Adventures Series, Episode 18 (Version 1.1), "Playing by the Rules" Welcome to the first thrilling chapter of "Dreams Do Come True," a brand new fanfic in which Ash begins his adventures in the Pokémon League. New adventures, friends, foes, and challenges await them ahead on the road! And for those of you who now feel deprived of Brock after leaving the anime last weekend, Brock makes his first full episode debut in this very chapter! Hey, don't look at me! I didn't steal Brock! The writers of the anime wrote their story a long time ago! Now, I'm going to work on satisfying those Gary fans in the upcoming "Three Short Stories: Master Ball Edition." But that's another story for another day... Disclaimer: TJ was created by yours truly. Also, Brock gets a little girl lucky as I debut three new female characters... just don't let him know they're coming. ************************************************************************ Saturday, January 8, Indigo Plateau Narrator: Today, Ash, Brock, TJ, and Pikachu arrive at the Indigo Plateau. Here, Ash will receive his official instructions and the location of his first match in the Pokémon League. Ash: The day has finally arrived, Pikachu! We're competing in the Pokémon League! Pikachu: Pika! Pikachu! Brock: And to think it only took you a year, Ash! The average trainer usually takes at least two years to get into the Pokémon League! TJ: I can train with you for a couple months until I'm eligible to compete again in May. Someone with your experience must be a great trainer! Ash: All right, then. The four of us are heading for the Pokémon League! Next stop, a Pokémon master! ************************************************************************ Adventures Series, Season 1 [Episode 18] "Dreams Do Come True" Chapter One: "Playing by the Rules" Story written by Freedom Fighter ************************************************************************ Ash and company walk over to the check-in station. Two months ago, Ash and TJ were here to compete in the Pokémon League Novice Tournament. Now, they return, Ash to begin his travels in the Pokémon League, and TJ joining him on the ride. At the desk stands a young teenage girl, who Brock is already falling for. Girl: Hello, and welcome to Pokémon League Registration. I'm Jasmine! Brock: (blushing) Hello, Jasmine! I'm Brock! Say, now that we've gotten to know each other, how about a date tonight? Jasmine: (giggles) Sorry, but I've already got a boyfriend. Brock: (begins to cry) No! I've been denied again! Ash: Just ignore him. He has a lot of trouble with girls. Jasmine: And I suppose you don't? Ash: (sweatdrops) Well, not as much as he does. TJ: (to Jasmine) Say, if you didn't already have a boyfriend, then I wouldn't mind being your sweetheart. Jasmine: (a little angry) I already said that I have a boyfriend! Focus those girl detectors of yours on someone else! TJ: Sorry. Ash: Let's just get this over with. Jasmine: (calming down) Okay, then, I just need your Pokédex and your Pokémon League Membership Badge. Ash hands Jasmine his Pokédex and shows her the badge. She glances at it, then sticks the Pokédex in a slot and begins to type away on her computer. Jasmine: Wow, a first timer? Ash: Yep. Jasmine: Well, good luck! Being among the elite one thousand members of the League is no laughing matter. These trainers didn't play around with their lives to get here. Ash: So where's my first match? Jasmine: Hold on a second. The registration process takes a few minutes. Ash: Well, what's going on now? Jasmine: The computer is automatically installing a number of programs onto your Pokédex. Ash: Such as? Jasmine: Well, to start off, the first program is the newly released and updated version of the Pokémon League Rules Guide, designed so you don't have to carry the hard cover version everywhere you go. Ash: That's a relief. Carrying that rulebook is hard work. Jasmine: The second program is a ranking tool, which enables you to rate your performance against other League members from the past who have experienced the same situation. In addition, it gives your current ranking among all members in the Pokémon League. The rankings are updated every Monday morning at eight o'clock. Ash: Wow! I wonder what I'm ranked right now. Jasmine: The third and final program is your Pokémon League progress marker. As long as you are a member of the League, this will keep track of all your matches, and your schedule for upcoming battles. Ash: That's great! Jasmine: (taking the Pokédex out of the slot) That should do it. (hands it to Ash) Your journey begins at the Miners' Archipelago. You'll receive further instructions once you arrive there. Ash: So, how do we get there? Jasmine: There's a boat heading there, but it leaves in fifteen minutes. You'll have to hurry if you're going to make it or you'll have to wait until tonight for the next boat. Ash: Thanks, Jasmine! (to Brock, TJ, and Pikachu) Come on, guys! TJ and Pikachu follow Ash towards the docks. Brock stays around to try and flirt some more with Jasmine. Brock: So, are you sure you can't go on a date with me? Jasmine: (pulls out a mallet) Yes, I'm pretty sure that you can't! Ash pulls Brock away just in time, as Jasmine's mallet just misses Brock's head. Down at the docks, Ash, Brock, TJ, and Pikachu try to locate their ship. TJ: So which ship goes to the Miners' Archipelago? Ash: I think Jasmine said it was the Queen. Brock: (still dreaming over Jasmine) Are you sure Jasmine wasn't the queen? TJ: Yeesh, Brock, get over it already! She's taken! Ash: Look guys, there it is! Sure enough, a boat with the word "Queen" in white letters on the port side stood right in front of the trio and Pikachu. Ash: Let's go! They must be getting ready to leave. The four of them walk to the gangplank, hand their tickets to the attendant, and then climb up to the ship. After a few more passengers get onboard, the ship leaves for its destination: Miners' Archipelago. Three hours later, the Queen arrives at the Miners' Archipelago. It pulls into port at Seaside City on the biggest island, Buzzpar. Ash, Brock, TJ, and Pikachu look from the main deck in awe at the spectacular sight of the city. Brock: It's so big! TJ: And so beautiful! Ash: It reminds of Celadon City! Pikachu: (in a sad mood) Chu. Ash: (looks at Pikachu) What's wrong, Pikachu? Brock: I think Pikachu's just hungry. Let's go to the Pokémon Center so we can get it something to eat. TJ: The only reason you want to go to the Pokémon Center is to see Nurse Joy! Ash: Besides, you've got Pokémon food with you, right? Brock: Yeah, but you guys don't understand! (gets on his knees and begins to plead) One day I'm gonna marry one of those Nurse Joys, but until I do, I want to enjoy the experience of seeing them all! TJ: Can't you just use pictures as a substitute? Brock: (grabbing TJ's shirt) What do you mean use pictures? TJ: Easy, Brock! Just let me down! (Brock puts TJ down) All I'm saying is you should just buy a camera and take pictures of them! Brock: Well, let's go to a store and buy a camera! Ash: You guys go. I've got to get Pikachu fed before I go and check in for my first match. TJ: I'm going with you, Ash. (whispers to him) Personally, I don't want to be embarrassed if Brock starts yelling at girls in bikinis on the beach. Ash: Sure, but you don't have to worry about Brock. Besides, what sort of person would be in a bikini in the middle of January? The three step off the ship and onto the dock, Pikachu cradled in Ash's arms, when they spot a fat man stripping down to nothing but a small black swimming short which could be mistaken as a table napkin. Ash and Brock turn away in disgust, but TJ nearly throws up at the sight of the man. A few minutes later, Ash and TJ arrive at the Pokémon Center, while Brock runs off to find a camera store. Ash: Wow! Look at this place! TJ: I've never seen a Pokémon Center look this great before. Pikachu: Pikachu! Ash: I wonder where Nurse Joy is. TJ: Look, here she comes! Joy: (walking up to them) Hello! Welcome to the Seaside City Pokémon Center! We specialize in rejuvenating your Pokémon back to full health! Ash: Yes, could you please recharge my Pokémon? Ash takes out his five Pokéballs and hands them to Nurse Joy. TJ: (taking out his Pokéballs) Mine too! Joy: Certainly, boys! Chansey! Chansey appears and takes TJ's Pokéballs to the Pokémon Rejuvenation Machine in the back. It then returns and takes Ash's Pokéballs and does the same thing. Joy: Let me guess. It's the first time you two have been here, right? TJ: Yes! My friend here is a member of the Pokémon League! Joy: (looking at Ash in interest) Really? Ash: Yeah! This is my first time competing. Joy: Well, congratulations! You'll discover that most of the League members are pretty friendly. Ash: Thanks, but I'm kind of nervous about what to expect. Joy: Don't be. It's really not that big of a deal. Tell you what. Let's get your Pikachu there and the rest of your Pokémon recharged, and then we'll have a match. Ash: A match? All right! TJ: A match against a Nurse Joy? I bet all she has are some Chansey. Joy: And to make it interesting, two on two, and (pointing to TJ) I'll battle with you first! TJ: Hah! I'd like to see you try and beat me! Joy: We'll see, young one. (to Pikachu) Let's get you to the Rejuvenator with the others, Pikachu. Pikachu: (holding its stomach) Cha! Joy: Well, it looks like Pikachu's hungry too! Don't worry, I know a Pokémon breeder who owns a Pokémon restaurant down the street. They'll be right as rain in no time! Joy picks up Pikachu and walks to the back room. At that moment, in downtown Seaside City, Brock searches the streets frantically and finally spots his goal in a nearby window. Brock: Ah! This shop has just what I'm looking for! Brock enters the shop and begins to look around. Inside, among all of the Pokémon merchandise and supplies, was a bunch of cameras. Brock picks up one after another, looking for the right one. Brock: Let's see. (picking one up) Too expensive. (looking at another) Too small. (glancing at one in the corner) Too weirdly shaped. (spots a fourth) Too weird. There's not a single camera here that seems to be perfect. Just as if someone was listening, a gleam of light begins to shine. Brock looks towards it. Brock: (shielding his eyes from the light) Could it be? The camera of my dreams? Brock slows lowers his arm as the glare begins to disappear, looking on in awe, expecting to see a camera where the glare is. Finally, with the glare gone, he gets a full view of the object. It happens to be... a Porygon key chain. Brock facefaults in disgust to the floor. Brock: (getting back up) Man, it's just a stupid key chain. (looks up to the ceiling, begins to yell) Why is the world playing games with my love life? Back at the Pokémon Center, Ash and TJ get up as a young lady enters. She's wearing a blue shirt, cut off to show her belly button, and a pair of blue jeans. With short black hair and a white hair band to keep it in place, as well as light brown skin that gave a healthy glow to her face, and beautiful black eyes, she looked as young as an innocent twelve year old. And both Ash and TJ almost mistake her for one. Ash: Hello there! TJ: (beginning to flirt) And what's your name, sweetie? Lady: The name's Tammy. Tammy Lopez. The number one breeder within a two hundred mile radius! Ash: Wow! Two hundred miles! TJ: Say, Tammy, do you think we could get together and talk about Pokémon? Tammy: (placing a finger just below her lips) I don't know. Just how old are you, anyway, kid? TJ: The name's TJ. And I'm eleven years old. Tammy: Eleven? Well, TJ, let me tell you a deep, deep secret of mine. Tammy mutters the last few words in a sexy tone, which causes TJ to go crazy. She then kneels down, due to the fact that she's nearly two feet taller than him, and begins to whisper into his ear. Tammy: (whispering) The truth is... I'm twenty-six. TJ: (gets up, and begins to stutter) T-t-t-t-t-twenty-six? Nurse Joy enters the lobby from the patient's ward, with a weak Oddish cradled in her arms, and spots Tammy as she returns to a standing position. Joy: Oh, I see you two have met my good friend, Tammy. Ash: She's a friend of yours, Nurse Joy? Tammy: (walking up next to Joy) Yeah! Joy and I are old classmates from high school. Joy: Tammy here was voted most popular in our graduating class! TJ: (still stuttering) Most p-p-p-p-popular? Tammy: That's nothing! Joy here was class valedictorian! Ash: (puzzled) What's a valedictorian? Joy: (blushing) Tammy tried to rub in the fact that I was a nerd. (to Ash) A valedictorian is the person who finishes at the top of the graduating class. Ash: Say, is that an Oddish in your arms? Joy: (looks at the Oddish) Yes, this Oddish is sick. Its trainer brought it in earlier today claiming that it had a fever. Luckily, I've managed to lower its temperature down slightly. Tammy: That's good. You've got to be careful with sick Pokémon. You never know what they can do if they get loose. Joy: That's true. Tammy: So where are my hungry Pokémon patients? Joy: Just a second, Tammy. Chansey! Chansey comes walking out of the back room with a tray of five Pokéballs in hand. Pikachu walks out next, followed by another Chansey with a second tray, this one with all six slots holding a Pokéball. Ash: (picking up Pikachu) Hey, Pikachu! Still hungry? Pikachu: (nods in agreement) Pika pika! Joy: You can take them to the cafeteria, Tammy. And feel free to use anything you need in the kitchen. Tammy: Thanks, Joy! (pulls out a Pokéball) Now it's time to present my little helper! She spins around three times and then throws the Pokéball to the ground. Tammy: Go, Cubone! Cubone: Cubone, bone bone! Tammy: Let's go, Cubone! We've got some mouths to feed! Cubone: Bone! Tammy and Cubone run to the cafeteria. Ash grabs his Pokéballs from the tray, attaches them to his belt, and runs after them, Pikachu following. This leaves TJ, Nurse Joy, and the two Chansey in the lobby. TJ: That Tammy sure is something special, Nurse Joy. Joy: Yeah. I've never seen a Pokémon breeder as talented as her. TJ: (getting angry) That's not what I meant! Joy: Well, excuse me, but I think you need to be focused on more important matters. TJ: (raising an eyebrow) Such as? Joy: How you're going to beat me in battle in half an hour? I'd say that qualifies as a much more important task. TJ: Don't worry, I'll be ready! Joy: (laughs, as she heads back towards the patient's ward) I suggest you talk to Tammy about how to raise the levels of your Pokémon. Trust me, you'll need it against me. TJ watches as Joy walks off, then turns around, and reaches for his Pokéballs. One falls onto the ground, which he doesn't spot. He starts to run towards the cafeteria, and trips over the loose Pokéball, sending him flying into air and landing with a thud on the ground. The two Chansey try to hold back snickers as they retreat to the back room. TJ gets up, dusts himself off, picks up that sixth Pokéball, places it with the rest of his Pokémon, then walks off, making sure not to trip over anything else. Back downtown, Brock has finally managed to find a camera. He walks up to the counter to pay for it. A lady stands there, with her back turned, currently placing supplies on the shelves. Brock: Hello, I'd like to purchase this camera please. She turns around, and Brock examines her figure. She was blond haired and tall, wearing a green dress that stopped just above the knees. Pale white skin, green eyes, and a figure that could make both Nurse Joy and Officer Jenny look ordinary, this lady nearly made Brock's eyes fall out of their sockets. He finally calms down and stands upright, while the young girl stares at her, clueless over Brock's wild reaction to her. Girl: Well, I see someone is happy to see me for some reason. Brock: I'm just so happy that I'm finally getting my own camera! My older brother never lets me use his at all, so I'm just so happy that I've got my own! The girl raises one eyebrow in puzzlement, having some sort of feeling that she knew Brock was lying. She shrugs the feeling off, and resumes showing her happy salesmanship manners. Girl: I'm sure. By the way, my name is Peddler Judy. Poké-Mart specialist and manager for the Miners' Archipelago branch. She sticks out her hand in a gesture of friendship, and Brock in return sticks his out. The two shake hands as Brock introduces himself. Brock: I'm Brock. Pokémon breeder-in-training from Pewter City! Judy: Nice to meet you, Brock. You know, I have a friend who lives in Pewter named Polly. Have you met her before? Brock: I wish had met her before. Judy: (rolling her eyes) Anyway. (examines the camera, then turns to Brock) How much money do you have? Brock: (reaches into his pocket and pulls out some money) Thirty-seven dollars and eleven cents. Judy: And this camera costs thirty-five dollars. Tell you what. I've got a camera in the back that's much better than this one and it costs five dollars less! At least you can have one meal to eat on your way back to Pewter. Brock: Oh, I'm not going back to Pewter yet. I'm here with some friends of mine. Judy: Vacation? Well, you came up here at the wrong time. There aren't going to be any girls walking on the beach at this time of the year. Brock: Don't worry, I'll manage. Judy: Sure you will. Let me get that camera for you. Judy goes to the side of the counter, puts on an orange apron, and then steps to the back room. Brock watches in silence, now love struck over her. ************************************************************************ Half an hour later, back at the Pokémon Center, Nurse Joy can be seen leading Ash, Pikachu, TJ, Tammy, and Cubone to an unused portion of the building. They turn a corner and walk straight into a dead end. Tammy: Joy, why did you bring us to this empty part of the Pokémon Center? TJ: And why straight into a dead end? Ash: (looking at Joy's dress) And why is there a stain right there near your chest? Pikachu: Pikachu! Chu chu pika pika chu pika cha? Joy: If you five would stop asking dumb questions... Cubone: Cubone? Joy: (sighs) You would see something that not many people get to see here at this Pokémon Center. Joy presses in a spot in the wall, and a panel opens up, revealing a numbered keypad. Joy punches in a four-digit code, which only she knows, and then steps back, as the panel closes and a door next to it opens up. Joy: (gesturing the others inside) Well, come on, this door isn't going to stay open all day! The group steps in, and then looks on in amazement, as it turns out that the area is a special battle arena that is in top condition, as if it was never used before. Ash: What is this place? Joy: This is a specialized battle arena that cannot be damaged in anyway. The walls are made of material that absorbs all attacks, preventing the arena from ever being damaged. Tammy: Joy, why didn't you tell me you had a place like this? Joy: If I told, it wouldn't be a secret anymore, would it? TJ: But why show us? Joy: (turns around to face TJ) Because this is the perfect place for a Pokémon battle. Joy walks over to one of the walls and presses it, opening up another panel. Behind this one is a single computer monitor, but it doesn't have a keyboard. Joy: (talking to the computer) Computer, spectator stands! (to the others) I suggest you guys take about three steps to your right. The group does so as a giant door opens up underneath where they were standing, and out comes a set of steel bleachers. Joy: Now, computer, trainer podiums! Two podiums rise out of the ground on opposite ends of the arena. Joy reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a small pink Pokédex with a red cross on the left corner. Joy: (turning to TJ and Ash) I hope you boys brought your Pokédexes with you. You can't battle in this arena without it. Ash and TJ pull out their Pokédexes, Ash's is basic red, of course, while TJ's is basic green. Joy walks towards one of the podiums, sticks her Pokédex into a slot, then takes four Pokéballs out from her pocket, and inserts them into the slots on the podium. She then looks up at TJ. Joy: Well, are you ready? TJ: Yeah! Just watch me work! TJ walks over to the other side, sticks his Pokédex into a slot, then takes his six Pokéballs and inserts them into the slots. Suddenly, a female voice rings over the arena. Computer: This is a non-Pokémon League match between Nurse Joy of Seaside City and TJ Smith of Viridian City. Trainers will use two Pokémon each, and there is no time limit. Trainers must follow all League rules or they will be disqualified from the match. Let the battle begin! Trainers, please select your first Pokémon. Joy: (yelling to TJ) Well, TJ, if your still willing to battle, press the number on your keypad on which Pokémon you want to use. TJ: In that case, I choose Butterfree! Joy: And against your Butterfree I choose Venomoth! The two flying Pokémon come out, and the battle begins! TJ: Butterfree, stun spore! Joy: Venomoth, leech life! Both attacks connect, as Venomoth becomes paralyzed, while Butterfree becomes affected by the leech life attack. TJ: Looks like your Venomoth is frozen is in place! Joy: (pulling something out of her apron pocket) If there's something that I've learned while being a Pokémon trainer, it's always to carry around a Paralyze Heal! Joy throws it at Venomoth. The container bursts open and the solution gets all over Venomoth, reviving her! TJ: No fair! Joy: According to the rules, a trainer is allowed to use one item on a Pokémon during a match. TJ: You think you know everything because you're a nurse! Joy: Well, I didn't spend six years in college for nothing! Meanwhile, Ash, Tammy, Pikachu, and Cubone have sat down on the bleachers and are watching the match. Ash: Wow, they're really going at it! Tammy: You'd think that they like each other. Pikachu: Pika? Cubone: Cubone bone bone! Ash: Those two together? I doubt it. Tammy: Yeah. I think Joy would be better off with a tall, dark stranger. Ash gave Tammy a look of puzzlement, while the battle continues. TJ: (smirks) Let's see you escape this one, Joy! Butterfree, confusion attack! Joy: Venomoth, watch out! Venomoth dodges the confusion attack, then charges up for another attack. Joy: Not this time, TJ! Venomoth, psybeam! The psybeam hits Butterfree straight on, knocking her out. Computer: Butterfree has been defeated. TJ Smith, please call your next Pokémon. TJ: Butterfree, return! I choose Flareon! Joy: I can defeat your Flareon just as easily! Venomoth, tackle it! TJ: Oh yeah? Flareon, leer! The leer blinds Venomoth just long enough for Flareon to dodge out of the way. TJ: Flareon, quick attack! Flareon quickly jumps back in, hits Venomoth a few times, and then pulls away. Joy: Hang in there, Venomoth! Wait! TJ: What? Joy: Flareon can't attack if it's asleep! Venomoth, sleep powder! Venomoth begins releasing the sleep powder over Flareon's head. TJ: Let's take care of two birds with one stone. Flareon, fire spin! The fire spin not only dissolves the powder, but it also knocks Venomoth out of the sky. TJ: Now, while it's on the ground, tackle it, Flareon! Flareon tackles Venomoth and knocks her out. Computer: Venomoth has been defeated. Nurse Joy, please select another Pokémon. Joy: Let's go, Charizard! Ash: Nurse Joy has a Charizard? TJ: No problem! Flareon has taken down a Charizard before. Use your flamethrower, Flareon! Joy: Charizard, let's show them a real flamethrower! The two giant flames collide halfway, and begin to push against each other. But soon enough, Charizard's flame is much stronger, and it overwhelms Flareon's, then takes the fire Pokémon down. TJ: No! This calls for drastic measures! He pulls an object out of his pocket. Tammy: (looking on) That looks like a TM! Ash: A TM? A Technical Machine? TJ: Flareon, learn TM #38! Joy: TM #38? Isn't that Fire Blast? TJ: You better believe it, Nurse Joy! You're in trouble now! Joy: No problem at all! Charizard, slash! TJ: Flareon, fire blast Charizard! Flareon fires the fire blast attack straight at Charizard, but it flies right through it. TJ: Impossible! Charizard slashes at Flareon powerfully, knocking it out. Computer: The match is over. The winner is Nurse Joy and her Charizard. TJ: I can't believe it! I lost again! Joy: And that is why you aren't a member of the Pokémon League! You just couldn't take the competition. Tammy: Well, you're up, kid. Do you think you can beat Joy? Ash: The name's Ash. And don't worry about me, I'll beat her! Tammy: That's what you're friend said, and look what happened. Ash: Nurse Joy won't beat me! Tammy: We'll see! Back at the Poké-Mart... Judy: (coming from the back with a camera in hand) Sorry it took me so long, Brock. It took forever to find it, especially with a Slowpoke for an assistant. A Slowpoke slowly sneaks its way from the back to the counter. Slowpoke: Slow... Judy looked at her watch and started counting to herself silently. Then... Slowpoke: ...Poke. Judy: See? Brock: Don't worry about it, Judy. Thirty dollars, right? Judy: (scanning the camera's bar code) Yep, thirty dollars. Brock hands her the money, then takes the camera and his receipt. He waves goodbye to Judy as he walks out. Brock: Thanks, Judy! Judy: (smiles as Brock leaves) Come back and visit anytime! Brock begins to walk towards the Pokémon Center, camera in hand. Brock: Wow, Judy seems like a nice girl. But now, it's time to start my collection of Nurse Joy pictures! Speaking of Nurse Joy, let's head back to the Pokémon Center. There, Ash is now standing in TJ's place, ready to battle, while TJ sits dejected beside Tammy and Cubone. Pikachu is beside Ash in the podium. Joy: (looking at Ash's profile, then looking at Ash) Hey, why didn't you tell me you were Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town? Ash: I thought all the other Joys would've told you I was coming here. Joy: No, they didn't. Believe it or not, I'm your first Pokémon League opponent! Ash: Really! A Pokémon League match! Joy: Yep. The only difference is that I've got ten months experience under my apron! Ash: All right, then! Now I know I've got to do my best! Joy: Good luck, Ash, and may the best trainer win! Ash: Thanks! Computer: This is a Pokémon League match between Nurse Joy of Seaside City and Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town. Trainers will use two Pokémon each, and there is no time limit. Trainers must follow all League rules or they will be disqualified from the match. Let the battle begin! Trainers, please select your first Pokémon. Joy: Victreebel, go! Ash: A grass Pokémon! Bulbasaur, I choose you! Joy: Victreebel, wrap! Ash: Bulbasaur, vine whip! Victreebel attempts to wrap up Bulbasaur, but is bounced back by Bulbasaur's vine whip. Joy and Ash: (simultaneously) The attacks canceled each other out! Joy: Victreebel, razor leaf! Ash: Bulbasaur, leech seed! Bulbasaur is slightly faster on the draw, and the leech seed stops Victreebel from performing the razor leaf attack. But then Victreebel breaks free, and sends the razor leaves flying, and Bulbasaur as well. Ash: Bulbasaur! Bulbasaur lands on its back, but quickly recovers. Ash: Hang in there, Bulbasaur! Charge up for the solar beam! Joy: (beginning to panic) Victreebel, use your acid attack to blind Bulbasaur! For that brief moment, Joy completely lost her wits during the match, not knowing that the acid attack would not be fast enough to counter the solar beam. Bulbasaur: (expressing that the beam is fully charged) Bulba! Ash: All right! Bulbasaur, solar beam! Joy: (still panicked) Hurry up, Victreebel, use the acid! Tammy: (watching from the sidelines in amazement) Wow, I've never seen Joy looked this panicked in my whole life! Victreebel also started to panic, since Joy was, and was unable to perform the attack, as Bulbasaur fires and hits Victreebel directly, knocking it out. Computer: Victreebel has been defeated. Nurse Joy, please select another Pokémon. Joy: (falling to her knees) What just happened? Ash: (yelling) Nurse Joy! Are you all right? Joy: (getting up, then yelling back) I'm fine. Just a little stunned, that's all. Let's get back to business. Magneton, go! Magneton: (appearing on the field) Magneton! Ash: (pulling out his Pokédex) What's that? Pokédex: Magneton, an electric type Pokémon. It is the evolved form of Magnemite. These Pokémon cannot only perform electric attacks, but can also perform attacks using sound waves to paralyze its opponent. Ash: Bulbasaur, let's give Magneton a warm welcome! Use your razor leaf attack! Joy: Magneton, use the sonic boom attack! The razor leaves begin to tear away at Magneton, but at the same time, the sonic boom has confused Bulbasaur. Joy: Magneton, fight it off! Use your thundershock! Ash: Bulbasaur, vine whip! Unfortunately, Bulbasaur is so confused that she is not only hit by Magneton's thundershock, but she also hits herself with its vine whip, knocking her out. Ash: Bulbasaur! Computer: Bulbasaur has been defeated. Ash Ketchum, please select another Pokémon. Pikachu: (pleading for Ash to choose it) Pika pika! Ash: (not paying attention) Squirtle, I choose you! Squirtle: Squirtle! TJ: (from the sidelines) Ash must be crazy to put in a water Pokémon against an electric type! Tammy: (from the sidelines) Unless that Squirtle of his is pretty strong. Cubone: (from the sidelines) Cubone bone! Joy: Magneton, thunder wave! Ash: Squirtle, withdraw! Squirtle pulls his head, arms, and legs inside his shell just in time, as the thunder wave hits the shell, but has no effect. Ash: Good work! Now, tackle it! Squirtle: Squirt? Squirtle, squirtle squirtle! Narrator: For some strange reason, I'm going to translate that line. "What? No way, you've gotta be kidding!" Thank you. Ash: Come on Squirtle! Joy: Magneton, supersonic! The supersonic attack hits Squirtle, but fails to confuse the turtle. Squirtle then retaliates with the long awaited tackle attack, knocking both Pokémon back. Ash: Squirtle, skull bash! Joy: Magneton, screech! Magneton's attack reaches Squirtle in mid-flight, causing the turtle to miss, but Squirtle tries again and hits Magneton from the back. Again both Pokémon go flying, and are showing signs of weakness. Ash: Squirtle, bubble! Joy: Bubble? Squirtle releases a spray of bubbles, temporarily blocking Magneton's point of view. Ash: Okay, Squirtle, water gun followed by one more skull bash! Joy: Magneton, use thunder shock! Magneton tried to hit Squirtle, but it couldn't see the turtle at all. Squirtle's water gun suddenly hits, only to daze the Pokémon, then Squirtle catches Magneton off guard and rams its skull right into Magneton's center. For a third time, the two Pokémon fall away from each other. Only this time, Magneton does not get back up. Computer: The match is over. The winner is Ash Ketchum and his Squirtle. Ash: (overjoyed) Yeah, I did it! I won my first Pokémon League match! Joy: Congratulations, Ash! You won fair and square! TJ: (grumbling from the sidelines) I wish you'd let me beat you fair and square. Tammy elbows TJ in the stomach, as a sign to stop the funny remarks. A few minutes later, the group stands outside the Pokémon Center, Ash and TJ preparing to leave the city. Ash: Thanks for all of your hospitality! Tammy: You're welcome, Ash.
