Adventures Series, Episode 20 (Version 1.1), "The Rematch" This chapter isn't called "The Rematch" for nothing. If you've read my fanfics, you'll recognize the character in question. Also, I've got a brand new character to add to the mix. Tell me what you guys think of her, okay? And remember the surprise I had in store for Gary fans? No, he's not in this chapter, but he'll be in "Three Short Stories: Master Ball Edition," coming later this month. Disclaimer: TJ, Sally, and Ricky are from my drawing board. That is all. ************************************************************************ Friday, February 25, Island Route 2, Buzzpar Island Narrator: There are many young trainers who are members of the Pokémon League. One of those trainers is Sally Highsaw, a young thirteen year old trainer who doesn't hesitate to make decisions quickly when it comes to a Pokémon battle... or capture, in this case. Sally stands four feet, eight inches, and has brown hair that hangs down to her shoulders as well as small, brown eyes. She wears a red form-fitting short sleeve shirt, a pair of blue jeans that are a tad too long at the legs, a slightly used pair of sneakers, a silver colored watch on her left wrist, a multi colored bead friendship bracelet, and a belt around her waist that holds six Pokéballs. She carries a green and white backpack and a small black purse. Sally: All right, Weedle, you're mine! She takes one of the Pokéballs of her belt and throws it to the ground. Sally: Nidoqueen, go! Weaken it with your horn drill! Before the Weedle could respond with an attack of his own, the drill connected and weakened the bug to the point of fainting. Sally reached into her backpack to pull out an empty Pokéball. Sally: (throws the Pokéball) Pokéball, go! Weedle transforms into a red beam of energy, and is sucked into the Pokéball. The ball rattles a few times before the familiar click sounds. Sally: (walking over and picking the Pokéball) Any second now... The Pokéball disappears from her hands and teleports to a Pokémon research laboratory. She reaches into her backpack again, this time pulling out two things: a small container of food pellets for Nidoqueen, and her Pokédex, orange colored with a palm tree in the upper left corner. She opens the container and places it in front of Nidoqueen. Sally: Nice work, Nidoqueen! Here's a treat for you. Nidoqueen: Nido! Sally: (opens her Pokédex, and begins to press a few buttons) Pokédex, enter Pokémon entry number thirteen, Weedle. Pokédex: (beeps once, then responds with a female voice) Weedle, a bug and poison Pokémon. These Pokémon are very common in any type of forest, and are among the easiest to evolve to their final stage. Sally: (closes her Pokédex) Well, if I'm right that makes it fifty different types of Pokémon that I've caught. Not bad for a trainer with over three years of experience. Suddenly, something twinkles in the sky, and Sally notices it. She turns to the sky to see a strange being flying. Sally: (bewildered) Is that a Pokémon? It might be, with those purple and white colors. I'd better check out my Pokédex to make sure. She looks down to open her Pokédex, then aims it to the sky, only to find out that the Pokémon is gone. Sally: That must be one fast Pokémon. Or maybe I just imagined it. Her thoughts are interrupted by an explosion nearby. Sally: What was that? Nidoqueen: Nido? Sally: (begins to run off) Stay here, Nidoqueen, while I check it out! She runs towards the explosion, holding a worried look. She hopes that she doesn't catch sight of something unpleasant... ************************************************************************ Adventures Series, Season 1 [Episode 20] "Dreams Do Come True" Chapter Two: "The Rematch" Story written by Freedom Fighter ************************************************************************ A few minutes earlier, about half a mile away, Ash leads Pikachu, TJ, and Brock up the path. Narrator: Our heroes are making their way along Island Route 2, heading deeper into Buzzpar Island. Little does Ash know the challenges that lie just ahead on the road. TJ: How much longer until we get to the next town? I'm starving! Ash: Starving? (his stomach grumbles while a sweatdrop forms above his right eye) Now that you mention it, it is starting to get close to lunchtime. Brock: Guys, leave that to me! Brock stops along the side of the road, and pulls almost anything a cook on the road could need that you could imagine, and begins to fix up a meal. TJ: (whispers to Ash) Hey, Ash! Ash: (whispering back) What's up? TJ: (whispering) Just how good is Brock at cooking? Ash: (whispering) Real good. Don't worry, he cooks the best! And if he poisons you, I can always get him sent off to jail. The two giggle like little schoolgirls at the thought, which grabs Brock's attention. Brock: What are you two laughing about? Ash: Nothing, Brock. TJ: Hey, Ash! Ash: Now what? TJ: Where's Pikachu? Ash has just realized that Pikachu has wandered off. Ash: Pi-ka-chu, where are you? I've always wanted to do that! TJ: You mean sound like a scruffy, food-crazed teenager looking for his similarly talented dog? Ash: Yeah! I saw it in a show. Anyway, we've got to find Pikachu! Not too far away, Pikachu is walking in the woods, unknown that he's no longer with Ash or the others. In fact, Pikachu has sensed something strange. Pikachu: Pika pika? Pikachu! Pikachu spots the object... a Voltorb that is stuck between a grouping of rocks. Pikachu: Pika? Voltorb: Voltorb! Pikachu: Pika pika chu pika pika. Pi pika, pi pikachu! Voltorb: Voltorb! Pikachu runs back out of the woods, and spots Ash and the others. Pikachu: (yelling) Pika! Ash: (turning towards Pikachu) Pikachu! Am I glad to see you! Pikachu: (points to where it came from) Pika pika! TJ: I think Pikachu is trying to say something! Ash: What is it, Pikachu? Pikachu: (motions for Ash to follow) Pika! Ash: You want me to follow you, Pikachu? Pikachu: Pikachu! Ash: (runs off) Okay! TJ: Wait, I'm coming with you! Brock: Don't run off too far, you three! (then begins to think) I'm starting to talk like a mother. In a matter of moments, Ash and TJ catch up and find Pikachu next to a Voltorb. Ash: Say, isn't that a Voltorb? TJ: And it's stuck between those rocks! Pikachu: Pika! Ash: Well, I guess we have to get it out of there, huh? Ash and TJ walk over to Voltorb and lift it out of the rocks. TJ: This thing is heavy! Ash: Don't worry, only a little more! Suddenly, a Pidgeotto comes out of nowhere and sweeps near the Voltorb, which ticks the Pokémon off. It begins to flicker wildly with electricity, which causes Ash and TJ to drop it to avoid being shocked. Ash: What's with this thing? TJ: I think that Pidgeotto might've spooked Voltorb. And it's getting ready to self destruct! Pikachu: Cha! Ash: Quick, make a break for it! It was too late, though, as Voltorb explodes in their faces. The explosion sends smoke billowing throughout the surrounding area. Now, something like this doesn't go without attracting the fourth leg... Brock: (who was tasting his soup when the explosion occurred) What was that? I'd better go check it out. Brock starts running towards the forest to make sure his friends are all right. When he arrives at the scene of the disturbance, he already spots a girl (Sally) there trying to help Ash get up. The Voltorb, which neither Brock nor Sally knew caused the explosion, had already rolled out of sight. Sally: (picking up Ash off the ground) Hey, kid, are you all right? Ash: (slowly waking up, but mistaking Sally for someone else) Hey Misty, did you dye your hair? Sally: Misty? Who's Misty? Ash: (now fully awake) Wha! You're not Misty! Sally: (sarcastically) Well, that's plainly obvious. Ash: Where's Pikachu? He spots Pikachu also getting up slowly nearby, slightly charred, but otherwise okay. TJ: (getting up) I suppose I'm the non-existent person here, right? Brock: Are you guys all right? Ash: We're fine, Brock! We were trying to help a Voltorb when a Pidgeotto scared it, and the Voltorb exploded in self-defense. Brock: (turns to Sally) And you are, miss? Sally: (sticking out her hand) I'm Sally. Brock: (sticking his out, and shaking it with Sally's) My name's Brock. Pleased to meet you, Sally. TJ: (dusting himself off) Hi! I'm TJ. Sally: Nice to meet you. (turns to Ash) And you are? Ash: (stands up in pride) I'm Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town, and I'm going to become the world's greatest Pokémon trainer! Sally: Sure. You and every other trainer that's passed through these parts. (sighs) Well, if you guys are okay, then I'd better head back to my campsite. Brock: Wait, Sally! Why don't you come and eat lunch with us. TJ: Yeah, we'll get a chance to get to know each other better. Ash: And how you managed to get out here so fast. Sally: Well, you three seem to be pretty nice... oh, why not. Besides, it gets lonely out here if you travel all by yourself. Let me go and get my things, and then I'll meet you at your campsite. Brock: Sure thing! Do you need any help? Sally: (walking back towards her campsite) No, I'll be fine! About ten minutes later, the foursome is gathered at a table chowing down to some of Brock's best food, everything from egg rolls to apple dumplings to rice, and everything in between. All of their Pokémon were also eating, including Ash's Pikachu, Brock's Vulpix, TJ's Butterfree, and Sally's Nidoqueen. Sally: Wow, Brock, this food is great! Brock: Thanks! (to thought) Thanks to the guy who said the way to a woman's heart was through her stomach. TJ: I've never tasted food this good before! Ash: That's Brock for you. He not only looks out for the Pokémon but for the trainers as well! Brock: (blushing) Oh, you guys don't have to rub it in. Sally: Brock, how did you learn to cook food this well? Brock: Well, several years ago, my dad left home to go on a Pokémon journey, but he never returned. That was when my mom passed away. I being the oldest out of my brothers and sisters, I had to quit school in order to raise them. I was the father and the mother of the family. I picked up a lot of my housekeeping skills during that time. And I was also left with the responsibility of maintaining the city's Pokémon gym. Sally: If that's true, then why are you out here traveling? Brock: When Ash came into town a year ago to battle for a Boulder Badge, he got some help from an old man who turned out to be my long lost father. I turned all of my duties over to him, maintaining the gym and taking care of the family. I joined Ash, Pikachu, and Misty on the road, and that basically leads up to this point. Sally: (turns to TJ) So when did you come into the picture? TJ: I met Ash and Pikachu last November, Brock wasn't with them. We were both on our way to the Indigo Plateau for the Pokémon League Novice Tournament. Sally: So you two are both members of the Pokémon League? TJ: (sadly) Only Ash is. I didn't make it far enough in the tournament to qualify. Sally: Don't worry about it. I'm sure you'll get your chance soon enough. Ash: So, Sally, are you a Pokémon League member? Sally: Yes, a novice class member. Ash: Novice class? Then what am I? Sally: Any trainer that's been a member of the League for less than a year is automatically dubbed rookie class status. Ash: Rookie? But I'm no Rookie! Sally: Compared to the other trainers in the League you are! Ash: I'll show you I'm no rookie! How 'bout an official Pokémon League match? Sally: I'm afraid you can't do that. Ash: Why not? Sally: Well, if you open your Pokédex there, access the League rulebook, and then type in code 2.23.10A.3, you'll discover what I'm talking about. Ash does so, and begins to read the information off of his Pokédex. Ash: Any rookie with less than six months total experience in the League can only battle League members at the rookie level. Rookies with at least six months can battle both rookie and novice level members. Sally: That's the rule all right. Ash: So I have to wait four months until I can battle you in an official match? Sally: If you want an official match, yes. But you can battle me in a non-League match; that doesn't count on your record. Ash: Okay, then. A non-League match. Sally: If you wish to do so, Ash, then I accept your challenge. Outside Voice: Oh no you don't! I want the pleasure of squashing this maggot! Ash: Maggot? I demand to know who's there! The man steps into plain view and he would be a familiar sight to Ash, Pikachu, and TJ, if they hadn't been brainwashed. It's Ricky Langley from Valencia Island. [1] Ricky: Don't tell me you don't remember me? Ash: I don't remember you. Ricky: Well, since you've forgotten, let me refresh your memory. I am Ricky Langley of Valencia Island, champion of last November's Novice Tournament, and the one who sent you to defeat in the second round! Ash: Doesn't ring a bell. In fact, I really don't remember anything from the Tournament, except for the fact that I'm a League member. Ricky: Well, maybe you didn't deserve to get it. Ash: Yes I did! Ricky: Then prove it! Ash: I will! The two walk towards an empty field to prepare for battle, with Pikachu following Ash. Brock: (to TJ) You don't remember seeing Ash battle that guy? TJ: Not to my knowledge. Sally: Then how did he manage to place in the tournament if he couldn't even remember whom he beat? TJ: I'd like to know the answer to that question. Brock: Well, maybe you or Ash or Pikachu will remember something once this match gets underway. Ricky: Three on three, standard rules, League match, no time limit! Agreed? Ash: Agreed! Let's get this match started! ************************************************************************ Ash: (throws a Pokéball) Squirtle, I choose you! Squirtle: Squirtle squirtle! Ricky: Didn't you learn your lesson last time, kid? (throws a Pokéball) Go Blastoise! Blastoise: Blastoise! Ash and Ricky: (simultaneously) Water gun attack! Blastoise's attack is much stronger, and it easily overwhelms Squirtle, sending Ash's Pokémon back. Ricky: Blastoise, tackle attack! Ash: Squirtle, move out of the way! Squirtle sidesteps to the side and avoids Blastoise, but the giant Pokémon turns around and makes a second sweep, this time connecting and knocking Squirtle out. Ash: (pulls out Squirtle's Pokéball) Squirtle, return! (turns to Pikachu) Pikachu, I choose you! Pikachu: Pika! Ricky: And here comes the little Pikachu again. This will be a cinch. Ash: Well, my Pikachu's no ordinary Pikachu! Ricky: We'll see if you've learned anything. (pulls out Blastoise's Pokéball) Blastoise, return! (throws out another Pokéball) Magmar, go! Magmar: Magmar! Brock: A Magmar! Ash: Oh no! Pikachu: Pika! TJ: What's wrong with a Magmar? Sally: You mean other than the fact that Pikachu's skills pale in comparison to Magmar's? Brock: Blaine, the gym leader on Cinnabar Island, used a Magmar that nearly fried Pikachu! Ash: Don't worry, Pikachu! Just watch Magmar's moves and you'll be fine. Ricky: We'll see about that. Magmar, fire punch! Magmar: Mag. Mar. Ash: Pikachu, try and paralyze it with your Thunder Wave attack! Pikachu uses the Thunder Wave, but it has no effect on Magmar. Ash: No! The fire punch connects, sending Pikachu flying to the grass. But the electric Pokémon refuses to give up. Ash: Pikachu, quick attack! Pikachu runs at a feverish pace towards Magmar, but gets burned by touching Magmar's fiery skin. Pikachu: (jumping up and down, trying to put the fire out) Chaaaaaa! Ash: Pikachu! Ricky: Magmar, finish it with your flame thrower! Pikachu is too tired from putting out the fire on its paws. As a result, Pikachu's too slow to avoid Magmar's attack, and gets fricasseed. Ash: Pikachu! No! Ash runs towards Pikachu and picks up his friend. Ash then remembers the events of his second round battle with Ricky. Ash: (in thought) It started with Squirtle and Blastoise. Blastoise easily defeated Squirtle, so I sent in Bulbasaur. He retaliated by sending out Venusaur and winning. So then I sent in Pikachu, who took out Venusaur. But then he sent out Magmar, and cleaned the floor with Pikachu, winning the battle! I wasn't able to use Charizard because Pikachu was already my third Pokémon, but I didn't make that mistake this time. Ricky: Ready to give up? Ash: Never! (throws out Charizard's Pokéball) Charizard, I choose you! Charizard comes out, then faces his trainer. Ash: I know you beat a Magmar before, but can you beat this one? It's different and a little bit tougher. Can you do it for me, Charizard? Charizard stared blankly at Ash before nodding and stepping towards Magmar. Ash: Charizard, slash! Ricky: Magmar, smoke screen! The smoke screen is activated, but Charizard just flies through it and slashes at Magmar. Magmar takes a hit before batting Charizard away. Ash: Charizard, fire spin! Ricky: Magmar, fire punch! Each Pokémon powered up and released their respective fire attacks. Both attacks connected, but the battle was far from over. Ash: Charizard, flamethrower! Ricky: Magmar, flamethrower! Brock: Watch out! Sally: This match is getting hotter by the minute! The two Pokémon continuously reeled off their flamethrowers, in hopes of catching the other off-guard. Ash: Come on, Charizard! Ricky: Magmar, beat that Charizard! Charizard charged at Magmar, as the two lock hands and try to make the other fall. Ash: Charizard, seismic toss! Charizard picks up Magmar, then flies high into the air. After reaching a certain height, Charizard circles once above our heroes, then winds up and sends Magmar flying back down to Earth at an amazing speed. Ricky: Magmar! Ash: Good work, Charizard! Brock: Magmar's coming down! Sally: Quick, clear the area! TJ: I can't watch! Nidoqueen: Nido! The six of them take cover, as Magmar's collision with the ground begins a small earthquake. They get back on their feet, and walk to the crater where Magmar now lies. Sally: (looking at Magmar) Is it okay? Ricky: It looks like Magmar's out cold. Ash: (begins to jump up and down) Yeah! I won, I won! Ricky: What do you mean you won? I've still got one Pokémon left! Ash: Oh. Brock: Do you think you can still beat Ricky, Ash? Ash: Of course I can. As long as Charizard's on my side! Ricky: (pulls out Magmar's Pokéball) Magmar, return! (throws out another Pokéball) Arcanine, go! Ash: Charizard, let's go! Charizard flew back towards the ground, where Arcanine was waiting. Ash: Charizard, slash! Ricky: Arcanine, take down! Charizard slashes Arcanine away, knocking him back to the ground. Ash: Charizard, ember! Ricky: Arcanine, fire blast! Arcanine's fire blast pushes past Charizard's ember and fries Charizard. Ricky: Now, Arcanine, take down! Arcanine charges and takes down the weakened Charizard, who's been knocked out. Ash: Charizard! Brock: No! TJ: Impossible! Sally: In my entire career, I've never seen a Charizard lose except when it was up against another Charizard. Ricky: Arcanine, return! He pulls out Arcanine's Pokéball, as he returns to his rightful place. Ricky: Looks like you lose again, Ash Ketchum! And a trainer of your caliber will never succeed in the Pokémon League! Sally: Who are you to say whether or not he can succeed? He's got as much of a chance as you do! Ricky: (laughs) Like I'm gonna believe something from a twelve-year old twit in a skirt. Sally: (getting angry) For your information, I'm thirteen, and I am not a twit! In fact, you're a nitwit! Ricky: Is that the best you can come up with? Man, I'd better leave before I catch whatever disease you losers have. Later! Ricky leaves a sad Ash, an angry Sally, a surprised TJ, and a concerned Brock behind. Sally pulls down her eyelid and sticks her tongue out at Ricky's back, then turns around to check on Ash. Sally: Ash, are you okay? Ash: No! Whenever I pick Charizard, I lose! Either Charizard doesn't obey me, or he doesn't win the battle! Brock: That's totally untrue! Remember the time when Charizard beat Blaine's Magmar? [2] Ash: Then how come I wasn't able to beat this Magmar? Sally: It's probably just a stronger Magmar. Ash, you can't let every loss defeat you! TJ: Yeah! You've just gotta get up and keep training! You have to be ready for your next opponent! Ash: I guess. But what about Charizard, Squirtle, and Pikachu? There isn't a Pokémon Center around for miles. Sally: Ash, leave it to me. Watch this! Sally takes out a Pokéball, drops it on her left knee, bumps it over to her left knee, then off the top of her head while reciting the following... Sally: (Pokéball on her left knee) Ready to play, Pokémon? (Pokéball on her left knee) Then let's play! (Pokéball bounces off her head) Chansey, go! Chansey comes out of its Pokéball, looking just like a regular Chansey, only missing the nurse's hat that all the Chansey in Pokémon Centers wear. Brock: Amazing! TJ: How did you learn moves like those? Sally: Going through five seasons of little league soccer, that's how. Now let's see if we can help your Pokémon, Ash. Ash places Pikachu next to Charizard, then calls Squirtle out. Ash: Okay, now what? Sally: Chansey, hard boiled! Chansey: (in its high pitched tone) Chansey! Sally: Chansey, let's heal those Pokémon. Chansey: Chansey chansey! A strange ray of Pokémon magic begins to form around the three fallen Pokémon. After about a minute, the eyes of Pikachu, Charizard, and Squirtle begin to open. Pikachu is the first to fully recover. Ash: Pikachu! Pikachu: Pikachu! Ash runs over to pick up and hug Pikachu, who sentimentally returns the favor. He then notices Charizard and Squirtle getting up. Ash: Are you guys all right? Squirtle: Squirtle squirtle! Charizard: Rrrrroooooaaaaarrrrr! Ash: I'll take that as a yes. (puts Pikachu down, then pulls out two Pokéballs) Okay, guys, return! Charizard and Squirtle return to their Pokéballs. Brock, Sally, and TJ pull out Pokéballs and recall their Pokémon. Sally then picks up her stuff and prepares to leave. Sally: Well, guys, nice to meet you, but this is where I've got to go. Ash: Wait a minute, Sally. (to TJ, Pikachu, and Brock) Guys, huddle up for a second. Sally: Huh? The boys get into a huddle to discuss whether or not to have Sally stay. Ash: So what do you guys think about her? Brock: Well, she likes my cooking. A definite plus. TJ: She's so pretty. You've got my vote. Ash: She could prove useful on the road, especially when we're far away from civilization. Pikachu: Pika pika pi chu chu pika! Ash: Then it's agreed! The gang breaks the huddle and then turns to Sally, who has a puzzled look on her face. Sally: Okay guys, what's up? Is there something wrong with my appearance? Brock: Of course not. TJ: In fact, we were discussing something very important. Sally: And that is? Ash: Would you like to travel with us? Sally: Travel with you guys? Oh, I'd just be extra weight for you guys to drag along. Ash: We don't mind. Pikachu: (runs up and begins to hug Sally's left leg) Pikachu! Pi, pi pika pika! Sally: Well, if you guys are so determined in getting me to come with you, then I guess I can't refuse. Let's go. Ash, TJ, and Brock: (simultaneously) Yes! Pikachu: Pika pika! The fivesome begins to walk down the road, in search of the next town. Narrator: And with some persuasiveness from the team, Sally joins Ash, Brock, TJ, and Pikachu on their journey. But who knows what lies over the next bend... Two hundred miles away, just outside Charger City, a population of ten thousand looks up to the sky and sights Zapdos, the legendary bird of electricity. Oohs and aahs can be heard from the crowd. Up in a helicopter nearby, another soul has seen the bird. Giovanni: That's it! The third legendary bird, Zapdos! Quick, contact Jessie and James on the phone. Tell them to come to Charger City on Buzzpar Island. The search for the third bird is over. TR Member: Yes, sir! Giovanni lets out a huge laugh as Zapdos flies off towards the sun, obviously spooked at the sight of a second powerful Pokémon in the area. Can Zapdos be captured? Only time will tell... To be continued... Author's Notes: [1] Ricky Langley's first appearance was against Ash in the Pokémon League Novice Tournament. You can read about it in Episodes 13 & 14. [2] The Charizard-Magmar match was from the anime episode, "Volcanic Panic." Copyright Date: 1/22/00, Revised: 12/19/01 Revisions from the Original Release Include: - A few more grammatical errors have been corrected. - Ash originally states that he have to wait six months to battle Sally. Of course, since he's already had his Pokémon League badge, it should be only a four month wait, roughly. The statement was corrected. - Sally's character profile, which was here in the original, has been updated and moved to a later episode, for convenience. Next episode... believe it or not, it's almost Misty's birthday! Her family and friends are putting the finishing touches on a surprise party in Stone Town just as she arrives. New friendships are formed, as well as a new love interest. But guess who drops in to disrupt the party? Isn't it obvious by now? Next up is Episode 21, "A Special Surprise."
