A lot of stuff happens in this chapter, including Misty's crazy battle with Blaine. What do I mean by crazy? Don't blink, and read on! Here's chapter 11! Disclaimer: Scott and his personality were created by Globie. I'm just trying to make him fit into the story. Peggy was created just as a fill-in for one of the events in this chapter. ************************************************************************ Thursday, April 7, Cinnabar Island Ferry A ferryboat creeps its way along the water towards Cinnabar Island, with hundreds of people, mostly tourists, watching the passing waves. Among them are our heroes, Misty, Scott, Todd, and Mikey. Narrator: After walking for what seemed like eternity, our heroes will soon finally arrive at Cinnabar Island, where Misty will try to earn a Volcano Badge from Blaine. Misty: I can't wait to get there! I'm so anxious to battle Blaine! Todd: Are you sure you should go there directly? I've heard that Blaine's one tough gym leader to fight, much less find on this tourist trap. Mikey: Yeah. I heard that only one in every twenty trainers that face him beat him on the first try. Misty: I guess you two are right, but whom am I going to find to build up some experience for my Pokémon? Scott: What about me? Misty: What about you, Scott? Scott: I've got six Pokémon; you've got six Pokémon. Why don't I offer you a practice match? Misty: Okay, we'll have one just as soon as we arrive on... Mikey: (pointing ahead) Look! There's Cinnabar Island! The foursome looks ahead and notices all of the people already wandering around the place. Todd: If you guys are planning to battle, I'd like to see you find a good spot in there! It was true, there seemed like there wasn't a single place to do a safe battle out in an open field. Misty and the others sighed, knowing they were in for quite a struggle once they reached shore. ************************************************************************ Adventures Series, Season 1 [Episode 26] "Misty's Travels to the Pokémon League" Chapter Eleven: "The Heat is On" Story written by Freedom Fighter ************************************************************************ As the passengers made their way off the boat, the gang struggled to keep together in the continuously moving crowd. It was of no use, though, as soon the four of them were each pulled towards a different part of town. Misty: (yelling out) Scott! Mikey! Todd! Where are you guys? Scott: (over near a fruit stand) Misty! Todd! Mikey! I'm over here! Mikey: (near a restaurant) Misty! Scott! Todd! Please don't leave me behind again! Todd: (yelling over the crowd) Misty! Scott! Mikey! You've just got to see this strange looking fossil I just found! They each had to stop their yelling, especially Misty, who was being pushed away from the docks by the crowd. She eventually gave up and decided to go with the flow. The crowd thinned as she eventually ended up at the Pokémon Research Lab. Misty: Well, the guys won't mind if I take a break and see what's new in the world of Pokémon. Misty follows a small group of tourists in as another tour of the lab begins. Meanwhile, Mikey was searching for the others, but he was getting trampled in the crowd. Mikey: Can someone please help me? (pulls out his silver locket, points to Misty's picture) Has anyone seen this girl? A young man comes up and looks at the locket. Mikey: Have you seen my friend, sir? Young Man: Nope, but if I see her, I'll give her a spanking she'll never forget! An Officer Jenny comes along and pushes the young man out of the way. Jenny: Move along, mister! I'll handle this. Young Man: If you say so. (winks at Mikey) I'll keep my eye out for her! He he. The young man then runs off to avoid getting into any more trouble. Jenny: Don't worry about him. Kids like him just like to show off to outsiders. Speaking of which, what are you doing out here by yourself? Mikey: (shows Jenny the picture of Misty) I'm looking for this girl. She's a friend of mine. We got separated when we got of the ferry with two of my other traveling partners. Jenny: I'm sorry, I haven't seen her. If she's here on the island, though, I'll find her! Even in a crowd like this, I always manage to get my job done! Mikey: Thanks, Officer Jenny! You're the best! Jenny: No problem. Now come with me, so you won't have to worry about getting lost. Jenny takes Mikey's hand and leads him to the police station, where she is heading to retrieve her motorcycle. Scott, on the other hand, was getting a special item from a friend of his. Scott: Thanks for putting this together for me on such short notice, Peggy! Peggy: No problem, Scott! That TM should take care of the problems you've been having. Scott: I'm sure it will. Peggy: Would you like to stay for tea? Scott: I'd love to, but I've got to find my friends. I'm helping someone win a Volcano Badge. Peggy: Well, good luck to them. Blaine's one of the toughest you'll find that doesn't live on the mainland. Scott: Yeah, I've heard a lot about him. Fire trainer, right? Peggy: Right. I'd tell your friend to have a lot of water Pokémon on hand. Scott: Don't worry, she has. Thanks again! Scott waves good-bye as he runs off to find Misty, who just happens to be coming out of the lab from the tour. Scott: Misty! Misty: Scott! Am I glad to see you! Scott: Same here. Seen Todd or Mikey around? Misty: No. I'm especially worried about Mikey, him being so young. I was supposed to be looking out for him! Scott: Don't worry, it's not your fault! I'm sure we'll find him. Misty: What about Todd? Todd: What about me? Todd came walking up to the duo, with a small bump protruding from his head. Misty: Todd! What happened? Todd: While I was looking for you guys, I found this rare Pokémon fossil. Unfortunately, about a dozen people saw me find it, and they all jumped on me. One of them managed to run away and take it for himself. (sigh) I didn't even get to photograph it. Scott: That's too bad. Something like that would've gotten you a fortune! Misty: Forget about the fossil you two! We've got to find Mikey! Suddenly, Jenny comes riding up to them on her motorcycle, with Mikey clinging to her waist. Jenny: (to Mikey) Is this girl the one you were talking about? Mikey: Yes. That's my friend, Misty! Jenny pulls the motorcycle to a stop in front of the trio, and she and Mikey get off. Misty: Mikey! Mikey: (runs up and hugs Misty) Misty! I'm glad to see you again! Misty: Me too. Are you okay? Mikey: (as he pulls himself away) Yeah, I'm fine, thanks to Officer Jenny here. Jenny: It was nothing, Mikey. I'm just doing my job! Scott: Officer Jenny... you look like the one that was at Misty's party in Stone Town! Todd: It's because all of the Jennys look alike, Scott. Jenny: Yeah. It's a family trait that's been passed down from generation to generation. Scott: Wow. I wonder what happens when all of the Jennys get together... Jenny's pager suddenly beeps, and she gets back on her motorcycle. Jenny: There's a disturbance near the docks. I've gotta go. Mikey: Thanks again, Jenny! Misty: Jenny, before you go, you wouldn't mind pointing us to a training field, would you? Jenny smiled, and gave them a map to find the field. Down at the docks, people run in fear as a Gyarados submarine rides onto the pavement and stops in the middle of the street. Jessie, James, and Persian step out, with Pokéballs in hand. Jessie: Citizens of Cinnabar Island, prepare for trouble! James: Get ready to rumble, and make that double! Jenny: (running into the scene) Team Rocket! Stop right there! Persian: Oh great, it's Officer Jenny! Quick, run, before we end up in jail just like Cassidy and Butch! Jessie: (smacking Persian with her fan) Don't ever mention HER name in my presence! James: Who cares who Persian's mentioning, I just don't want to be in jail! Jessie: Right! Let's go! Team Rocket's... James: Blasting off... Persian: Once again! The three take off running, with Officer Jenny following not too far behind. At the open field, Misty and Scott stand at opposite ends, Todd in the middle acting as judge, and Mikey sitting on the grass while feeding his Eevee. Mikey: (giving Eevee a grape) Here's another one, Eevee! Eevee: Vee! Todd: Okay, you two, three on three, no items, all of the standard rules. Got it? Misty and Scott nod in agreement. Todd: Okay, then, begin! Misty: (throwing a Pokéball) Misty calls Vaporeon! Vaporeon: Por! Mikey: Neat! Misty: Thanks, Mikey. Scott: (throwing his Pokéball) Pidgeot, go! Pidgeot comes flying out, ready to battle. Misty: Vaporeon, water gun! Scott: Pidgeot, gust attack! The winds redirected the water in several different directions, including some near Todd, who pulled back to avoid getting his camera wet. Todd: Hey, be careful! Cameras don't come cheap, you know! Misty: Vaporeon, aurora beam! Vaporeon fires the aurora beam straight at Pidgeot. Scott: Pidgeot, agility! Pidgeot moves out of the way just in time. He then reappears right in front of Vaporeon. Scott: Pidgeot, whirlwind! Pidgeot blows Vaporeon off her feet, but the water Pokémon gets back up. Misty: Vaporeon, hydro pump now! The hydro pump hits hard and fast, knocking Pidgeot out of the sky. Pidgeot tries to shake the water out of his wings, while Vaporeon charges for him. Misty: Vaporeon, quick attack! Scott: Pidgeot, use your own quick attack! The two Pokémon move quickly all over the field, each waiting for the other to slow down long enough to get hit. Eventually, both Pokémon tire out, and fall panting to the ground. Misty: (sarcastically) Oh, great, they're exhausted! Scott: Pidgeot, hang in there! Give me one more gust attack! Misty: Vaporeon, sand attack, then tackle it! Pidgeot manages to use his wings to release one more small gust of wind, but Vaporeon dodges and blinds Pidgeot, then tackles him unconscious. Scott: Not bad, Misty! Misty: Thanks, Scott! But I'm just getting started! Todd: Round one goes to Misty! Mikey: Go, Misty! Eevee: Vee! Scott: (recalling Pidgeot) Okay, let's try this one. (throws another Pokéball) Vileplume, go! Vileplume: Vileplume! Misty: (recalling Vaporeon) Vaporeon, return! (throws another Pokéball) Misty calls Tentacool! Scott: Vileplume, stun spore! Misty: Tentacool, poison sting! Vileplume is a little quicker on the draw, and the stun spore reaches Tentacool before she can fire her poisonous thorn. Misty: Tentacool! Scott: Vileplume, petal dance! Vileplume: Plume! Vileplume is suddenly surrounded by a mass amount of floating petals. The petals then start flying at Tentacool at an alarming rate. They are easily hitting the mark. Tentacool recovers from the spore to get back in the match. Misty: All right! Tentacool's back! Now... use your wrap attack! Scott: Vileplume, sleep powder! Tentacool gets her hands on Vileplume and starts to steal the plant's energy away. Unfortunately, the sleep powder has finally reached Tentacool, who falls asleep instantly. Vileplume escapes from Tentacool's tentacles and prepares to finish the jellyfish. Scott: Vileplume, let's get another helping of the petal dance! That does it, as Tentacool, unable to defend herself, falls to Vileplume's petals. Misty: Wow! That's one powerful Vileplume! Scott: (stroking Vileplume's petals) I know. Vileplume's the best! Misty: (picking up Tentacool) Looks like Tentacool's not ready for this level of competition yet. Scott: Don't worry. A trip to the Pokémon Center and she'll be fine. Todd: The second round goes to Scott! Mikey: Yeah! Nice job, Scott! Eevee: Eevee! Todd: Now it's time for the third and final round! Misty: Tentacool, return! Scott: Vileplume, return! The two Pokémon return to their Pokéballs, and the two trainers pull out their third and final Pokéball. Todd: It's time to begin! Misty: (throwing her last Pokéball) Misty calls Poliwrath! The muscle bearing water Pokémon comes out of her Pokéball. Scott smiles, and prepares to throw his Pokéball out. Scott: Nice choice, Misty. A Poliwrath! (throws his Pokéball) Time to introduce you to my best friend, Kelly! Misty: Kelly? Mikey: Who's Kelly? Todd: Is she my age? Scott: Actually, Kelly's a male. Kelly came out of his Pokéball. The white light disappeared and in its place stood a Pikachu. Todd: Wha! Misty: Kelly's a Pikachu? Mikey: Wow! Just like Ash! Eevee: Vee eevee! Scott: Ready to battle, Kelly? Kelly: Pika! Misty: (in thought) Scott has a Pikachu! If I can beat him, then it shows I've got promise against Ash's Pikachu. (to Poliwrath) Hypnosis attack, Poliwrath! Scott: Kelly, double team! Misty: Double team? Todd: Man, this is exciting! I've gotta get a picture of this! Kelly splits into two forms, both dodging Poliwrath's hypnosis attack. They charge towards Poliwrath, ready to battle. Scott: Kelly, thunder bolt! Kelly: Pikachuuuuuuuu! Both Kellys throw a thunder bolt at Poliwrath, weakening her significantly. Misty: Oh no! Poliwrath! Kelly then re-merged back into one. He looked confident, ready to finish the match. Scott: Okay, Kelly, another thunder bolt should do the trick! Just as Kelly was about to charge up, a net falls from the sky and drapes over the Pikachu. Kelly tries to break through, but the wires are insulated. Scott: What sort of trickery is this? Todd: Um, guys, I think you'd better look who's coming to join us. Todd points down the hill, as the group sees Jessie, James, and Persian run up the hill with a giant bazooka. Jessie: Get ready to surrender! James: We're coming through! Persian: And we're not going to quit until we've got all of your Pokémon! ************************************************************************ "The Misty Files" Contest, Clue # 3 - The correct scene involves one and only one Pokémon that's very hard to find out in the wild. ************************************************************************ Jessie, James, and Persian finally reach the top of the hill, ready for a fight. Misty: Oh no! It's the three clowns again! Jessie: Clowns? We'll show you! Prepare for trouble! James: And make it double! Jessie: To protect the world from devastation! James: To unite all peoples within our nation! Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love! James: To extend our reach to the stars above! Jessie: Jessie! James: James! Jessie: Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light! James: Surrender now or prepare to fight! Persian: Persian! I don't like it, but it's still right! Mikey: What do you want this time? James: We're going to steal all of our Pokémon! Jessie: (hitting James on the head) Why would we want to steal our Pokémon? We're going to steal their Pokémon! James: Oh yeah! That's right! Persian: (scratches up James' face) That's my line! James: (holds his face in pain) Ouch! That hurt! Scott: (sighs) Are you guys going to fight us or just stand there arguing all day? Jessie: We're going to fight! James: First things first, though. Where's the girl with the Ditto? Misty: You mean Duplica? I don't know, she left us after we departed from the Safari Zone... but even if I knew where she was, I wouldn't tell you three! James: Rats! I'm tired of her ruining our plans! Persian: Yeah. She's even more useful than the scrawny kid over there. Misty: (getting angry) Scrawny! I'll show you who's scrawny! Scott: (holding Misty back) Misty, I think you'd better let me handle this. Why don't you, Todd, and Mikey head up to the gym and try to beat Blaine? Misty: (calming down) Oh, okay. Jessie: Hey! Who said you could go anywhere anyway? James: Someone's going to pay for letting Zapdos get away! Persian: And in addition, making us use the last of our Master Balls! Scott: Well, allow me to add to your misery! Scott pulls out a small pocketknife and cuts the net open, freeing Kelly. Scott: There you go, Kelly! Now, let's get ready to rumble! Kelly: Pika! Persian: Oh great, the muscle guy's got a Pikachu! Scott: For one thing, my Pikachu's name is Kelly. And second, my name isn't "muscle guy," it's Scott McGwire. Jessie: Scott McGwire? Never heard of ya. James: I don't care if you're name is mud! You ruined our chance of getting Zapdos, and you're going to pay for it! Misty: What do you mean Scott ruined it? It was all Duplica's idea! Jessie: Well, I don't see the blue haired imitator here, do I? Scott: Don't worry about me, Misty. Kelly and the others can handle this. Misty: Okay... be careful. Misty runs off towards the volcano, with Todd, Mikey, and Eevee following her. James tries to run after them, but Scott steps in his way. James can't knock down Scott, who just pushes him back towards Jessie. James: Geese! That guy's much stronger than he looks! Jessie: There's only one way to deal with guys like him. Let's use the legendary birds! Persian: The legendary birds? Good idea! We'll get our revenge, after we failed to kill the scrawny kid and the Ditto girl, this guy will be a welcome substitution. Jessie and James pull out the other two Master Balls, and prepare to throw them. Jessie: Moltres, go! James: Articuno, go! The two Master Balls hit the ground... but they don't open! Jessie: What's going on here? James: Those things are supposed to open! Scott: (laughs) Never trust any piece of technology that you don't know how to use. (to Kelly) Let's give Team Rocket a little shock, Kelly! Kelly charges up and sends a thundershock Team Rocket's way. The trio gets electrocuted, but they finally gain enough confidence to battle. Jessie: Try this one on for size! (throws a Pokéball) Hitmonchan, go! Scott: No sweat! Kelly, slam attack! Jessie: Oh yeah? Hitmonchan, ice punch! Hitmonchan puts his best fist forward and connects with Kelly's cheek, freezing him in place. Scott: Kelly! James: What do you say now, Mr. Pokémon trainer from out of town? Scott: You haven't won yet! (throws another Pokéball) Dragonite, go! While this is all going on, Misty, Todd, Mikey, and Eevee have finally arrived at the Big Riddle Inn, the secret hideout of Blaine's Pokémon Gym. Blaine: So, Misty? What brings you to my neck of the woods at this time of year? Misty: I'm here to compete for a Volcano Badge! Blaine: Really? And who are your new friends? Misty: The one with the camera is Todd, the famous Pokémon photographer. The younger one is Mikey, he's from Stone Town, and he's going to start his own badge journey soon. The Eevee on his shoulder is his. Blaine: Pleased to meet you. I'm pleasantly surprised to have a famous photographer and two future Pokémon League members here. Misty: (blushes) Thanks. Mikey: A Pokémon League member? Yippee! Todd: Well, I guess my reputation precedes me. Blaine: Anyway, I'll let you battle me, Misty... if you can solve my riddle. Todd: A riddle? Mikey: We'll be here forever! Misty: Don't worry, guys! Blaine's riddles have never stumped me before! Blaine: Blue by freeze, yellow by air, and red by flames, catch 'em all and be a bag of flare! Todd: Huh? Mikey: I'm confused. Wait, could you be talking about the three evolutions of Eevee? Blaine: Good guess! It's not the right answer, though. Misty: I know! Blue by freeze refers to the ice bird, Articuno. Yellow by air refers to the air bound Zapdos, whose thunder energy comes from the clouds. Red by flames talks about Moltres, whose bright fiery heart inspires Pokémon League hopefuls everywhere. And if you catch 'em all, you'll flare up and brag to all of your friends! Blaine: My Misty! That riddle solving brain of yours never seems to surprise me. Todd: How do you do it, Misty? Misty: (shrugging her shoulders) Women's intuition, I guess. Blaine: (pressing a secret switch) Let's get to it, Misty. A door opens up, and Blaine starts to walk down a spiraling staircase that leads to the volcano arena. Mikey: That's a volcano down there! Misty: Yeah, Blaine's gym is inside the volcano. Todd: Inside the volcano? No way I'm going down there! Mikey: Me neither. It looks too hot. Eevee: Vee? Misty: Fine, then. You guys stay up here while I get my Volcano Badge! She follows Blaine down the stairs, and the passage closes behind her. Mikey: I hope she'll be okay. Todd: Yeah... me too. Back out on the field, Scott continued to battle Team Rocket's Pokémon. Two Gyarados were now out doing battle, each attempting to bite the other. Scott: Gyarados, charge up for the hyper beam! James: Gyarados, use dragon rage, dragon rage, and dragon rage! James' Gyarados begins to lunge at Scott's Gyarados from different angles, leaving him unable to fully charge the beam. Scott: Gyarados! Jessie: Be careful, James! Persian: Yeah, before you make a deadly mistake! Suddenly, the eyes of Scott's Gyarados lighted up. Scott: Yes! The hyper beam's ready! James: Gyarados, stop that Gyarados now! Scott: Gyarados, hyper beam! The Gyarados roared and fired at James' Gyarados, paralyzing and sending him flying towards Jessie, James, and Persian. Jessie: Oh no! Look out! James: Gyarados, go back, go back! Persian: It's too late to go back! Gyarados rams straight into Team Rocket, and with help from another blast of the hyper beam from Scott's Gyarados, the Rockets go flying off in the air... Jessie, James, Persian, and Gyarados (in Pokémon talk): (simultaneously) Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off again! Back at the volcano, Misty takes a potion out of her satchel as well as the Pokéballs containing Poliwrath and Vaporeon. The two Pokémon come out smiling at her, but still weak from their last battle. Misty: Okay, you guys, I need your help beating Blaine. Vaporeon: Por! Poliwrath: Poli! Misty splits the potion between the two Pokémon. Afterwards, she recalls them both and then walks into the gym. Blaine: Misty, are you ready? Misty: Ready, Blaine! Blaine: You know the deal. Three Pokémon each. (throws his first Pokéball) Ninetails, go! Ninetails: Nine! Misty: (preparing to throw hers) Misty calls... A flash of light comes from Misty's satchel, and out comes Golduck! Golduck: Gol! Misty: (taking her satchel and bonking Golduck on the head with it) Golduck, not you! Blaine: Ninetails, flamethrower! Misty: Golduck, use your confusion attack! Ninetails fires straight at Golduck. The duck refuses to give up, and also releases his attack, confusing the fire fox. Misty: Good work, Golduck! Unfortunately, Golduck has somehow managed to confuse itself as well. Misty: (watching Golduck run around in circles) Golduck, what are you doing? Blaine: Ninetails, use your fire spin! Ninetails, still confused, fires straight into the air, hitting nothing by the walls of the volcano. Misty: Now's your chance, Golduck! Use your fury swipes attack! Golduck uses the fury swipes... on himself! Meanwhile, another ring of fire from Ninetails erupts, but this one doubles back and hits her, knocking her out. Blaine: Ninetails! Misty: Golduck, try the disable attack! Golduck does something very weird... he disables itself, and faints. Blaine: (pulling out Ninetails' Pokéball) Ninetails, return! I can't believe this! Misty: (sighs, then pulls out Golduck's Pokéball) Golduck, return! This is so embarrassing! Blaine: (throwing another Pokéball) Arcanine, go! Misty: (fishing out another Pokéball) Okay, Misty calls... Once again, a flash of light comes out of Misty's satchel. This time, it's Jigglypuff! Jigglypuff: Jigglypuff! Misty: Jigglypuff, oh no! Quick, get back in the Pokéball! Blaine: Arcanine, take down! Arcanine charges and rams into Jigglypuff, nearly sending her off the edge of the platform. Misty: Jigglypuff! Blaine: Arcanine, bite it! Misty: Jigglypuff, quick, use your double slap attack! Jigglypuff tries to slap Arcanine away, but to no avail. The little Pokémon had been forced off the platform and was now barely hanging on for her life. Blaine: Get ready to finish it off, Arcanine! Misty: (in thought) I'm going to regret doing this... (to Jigglypuff) Sing your song, Jigglypuff! Jigglypuff's eyes brightened at the request, and she begins to sing, even though she's still hanging off the edge. Jigglypuff: (singing) Jig-gly-puff, jig-gly-y-y-puff! Misty, Blaine, and Arcanine all fall asleep. Jigglypuff pulls herself back up, and then sees everyone sleeping. She gets mad, puffing up like a giant marshmallow... Jigglypuff: (angry) Puff! Luckily, this isn't the same Jigglypuff from the anime. This one has to resort to actually punching her victims to vent her anger. It starts off with Arcanine, using his body slam and double slap attacks to knock the last of the energy out of him. Blaine and Misty wake up, due to the fact that Jigglypuff hasn't been able to sing at full power yet. They both stare in surprise, as Jigglypuff stands mad, still angered, while Arcanine is battered, bruised, and unable to battle anymore. Misty: Yeah! Great work, Jigglypuff! Jigglypuff: (turns away, still angry) Puff! Misty: Don't tell me you're angry because we fell asleep? Jigglypuff: (nods in agreement) Jiggly! Blaine: How can Arcanine be out? Unbelievable! Blaine recalls Arcanine and prepares to throw out his final Pokéball. Blaine: Well, Misty, you've done surprisingly well. But that's all about to change! Blaine throws his third Pokéball, and out comes Magmar. Blaine: You do remember Magmar, right? Misty: Magmar! (turns to Jigglypuff) Jigglypuff, disable Magmar quickly! Blaine: Magmar, fire punch! Jigglypuff succeeds in disabling one of Magmar's attacks. Unfortunately, it wasn't the fire punch, as Jigglypuff is sent flying towards the edge once again, this time with a burn mark on her right cheek. Jigglypuff tries her best to stay in the fight. Misty: Jigglypuff, use the pound attack! Jigglypuff runs up and tries to hit Magmar, but gets burned in the process. Blaine: Nice try, but Jigglypuff's no match for Magmar! (to Magmar) Smoke screen! Magmar generates a smoke screen to blind Jigglypuff's view of the platform. Misty: Be careful, Jigglypuff! No such luck... Magmar suddenly flies in with his ember attack, burning the last of the energy that Jigglypuff was saving; she faints on the spot. Misty: Oh no! Blaine: Looks like Jigglypuff's out of this match! Misty recalls Jigglypuff and attempts to throw out the right Pokémon this time. Misty: Misty calls... Another flash of light comes from the satchel, this time bringing out a strange choice, Tentacool. Misty: Tentacool! What are you doing here? You're not ready for a gym battle yet! Blaine: Ready? Misty: Hold on, let me choose another Pokémon. Blaine: You can't! Tentacool is your third and final! (to Magmar) Magmar, flamethrower! Magmar fires a large ball of flames at Tentacool. Misty tries to make the best of the situation. Misty: Tentacool, water gun! The water gun dissolves some of the flames, but not all of them, as Tentacool is hit hard. Tentacool goes down, as Blaine smiles, ready to finish the match. Blaine: That Tentacool's not that strong! Keep using your flamethrower! Magmar fires all over the place, as Tentacool does his best to dodge all of the flames. Misty: Try your poison sting attack, Tentacool! Tentacool's attack burns up in the flames on its way to Magmar. One of the flames connects with the water Pokémon. He struggles to stay alive. Misty: (pleading) Please, Tentacool, don't give up! Try and hold him off with your water gun! Tentacool's water gun keeps him safe from any of the flames that land near him, but the water octopus is slowly running out of water. Blaine: Magmar, head in there and finish it with your fire punch! Magmar stops firing the flames and makes a beeline for Tentacool. He tries to hold Magmar back, but the fire type is slowly inching his way closer. Misty watches in fear, trying to think what to do. Misty: (to herself) I don't know how much longer Tentacool can hold out. I shouldn't have sent it out. In fact, I shouldn't have sent any of them out. They all came out by themselves! They were asking for it! Misty then begins to hear to a voice in her mind. It's Lily, her pink haired sister, and the next youngest in the family, only to Misty of course. Lily's Voice: Misty! Misty: Lily? Lily's Voice: Misty, you've, like, got to believe in yourself! Misty: How can I believe in myself if my Pokémon choose when to battle themselves? Lily's Voice: Misty, the Pokémon can feel that you're nervous. They're loyal to you; they believe that they can help you win. Unfortunately, there aren't making the right decisions; they're blindly stepping into battle. You've got to help Tentacool! Relax! You've got to feel that you can win. If you don't, then Tentacool won't gather the strength needed to win the battle. Misty: I've got to believe that Tentacool can do it? Lily's Voice: Right. Misty: If you say so. Just one question, Lily. Lily's Voice: Yes? Misty: Why did you pick now to tell me? Lily's Voice: Because we gave you Tentacool for your birthday and we want to make sure the two of you succeed! Misty: (under her breath) Yeah, you want Tentacool to succeed. Lily's Voice: I heard that! Misty: What? How did you... Lily's Voice: Never mind that! Get that Volcano Badge! Show what the Sensational Sisters of Cerulean City are made of! Misty: Right! You can count on me! Lily disappears, and Misty turns back to the battle, as Magmar inches ever closer to Tentacool. Misty: (in thought) All right, Tentacool. I'm here for you. Gather the power you need to beat Magmar! Misty's Pokéball necklace (the one Todd had gotten her for her birthday) began to glow an aqua blue, and so did Tentacool. It seemed that Tentacool was powering up! The water coming out of Tentacool begins to strengthen and force his way through Magmar. Misty's Pokédex begins to beep wildly. The necklace stops glowing as she pulls the Pokédex out and aims it at Tentacool. Pokédex: Hydro pump, Tentacool's ultimate attack. When at full power, Tentacool will shoot up to twenty gallons of water per minute at its opponent. Misty: Go, Tentacool! Knock out Magmar! Blaine: Magmar! Burn it up with your flamethrower! It was too late, though. The hydro pump turns out to be way too powerful, and Magmar falls to Tentacool. Misty: All right! It's over, and I finally won! Misty runs onto the platform and hugs Tentacool. Misty: I'm so happy my sisters chose you to give to me! Blaine: Good job, Misty! You've earned a Volcano Badge! Misty: Thanks a lot, Blaine! Blaine: You've earned it! A little while later, Misty shows off her Volcano Badge to Scott, Todd, Mikey, and Eevee. Todd: Wow, you really beat Blaine in one try? Mikey: Amazing! Misty: It was a tough battle, but I managed to beat him without too much trouble. Scott: Nice job, Misty! Looks like you're ready for the Pokémon League. Misty: When I get past Viridian City, of course. Mikey: Don't worry, Misty! I know you will. Kelly appears on Scott's shoulder, as the two prepare to wave goodbye. Misty: Leaving us so soon, Scott? Scott: Yeah. I've got to get back to the United States to start training for the new season. Misty: You mean for football? Scott: That's right. Misty: (shakes her head) I'll never understand the difference between your football and our football. Scott and Kelly watch as Misty, Todd, and Mikey walk towards the docks. Narrator: Misty has finally earned the elusive seventh gym badge. Now, only the Earth Badge at the Viridian City gym remains. Can Misty regroup and gather the firepower to defeat the final gym leader at Team Rocket's home base? Stay tuned to find out... To be continued...
