Adventures Series, Episode 15 (Version 1.1), “The Evolution” Okay, Misty’s back to where she started... on the road alone. For those of you who like to see evolutions, this chapter will be a treat. Try and guess how many will evolve? Well, if you’re done trying to guess, think of listening to “Everything Changes” to put yourself in the right mood for this episode... Well... almost empty... Jigglypuff: (singing) Jig-gly-puff, jigg-ly-puff! Jig-gly-puff, jigg-ly! Suddenly, a Pokéball comes flying in out of nowhere. It hits the Jigglypuff, capturing it. A young red-haired girl runs up the path to examine her catch. You all know who it is... Misty: Finally! I’ve captured the Jigglypuff that I’ve always wanted! The Pokéball is still rocking and it finally breaks open. Out comes Jigglypuff. Jigglypuff: (puffs up, angry) Puff! Misty: Huh? Jigglypuff charges at Misty, slaps her not once, not twice, but thrice, and then it takes off running. Misty: Ooh, I’ll get you Jigglypuff! She gives chase after the pink powder puff. She throws another Pokéball, but this time a Pokémon is already in it. It lands about three hundred feet in front of Jigglypuff, and out pops Psyduck. Psyduck: Psy-yi-yi? Misty: Stop Jigglypuff, Psyduck! Psyduck holds its head, and for some reason, runs straight at Jigglypuff! The two Pokémon collide head on, and both fall to the ground. Misty throws another empty Pokéball at Jigglypuff. Misty: Pokéball, go! Once again, the Pokéball snares Jigglypuff, and it begins to rock. This time, though, the light on the center goes out and the Pokéball stops rocking. Misty: Now, at long last, I finally captured Jigglypuff! She then looks over at the unconscious Psyduck, then shakes her head back and forth. Misty: Psyduck, can’t you at least stay awake to see me celebrate. (sighs) Return, Psyduck. (sighs again) I wonder when you’ll finally evolve... She continues along the path, unaware that that very day is closer than she thinks... ************************************************************************ Adventures Series, Episode 15 “Misty’s Travels to the Pokémon League,” Chapter 6, “The Evolution” Story Written by Freedom Fighter ************************************************************************ Wednesday, December 2nd, Celadon City Outskirts Narrator: Two weeks have passed since Misty captured Jigglypuff and she has finally made it to Celadon City after traveling for nearly a month. Misty: It’s finally great to be back in Celadon City. Hmm, I also forgot how busy this place gets. Sure enough, the streets were filled with people, either in business suits or in regular clothes. Misty pushes through the busy crowd. Misty: I just had to arrive during lunch hour, didn’t I? Now, where is Erika’s perfume shop? She looks around and around but she can’t find it. What she did find was... Misty: The Pokémon Center! I guess this would be a good time to recharge all of my Pokémon. She walks in, and a Nurse Joy is at the desk (Were you expecting someone else?). But first she walks over to the transfer machine. She opens her Pokédex and brings up a menu of her current Pokémon. Available Pokémon: Staryu, Starmie, Psyduck, Goldeen, Vaporeon, ??? (egg) Currently in Storage: Poliwhirl, Scyther, Jigglypuff, Horsea Misty: Let’s see. I’ll exchange Starmie and Goldeen for Poliwhirl and Scyther. She places Starmie and Goldeen’s Pokéballs on the conveyor belt, and in a flash of light, they are replaced by Poliwhirl and Scyther. She then went to the desk. Misty: Hi Nurse Joy! Joy: Hello Misty! The usual? Misty: Yeah, I need my Pokémon recharged. Oh, and do you know where Erika’s perfume shop is? Joy: Yep, they moved to the building next to the gym. They didn’t feel like going across town to go between the two places. Misty: Thanks. Joy: It should only be a few minutes. Misty decided to take a seat and rest. Just as she was about to take a short nap, the doors to the Pokémon Center open and in steps Erika. Erika: Misty! Misty: (waking up) Erika? Erika: Misty, what took you so long to get here from Saffron? Misty: Well, you try walking through that mountain range without any transportation or a map! Erika: So I guess you need a nice comfortable bed to sleep on. Misty: And maybe something decent to eat. Erika: Sure, why not. In fact, why not stay over for the holidays! Misty: You don’t mind? Erika: No. Besides, after this week all of the girls are going back home to visit their families, and I need someone to keep me company. Misty: Sure! I could use a break from this long journey. Just let me get my... Joy: Misty, your Pokémon are all ready to go! Misty took her five Pokémon and put them in her satchel with the Pokémon egg. She and Erika then headed off for the gym. Once there, Erika showed Misty to the living quarters. Erika: Misty, you can stay here in the guest chambers. Misty: Wow, this is some guest chamber you have. Misty looks around the giant room. For those of you trying to draw a mental picture, think about the size of a master bedroom in a middle-income size three bedroom house. Erika: Thanks! Misty: If the guest chambers are this big, I wonder how big your room is, Erika. Erika: (tries to laugh it off) Yeah, drop off your stuff and then maybe we can go and get something to eat. A little later, Erika and Misty are eating a few burgers at the local fast food place. Misty: So, what was the “message” you wanted to tell me about? Erika: (looks around to make sure no one else is listening) I discovered this about a month and a half ago. The con artists are Team Rocket indeed. Misty: I thought so. Erika: It seems that it’s just part of their ploy for a much larger plan. Misty: Which is? Erika: To become the undisputed rulers of the world. Misty: But what does sending young trainers out and stealing their Pokémon have to do with that? Erika: Misty, they’re not just stealing Pokémon... they’re intending to get rid of anyone who gets in their way! Misty: Team Rocket? But why? Erika: They’re after a group of kids... kids who may possess the power of being the greatest in their particular field of Pokémon. Misty: So who are these kids? Do I know any of them? Erika: Believe it or not, one of them is sitting right here at this table. Misty: You mean you, Erika? Erika: No, silly, you! Misty: (stunned) Me? Erika: Obviously, you are one of the five. Misty: But why me? Erika: I don’t know. All I know is that I received this anonymous letter which mentioned five kids, and it mentioned that the first kid has a good head on her shoulders. I thought that meant that the person was one who was headstrong and able to think through tough situations, and you are the only person I know that fits that description. Misty: You mean that I have some sort of strange power? Erika: No. But there’s something about the quality of your soul that makes you one of the five chosen ones. Personally, I think it’s a bunch of baloney. Misty: I agree with you there, Erika. But would Team Rocket kill innocent trainers to get to these “select five?” Erika: In my opinion, they might even kill one of the “select” if push comes to shove. Misty: We’ve gotta find a way to stop Team Rocket! If these special kids do exist, we need to find them before Team Rocket does. Erika: But there’s no way of knowing if someone is one of the five. We’re just in the dark about the subject as Team Rocket is. Misty: Maybe some research will help. Let’s go back to your gym and see if we can find some information on the Internet. The two return to the gym, but... Misty: No luck. There’s no way to find out about Team Rocket or about these five kids that isn’t already encoded. I wish I was smart enough to be a hacker. Erika: Well, maybe whoever knows the inside track on it all wants those who are interested to find out for themselves. Misty: Erika, you sound like one of those science fiction geeks. Erika: It so happens that one of my best friends from college is a sci-fi geek, so don’t dare dig any deeper on the subject. Misty: Okay, okay. But we might as well hit the sack. There’s nothing more we can do for now. Let’s just hope that these rumors aren’t true. The two head off for their respective rooms. Meanwhile, just outside of the city, Jessie, James, and Meowth have set up their camp for the night. Jessie pulls out a special carrying case with three grooves in it. Each one is named for one of the legendary birds. The slots for Articuno and Moltres have a Master Ball in each of them, but the slot for Zapdos is still empty. James: Articuno, that was a chilling tale. Meowth: Moltres, that really heated things up. Jessie: But the shocking news is that we still don’t have Zapdos. James: Well, Jessie, I believe Celadon City is next up on the trail. Jessie: Celadon City? Meowth: No way am I going back there! Not with that Gloom at the gym! James: Don’t worry, Meowth. This time, the boss hooked us up with all the right gear. Jessie: Who says we can’t take a Gloom while looking for a Zapdos? Jessie, James, and Meowth: (simultaneously) We’ll sleep on it, and come morning we invade Celadon City! The next morning, true to their words, the three Rockets head straight for the Celadon City gym. At the gym, Erika is in the middle of a gym battle, while Misty looks around the place. She spots some Christmas decorations on some of the trees and waves hello to some of Erika’s employees, who are in the process of putting them up all over the gym. Bored, she decides to head for the battle arena, where a young boy comes out crying. Misty knew that he had lost the match. He saw Erika inside, giving Gloom a healing potion. Erika: Here you go, Gloom. Good going. Gloom: Gloom gloom! Misty: Good morning, Erika. What’s going on? Erika: (sighs) Another trainer who doesn’t have enough skill yet to beat me. I seem to be getting a lot of those types of people lately. Not that I mind. Misty: Hey, I’ve got an idea. Why don’t I battle you? Erika: Why would you want to battle me? Misty: It would help work up some experience points for our Pokémon. Erika: Why not? Three on three, standard Pokémon League rules. Misty: Okay then. Erika: Wait! Let’s make this interesting. If I win, you cook dinner every night until Christmas. Misty: And what if I win? Erika: Hmm, oh, I know! If you win, then I’ll give you the Rainbow Badge. She shows Misty one of her Rainbow Badges. Misty: A Rainbow Badge? What would I do with a Rainbow Badge? I told you that I was done with my badge journey already! Erika: Well, you’re half way there already, Misty. Might as well go all the way. Who knows, you could be competing in the league by summertime. Misty: Me? In the Pokémon League? Misty begins to imagine herself in the Pokémon League facing off against Ash. Misty: Psyduck, go! Ash: Pikachu, I choose you! Misty: Psyduck, fury swipes! The fury swipes completely tear Pikachu apart. Pikachu is on the ground, exhausted and unconscious. Ash bends over to see if his companion is alright, while Misty begins to scream and shout. Misty: I beat Ash! I’m the world’s greatest Pokémon trainer! Misty suddenly feels a tap on her shoulder. Erika: Misty? Misty, stop daydreaming! Misty: (returning to the present) Oh, sorry. I’m ready. Erika: So, the Rainbow Badge, right? Misty: Yep. I’m ready. Erika: Well, let’s start with Tangela! Misty: And I’ll choose Poliwhirl! Erika: Ready Misty? Misty: Ready when you are, Erika! Erika: Tangela, bind! Misty: Poliwhirl, um, water gun! Poliwhirl’s water gun hits Tangela, but the little plant manages to shake it off. Misty: Water doesn’t seem to be too effective here. Erika: Tangela, stun spore! Tangela begins to shake as stun spore begins to fly towards Poliwhirl, stopping him in his tracks. Misty: Come on, Poliwhirl, shake it off! Erika: Tangela, slam! Tangela picks up Poliwhirl and slams him, bringing Poliwhirl’s attention back to the real world. Misty: Now Poliwhirl, use body slam! Suddenly, smoke begins to form in the room. The smoke clears, and there stands Jessie, James, and Meowth. Erika: It’s you! The guys who almost burnt my gym down almost a year ago! Misty: Team Rocket! I was wondering when you’d show up. Jessie: Be quiet, brat! James: We’re here for the Pokémon, so hand them over. Meowth: And you won’t get any trouble from us. Erika: We’ll never surrender out Pokémon, you gym wreckers! Misty: Yeah! Go bother someone else! Jessie: Well, we’ll see who’s laughing when this battle’s over! Erika and Misty: (simultaneously) On behalf of all Pokémon trainers everywhere, we will defeat you! Jessie: Well, take this, trainer twerps! She throws a Pokéball to the ground, and out comes Hitmonchan! ************************************************************************ Hitmonchan materializes in front of Misty and Erika, poised for a fight. Misty: I’ll take care of Jessie’s Hitmonchan. Jessie: You can’t! Misty: And why not? James: Because we haven’t done our motto yet! Misty: (angry) Why didn’t you do it when you came in? Jessie: Because we forgot, so now, without further ado, prepare for trouble! James: Ready to roll, so let’s make it double! Jessie: To protect the world from devastation! James: To unite all peoples within our nation! Jessie: To denounce the evils of truth and love! James: To extend our reach to the stars above! Jessie: Jessie! James: James! Misty: (jumping in) Misty! Erika: (also jumping in) Erika! Jessie: Hey! James: Don’t cut in on our motto! Misty: We’re Pokémon trainers who look beautiful in the night! Erika: But when the going gets rough, we always put up a good fight! Gloom: (coming out of its Pokéball) Gloom gloom! Meowth: Meowth meowth... hey, that actually sounded pretty good! Jessie: (smacks Meowth with her fan) Just whose side are you on anyway, Meowth? James: Yeah! No one makes a parody of the Team Rocket motto unless we’re doing the parody! (throws out a Pokéball) Weezing, go! Erika: Parasect, take care of Hitmonchan! Gloom, get Meowth! Misty: Misty calls Vaporeon! Erika: Parasect and Gloom, stun spore! Misty: Vaporeon, tackle! Jessie: Hitmonchan, comet punch! James: Weezing, smoke screen! Meowth: Meowth, fury swipes! Team Rocket takes the early advantage, as Hitmonchan and Meowth connect before Parasect and Gloom can release the stun spore, and Vaporeon is unable to make a clear tackle at Weezing. Erika: Parasect, leech life! Gloom, poison powder! Misty: Vaporeon, aurora beam! Jessie: Hitmonchan, fire punch! James: Weezing, sludge attack! Meowth: Meowth, pay day! Hitmonchan manages to land the fire punch on Parasect, but not before Parasect’s leech life begins to slowly drain away Hitmonchan’s power. Vaporeon’s aurora beam manages to freeze not only Weezing but all the sludge it was spewing as well. Gloom’s poison powder reaches Meowth, as the cat begins to weaken. Meowth is unable to perform pay day. Meowth then shakes off the powder, but is still weak. James: Jessie, something’s wrong with Meowth! Jessie: So, we’ve got a Gloom to steal! Begin playing “Everything Changes” in the background, as Meowth begins to glow weirdly. Meowth: What’s happening? Misty: Meowth’s evolving! Jessie: Meowth, evolving? Meowth: Stop this evolution! Your heart’s beating around the clock Time tickin’ away it doesn’t stop... Everyone watches in awe as Meowth tries to fight off the urge to evolve to the next level. Evolution is takin’ place The world is spinnin’ and changin’ everyday... Meowth evolves into a Persian. The cat looks at himself, and begins to cry... Persian: (crying) I can’t believe I evolved into a Persian! The one Pokémon I hate the most! It can’t even speak in the human language anymore! Jessie: I hate to break it to you, Persian... James: But you are talking like us! Persian: (stops crying) I am? Wow, I can still talk despite evolving! I can remember everything that’s happened in my life as a Meowth! Misty: Well, I just remembered something too. Jessie: And what’s that? Misty: I forgot that Erika and I were in the middle of a gym match, which you three aren’t going to mess up this time! James: We can mess up whatever we like! Weezing, go get them! Jessie: Hitmonchan, finish those Pokémon off! Misty: Oh, no you don’t! Vaporeon, use aurora beam on Team Rocket! Vaporeon aims and freezes the Rockets in place, but not before a blue stone drops unnoticeably to the floor. Misty: Good work, Vaporeon! Return! Erika: Well, now we can pick up where we left off. Come here and rest, Gloom. Gloom: Gloom! Erika: Ready to go at it again? Misty: Ready! All right, Poliwhirl! Poliwhirl? Poliwhirl has wandered over to the stone, and touches it. Misty: Poliwhirl! That’s a water evolution stone! Erika: Where did Team Rocket get one of those from? Misty: They stole them, what else? Everything changes, changes Things are changin’ constantly Everything changes, changes It’s evolutionary Poliwhirl evolves into Poliwrath. Misty pulls out her blue Pokédex and aims it at Poliwrath. Pokédex: Poliwrath, the evolved form of Poliwhirl. It’s the only one of Poliwag’s evolution forms that can serve as a fighting type as well as a water type. Misty: Well, I feel sorry that you evolved against your own will, Poliwrath, but are you still willing to fight for me? Poliwrath gave a yes, and so the battle continues on. Erika: Ready or not, Misty, use bind, Tangela! Misty: Poliwrath, hypnosis! Poliwrath’s hypnosis attack renders Tangela unable to fight, since it is now asleep. Erika: Nice move, Misty! Tangela, return! Misty: Thanks, Erika! Erika: Now I choose Weepinbell! Misty: All right, Poliwrath, let’s try your double slap attack! Erika: Weepinbell, razor leaf! The razor leaf attack connects several times, leaving Poliwrath struggling to get up. Misty: Come on, Poliwrath! Erika: Weepinbell, vine whip! The vine whip does it in for Poliwrath, as he faints. Misty: Poliwrath, return! Misty calls Scyther! Scyther: Scyther! Erika: I thought you only trained water Pokémon, Misty! Misty: Of course, but when it came to winning on my badge journey, I couldn’t totally depend on water Pokémon. Now Scyther, slash! Erika: Weepinbell, acid attack! Weepinbell fires the acid at Scyther, but misses, and gets slashed by Scyther in the process. Misty: Scyther, double team! Erika: Big mistake, Misty. Weepinbell, use vine whip on all of the Scyther! Weepinbell does so and after the two clones are dealt with, Scyther goes down hard, and out. Misty: Scyther! I knew I should’ve warmed him up with some non-League matches first. Erika: Is Scyther still relatively new? Misty: Yeah, I caught it at Porta Vista about six weeks ago. Looks like he still needs some practice. Erika: Don’t worry about it, Misty. Who are you choosing for your third Pokémon? Misty: Well, Erika, Misty calls... Misty was looking to send out Staryu, but then Psyduck comes out instead. Psyduck: Psyduck? Misty: Psyduck? You dimwit duck! (sighs) Well, maybe since you’ve battled a lot lately, maybe you’ve improved, so give it a shot. Erika: Weepinbell, slam! Weepinbell slams Psyduck into the ground so hard that Psyduck’s headache is as intense as it can ever be. Psyduck holds his head and screams loudly enough to break the ice holding Team Rocket. Psyduck then begins to glow... Everything changes, changes Changin’ all the time Playin’ with your mind Modified or rearranged Misty: Psyduck evolved into Golduck! Yep, the little yellow duck had changed into a blue colored duck that looked even weirder. Misty: Well, Golduck, let’s see what you can do. Disable attack! Golduck uses his psychic mind to disable Weepinbell’s major attacks. Erika: Weepinbell, vine whip! Weepinbell can’t seem to use her weapons. Misty: Golduck, fury swipes! The fury swipes take Weepinbell out of the match. Erika: Weepinbell, return! Alright, Gloom, let’s show them what we got. Gloom: Gloom gloom gloom! Erika: Gloom, petal dance! Misty: Golduck, use scratch! Gloom’s petals begin to tear Golduck apart. Golduck shakes it off and tries to mount an offensive. You take a chance, you throw the dice You risk it all, it’s just a part of life You hold on tight, to what you know You can’t hold back, you gotta’ let it go... Erika: Gloom, sleep powder! Misty: Golduck, confusion! Jessie: How about a little confusion, Team Rocket style! Persian: Persian! Yeah! James: Leaf stone, go! The leaf stone lands just in front of Gloom. Erika, Misty, and Persian: (simultaneously) A leaf stone? Jessie: You idiot! Don’t you know that a leaf stone can be used to evolve a Gloom into a Vileplume! Sure enough, Gloom had walked over and touched the leaf stone, and she begins to evolve. Every little step that you embrace One road ends, another begins and takes you to a better place. Gloom evolves into Vileplume. Erika: Gloom, I mean, Vileplume! Are you okay? Vileplume: Vileplume! Misty: Um, hold on a second, Erika. (throws a Pokéball at the Team Rocket) Vaporeon, hydro pump! Persian: Hydro pump? Vaporeon fires and Team Rocket is picked up by a giant current of water, as they flow out of the gym and down the street. Jessie: My hair! It’s ruined! Those two will pay for this! James: Forget about them! We still haven’t found out where Zapdos is! Persian: Did I mention that I hate being a Persian? Jessie, James, and Persian: (simultaneously) Looks like Team Rocket’s splashing off again! Back inside the gym... Misty: (taking a Pokéball out) Golduck, return! Now, where were we? Erika: Vileplume! Are you ready to finish the battle? Vileplume: Vileplume! Misty: Vaporeon! Let’s go! Use your aurora beam! Erika: Vileplume! Petal dance! The two Pokémon use their strongest attacks on each other. Both of them are hit hard. Unfortunately, Vileplume used a lot of energy during her evolution. As a result, Vileplume fails to get back up, while Vaporeon is still standing. Erika: (pulling out a Pokéball) Vileplume, return! (to Misty) Well, I guess that’s the end of the match. Misty: Okay then, Erika. I guess you owe me a Rainbow Badge, huh? Erika: (giggles) Even after all of that, you still have enough energy to remember that? (smiles) Okay, here you go. Erika reaches into her pocket and pulls out a Rainbow Badge. She hands it to Misty. Misty: (holding it up in the air) Yeah! I’ve got a Rainbow Badge! Erika: (laughs) You sure do. (wipes some sweat off of her forehead) Whew! I think it’s time to sit down and relax. It’s been a long day, especially with Team Rocket here. The two walk off the screen to check up on the other girls in the gym. Narrator: As another day comes to a close, there are now four Pokémon evolutions in the book. We bid farewell to Celadon City, even though Misty’s staying throughout the holidays. Hopefully, the holidays will be joyful for Misty, Erika, and the rest of the gang at the Celadon City gym. Originally, the battle was canceled because I believed that Vileplume did not know a whole lot of moves. Gloomboy takes full credit for making me fully aware of this. In the next episode... it’s New Year’s Eve in Celadon City and everyone’s dropping by for a party! Ash, Brock, Misty, her sisters, Erika, Professor Oak, Mrs. Ketchum, and practically the whole city will be at the gym! Believe it or not, there’s love in the air! Who’s the lucky couple? Find out in Episode 16, “Celebration.” It’s a party you’ll never forget.
