes a moment to peer out the window one more time. Raye: (VO) Why's that? Naru: Because I'm tired of answering questions, alright! Haven't I suffered enough after everything that's happened? ====== [Location: South end of Gullible Gulch Time: 11:10 a.m.] Naru: I told you everything I know! Now will you just leave me alone? Raye: (turning to the others) Let's head back to headquarters. Naru: Please! Don't tell anybody I'm hiding here! The three girls and Mokuba looked at each other before glancing at Naru and nodding their heads in agreement. Eliza: We promise not to tell. Naru: (finally cracking a smile) Thanks. I appreciate it. The foursome walks out of the abandoned house and back to headquarters. ====== [Location: Team Headquarters - First Floor Lobby Time: 11:35 a.m.] Kim and Gary were returning to headquarters, where the others were waiting. Terry had already been informed by the first group that someone had been killed. Now all that was left was for them to hear from Kim and Gary who. Terry: Who is it? Gary: (catching on quickly) Sally Acorn. Kim: Sheriff Lightyear found her body near the watering hole. Drowned to death... unfortunately. Raye: (lowering her head) The poor girl. We never got to meet her in person. Eliza: Why does it have to be this way? Penny: (wiping a tear from her eye) Yeah... why? Terry: I wish I knew. We all wish we knew. Raye: Let's have a moment of silence and prayer for the departed soul of Sally Acorn. The seven of them stand their silently for a minute, reflecting on what they had just discovered in the past hour. Raye: (CC) Sometimes it's hard to distinguish what's part of the game and what's real. I can't believe something like this would happen. Penny: (CC) It's hard to lose someone you've cared so much above. I'm betting everyone who's near and dear to her is crying their eyes out. (sniffles) And I am too. Terry: (CC) All I want to know is, how far is someone really willing to go just to get ahead in life? I won't stand for this! Whomever this thief, this robber, this killer is... you're going down. ====== [Location: Team Headquarters - Second Floor Time: 2:15 p.m.] Kim is in her room, sitting on her bed. She was the only person who still shared a room, but her roommate Raye was out taking a walk. So Kim decided to spend this time gathering her notes. But even though her notebook sat in her lap, she couldn't take her mind off of what she and Gary had found at the watering hole just hours ago. Kim: (CC) You think that I'd be used to seeing... you know, someone not alive... because I do the teen hero thing. Sure, it's a constant worry for me... I always have this nagging feeling that something will go wrong. That I'll get hurt, or Ron will... or even the bad guys. She sighs and rests her head on her left palm. Kim: (CC) No matter how good or bad a person may be, you don't want to see them die. Especially if you have a chance to save them. I thought that we could save Sally from meeting her end, but it didn't work. Getting up from her bed and not paying attention to her notebook, which fell to the floor, she walked over to the window and knelt in front of it. She gazed out the window and up to the sky, noting the dark clouds that seemed to be gathering over the town. Kim: (CC) That's the part of my job I don't like. You think you can save everyone... then something like this happens and all of a sudden I'm like, 'Where do I go from here?' ====== [Location: Team Headquarters - First Floor Lobby Time: 3:00 p.m.] The seven detectives were making their way to the lobby, where Chris was waiting for them. He too seemed saddened by the events of the day. Chris: It is a sad day for us all. As you all probably already known, Sally Acorn, who had been missing for a week and a half, was found dead at 7:34 this morning. Sheriff Lightyear has pinpointed the cause of death to be drowning. There are still no motives or a suspect list as of yet. But we're pretty sure the person who is behind the bank robbery and all of the thefts is also responsible for this murder. Slowly, Chris walks over to the suspect board and X's Sally's picture out. Chris: This is a tragic loss, I'm sure. And I know it's affecting all of you greatly. So, I'm offering you all a chance to walk out of this. Please take a moment to think about it, because once you make your decision, you cannot back out of it. Each of the detectives begin to think about what to do. Chris: Okay. Does anybody want to quit now? The entire group looks around to see if anyone has raised their hand. No one has at all. Chris: You are all willing to continue with this case, despite the circumstances? They all nodded. Kim then raised her hand. Chris: Kim? Kim: (standing up) Can I just say something? Chris: Go ahead. Kim: (glancing at her peers) I know that we've had a rough day. It's even hit me pretty hard. Still, we can't spend time moping around. We've got to catch this thief, this robber... this murderer. And then we've got to bring him or her to justice! Raye: (jumping up and clenching her fist) I agree, Kim! We'll show this guy not to mess with us! Chris: (smiles) I'm glad you're all so enthusiastic about this. Tonight, you will be taking your fourth quiz, and another one of you will be going home. Penny: How can you expect us to take a quiz after this? Gary: A woman just got killed, and you expect us to perform on this quiz? Chris: (laughs) I'm surprised how quickly you all forget that this is just a game. Everything happens for a reason. Now, I know you're all upset for Sally's passing, but if you can't get your head back in the game, how can I expect you to help find who the bad guy is? Chris began to walk out. Chris: I'll see you all at City Hall tonight. ====== [Location: Team Headquarters - Second Floor Time: 5:00 p.m.] Eliza is in Mokuba's room, venting to him as he packs his things for tonight. Eliza: I can't believe this! I don't think I can think about something this important tonight. Mokuba: It seems pretty hopeless, doesn't it? Eliza: We can't believe that! We've got to pull through this somehow. Mokuba: I know you'll figure a way out for us. ====== [Time: 5:30 p.m.] Terry, Raye, Gary, and Penny are having their first meeting as an official alliance. Sitting in Terry's room, the four are comparing notes carefully as they prepare for the quiz. Terry: So we think Kou may have something to do with it too? Raye: Just like we believe Naru may be involved? Yeah. Penny: (shaking her head) This is all so confusing! Gary: I can't believe I'm saying this... but I still don't know who to pick. Terry: (CC) Losing Sally is something that will linger in all of our minds. But I have to help my fellow alliance members survive tonight so that we can go after this guy and put him behind bars once and for all. ====== [Location: Gullible Gulch City Hall - Lobby Time: 7:00 p.m.] With everyone but Terry carrying their belongings, the group enters City Hall, where Chris is waiting for them. Chris: Fate can sometimes through us a cruel hand. Today, we reached a low point in our investigation. Luckily, we can only go up from here. One of you, though, will remain on that low, because you will be going home tonight. Terry, come with me. Everyone else, good luck. ====== [Location: Gullible Gulch City Hall - Assorted Offices on 1st & 2nd Floors] Chris: (VO) It's time for the quiz: ten questions that will test their knowledge about the case and their fellow detectives. Today's events may have been mind-shattering, but who has managed to recover from it? (Author's Note: You know what to do, FL players!) Terry seems to be looking at Raye's belongings as he waits for the quiz to be over. Chris: (VO) Only Terry McGinnis is safe tonight. All of the others must now fight to remain in the game. Terry: (CC) I hope everything works out. Chris: (VO) Question One: On the morning of Day 6, was the thief inside the bank? (Choices: 1 - Yes 2 - No) Gary: (CC) No one else knew about Kou planting that document other than me. But did he do that because he wants us to figure out he's the thief, or did he do that just to throw us off? Chris: (VO) Question Two: Who was the first detective to talk to the thief? (Choices: 1 - Bobby 2 - Eliza 3 - Gary 4 - Kim 5 - Mokuba 6 - Penny 7 - Raye 8 - Terry 9 - Wufei 10 - Zoe) Mokuba moved his mouse among the choices, unable to decide which one to pick. Kim: (CC) Every time something major comes up, someone from the movie crew is involved. I have my doubts on whether some of them are telling me the truth. Chris: (VO) Question Three: What did Spike find at the bank? (Choices: 1 - A fingerprint 2 - A videotape 3 - A photograph 4 - A hair sample 5 - A piece of paper) Eliza answers the question quickly and moves on. Chris: (VO) Question Four: What is the thief's nationality (or nationality they are closest to)? (Choices: 1 - Japanese 2 - American 3 - Chinese 4 - Italian 5 - None of the Above or Not Listed) Penny: (CC) Something's been bothering me about Ken. Today, he told Terry he wanted to see me. It's creepy if you ask me. Raye: (CC) I'm just sticking with the majority. Chris: (VO) Question Five: About what time was Sally Acorn's body found? (Choices: 1 - 7:00 2 - 7:10 3 - 7:20 4 - 7:30 5 - 7:40 6 - 7:50 7 - 8:00) Kim thinks for a minute, as she tries to remember the answer. Chris: (VO) Question Six: To this point, does the thief have at least one other person from their show here in Gullible Gulch? (Choices: 1 - Yes 2 - No) Mokuba: (CC) I think most of the suspects would have someone here by now. Chris: (VO) Question Seven: How did Naru keep from being detained by Buzz and his deputies? (Choices: 1 - Ran out the front door 2 - Jumped out the window from her second floor apartment 3 - Hid in the closet 4 - Walked through an underground passage) Gary: (CC) That's funny... I don't remember anyone telling me how Naru got away from the police. Chris: (VO) Question Eight: On which end of town is the thief mostly seen in? (Choices: 1 - North end 2 - South end 3 - About equal time on both ends) Raye considers her choices carefully, then clicks on one of the answers. Chris: (VO) Question Nine: How many letters are in the thief's last name? (Choices: 1 - 4 2 - 5 3 - 6 4 - 7 5 - 8 6 - 9 7 - 10 8 - No given last name) Eliza: (CC) I'm sticking with who I've suspected almost since the beginning. It hasn't steered me wrong yet. Penny: (CC) After Spike found that document on Kou's desk, it made me very suspicious of the bank manager. Chris: (VO) Question Ten: Who is the thief? (Choices: 1 - Bart 2 - Botan 3 - Buzz 4 - Ed 5 - Hercule 6 - Judy 7 - Ken 8 - Kizuna 9 - Kou 10 - Lois 11 - Mario 12 - Naru 13 - Ryoko 14 - Sakura 15 - Spike 16 - Velma) ====== [Location: Gullible Gulch City Hall -- Meeting Hall Time: 7:51 p.m.] The entire group, including Terry, is now gathered in the Meeting Hall and is awaiting the results of the quiz. Chris then enters, holding the manila envelope in his hand. Chris: Same as usual, guys. Lowest three scorers will be called up to the stage. I'll give them time to say what they wanna say, and then I'll announce who's going home tonight. That person must pick up their things and leave with me immediately. Let's get to it. Flipping to the backside of the envelope, Chris announces the low three. Chris: Tonight's low three are Mr. Oak, Mr. Kaiba, and Miss Hino. The threesome step up on stage as the remaining detectives watch with interest. Chris: Each of you have been up here before. Mokuba, this is your second time, but it's been awhile since you've graced us with your presence. For Gary and Raye... this is the third time! Gary, it's been three in a row for you! Isn't it time for one of you to go yet? Raye: I know I'm guessing wrong on the dang quiz... I just don't know where! Gary: All day long, I keep telling people that I've been confused from the start. Obviously, I'm still confused. Mokuba: I wish you both good luck... because I don't think it's time for either of you to go yet. Raye and Gary shoot odd glances at Mokuba as Chris begins to open the envelope. He pulled an index card out of it, with the name on it only visible to him. Chris: Mokuba, the last time you were up here was five days ago. That night, four people tied for the lowest score. Tonight, two of you three up here are tied for the lowest score. And thusly, the person that is sent home tonight is the one that took the longest to complete tonight's quiz. Chris sighed as he prepared to flip the card over. Chris: We've been here a week, but tonight the fourth detective to leave the game of "Mystery Solvers" is... The card is turned over to reveal the name of... Chris: Mokuba Kaiba. Mokuba nods as Raye kneels down to give him a hug. After that, he shakes hands with Gary. He then heads off-stage to get his bags. But on his way out, the other detectives also wish him farewell. Kim, Penny, and Eliza hug him as well, with the latter giving him a big one, and Terry gives him a pat on the back. Finally, Mokuba follows Chris out of the room. Gary: I know I should be happy after missing the cut for the third time in a row, but I can't help but feel sorry for the little guy. Though I can't put my finger on why. Raye: Mokuba's really mature for his age. Getting this far in the game and not complaining about it once... that's what I call unconditional dedication! Eliza: Ever since Bobby left the game what seems like weeks ago, Mokuba and I promised each other that we would stand behind each other. I have no idea how he ended up on stage without me being with him. But I do wish him well, and hope that we'll see each other again one day. ====== A cab waits for Mokuba and Chris outside as the host carries the young Kaiba's bags for him. He then throws them into the trunk. Chris: Did you have fun while you were here, Mokuba? Mokuba: Definitely. Everybody seemed to be really supportive of me in there. No one wished ill of me because I was always so nice. Chris: What did you think of your friendship with Eliza? Mokuba: Eliza's great! She stuck by my side through thick and thin, even in those brief times when no one else would. I think it's because we're almost the same age. I was more likely to get along with her than anyone else. Chris: Who do you think is going to win? Mokuba: It's probably a long shot, but I hope it ends up being Gary. He reminds me so much of Seto.
